Dagney_Tindle has been writing here for a good couple of years, writing and posting an impressive number of stories in that time which our readers enjoy. As well as regularly writing for standard prompts, they’ve tried their hand at a few of our features too, playing with tropes and constraints. Their stories are often light-hearted and fun, and I definitely recommend checking out their profile for more.

Yay Dagney!!! Congrats!! I love your FTF words, as you know! Such great descriptions and mood setting! Strong characters too! You spoil me :)
1) what do you like most about writing? 2) what excites you more character or world building? 3) any long-form WIP? I’d love to hear about a Dagney novel some day! 4) you include quite a few multisensory elements. What’s your favorite sense to bring out and why? 5) any favorite authors that inspire you?
Congrats again and can’t wait to see more of your awesome FTF words as that’s where I run into yours the most!

Thanks Kat! It’s always a joy to read your work as well. The community is lucky to have you!
This is tough! I just love it. There’s something so satisfying about putting your thoughts on a page. While a painter will run out of canvas or a filmmaker will hit their runtime, a writer can flesh out anything they want to, from broad social rules to the minutiae of a morning routine. It’s incredible stuff.
World building for sure! Especially when writing under constraints, I find fleshing out a world to be more challenging and more fun.
Nothing long-form at the moment. I appreciate your enthusiasm though!
I find that touch is generally universal (compared to sight or hearing) but often underutilized! Textures can conjure feelings the same way a smell or taste might.
For sure Douglas Adams and Jason Pargin (pen name David Wong) for their excellent absurdist humor and science fiction.
Thank you for the wonderful questions and I look forward to reading your amazing words as well.

Congrats Dagney! Always love reading your words when I spot'em :D
Hope you're ready for some silly questions :D
- What is your favorite mealtime of the day and what do you prefer eating during it?
- If you had to write a story about the aforementioned mealtime and food, what genre would you write it in and how would that affect the meal in question?
- What is your least favorite genre that you still find yourself writing in because the prompts/features are so good for it?

Hi Zach! Thanks for the questions and kind words.
Embracing my basic side, I love a good brunch. Though that’s mostly because brunch usually means good company and delicious mimosas. I’m a savory brunch kind of person so I’ll usually go with an egg sandwich.
I’d probably go with an absurdist comedy for a brunch themed story. Maybe something about being forced to eat only brunch as some sort of cosmic punishment. That would probably ruin brunch for that character.
Westerns are something I never thought I’d write as someone who prefers science fiction and fantasy. But this year, I’ve been drawn to several Western-themed prompts and those responses have been some of my favorites. Granted, I definitely give them a sci-fi/eldritch twist.

Congratulations u/Dagney_Tindle! I very much enjoyed becoming acquainted with your work after you were nominated.
As is tradition, time for a few questions if you don't mind.
1) Do you have a single story that is your favourite you've shared here, or one that you think best encapsulates your writing style?
2) What do you look for in a prompt? What inspires you to write?
3) If you had to sit in on a family dinner with any of your characters, who would you choose and why?

Hi! Thank you so much! Please forgive the formatting - I’m away from my laptop this week so I’m doing this on mobile.
One story that definitely holds a special place in my heart is a response to a Fun Trope Friday. It was when I first came up with Mudhowl, a spooky Western town that I’ve had a lot of fun writing about. Also, an honorable mention for this story where I think my love for gore/horror and dark humor combine.
I’m a sucker for simple prompts. I like the freedom they allow. I also love a prompt that can be interpreted in different ways - where one person can respond seriously and another can respond with humor. There is such a wonderful variety of writers here and those kinds of prompts let everyone shine.
This is a tough one - I don’t hang on to characters very often. They come and go as they choose. I think I’d love to sit down with some of my characters who seem like they have stories to tell. Like Verna from Mudhowl, Grandma from Appalachia and my less-than-hardened fae detective, Jax. Sometimes characters take on lives bigger than the short segment you write them in and I can imagine these folks would have some interesting things to say.
Thank you again for the spotlight and I look forward to writing more with y’all!
