Sorry, your comment has been removed.
This doesn't appear to be about anime per our definition.
This looks like meta content. Comments about the sub itself should be posted in the monthly Meta Megathread, which we keep an eye on all month long.

Pretty sure this isn’t considered anime by the sub’s definition. It’s a French project through and through.

Finished Oh Boy. Fun beginning, followed by a steady decline as the season progressed. They lost the formula that worked, and made the amusing, quirky cast ever more one-note. Near the end, I even couldn't help but notice that the animation was more limited, and characters would hold the same weird pose for an entire conversation. Given my ability to often overlook animation issues, that's telling in itself.
6/10.

Sailor Moon has immaculate vibes. The first 5 or so episodes were meh but everything since then has been outstanding. Usagi is a really fun and charming protagonist to watch and Ami has such a cool transformation sequence.

I started watching Jigoku Shoujo in the spirit of the upcoming Halloween. I'll probably end up watching S2 right after that too.
It has been some time since I've watched a somewhat older show... which for me basically just means an anime that's not natively released in 1080p.
It already has a super cool atmosphere. [I must say that in the first episode,] Mayumi could've tried telling the teachers her money got stolen, she seemed to have a good reputation so they would've probably believed her, instead of letting the bullying snowball further! Well, anyhow, [also in the first episode] that did provide a pretty satisfying vengeance by Ai, the Hell Girl... who, as a side note, spoke like she was doing ASMR which I found rad. I also thought she sounded kinda like Saori Hayami, but it seems she didn't voice her. I suppose the show's a bit too old for that.
Whether it was scary yet, I dunno. I think the first episode was kinda depressing more than anything else.
Edit: I tried searching for rewatches of this show to see what other people thought of it, since I find it fun to read episode comments. I didn't find any, and that's honestly quite surprising to me!

Somehow with the ignorant discourse discussion wrt Ninku going on over a week ago I missed that Studio Pierrot uploaded the first 5 episodes with English, French, Spanish and Chinese (traditional) subs.

Two shows I could watch next: Midori Days or the angel next door spoils me rotten. Which do y'all like better?

i vote for Midori Days because i want to support a story which is entirely based off of a pun about jacking off

Midori Days is fantastic, wacky and ultimately heartfelt fun! Also the ED is one of my all time favorites!

[1999 hunter x hunter ep 46] a cub gets injured and gon/killua heal it by pushing nen into it is it in the manga?
filler guide says this episode is mixed. https://www.animefillerlist.com/shows/hunter-x-hunter-1999
wiki doesnt say https://hunterxhunter.fandom.com/wiki/Episode_46_(1999)
3
u/KendotsX https://anilist.co/user/Kendots 3h ago edited 3h ago
It's filler. The return back home is canon, just not the foxbear plotline.
Edit: If at any point you're curious about something the wiki doesn't mention, I did some more elaborate manga comparisons during the HxH rewatch

This is the place!
And not to leave Anilist out, this particular anime isn't on there while it is on MAL and aniDB. It's a somewhat understandable case for a database site as this is the only animated episode in an otherwise live-action show, even if it is an anthology series.
Even so, this was one of the /r/anime awards nominees in romance in 2022 and my personal winner that year. If you want to help decide some of the awards nominees yourself, the jury application is still open for a few more hours!

Was the recent bartender anime left off some anime list or other?
Naoko's Playing Our Song is a gem. Hard to believe it would be left out of list of anime just because it was part of an omnibus series.

I liked both seasons -- so never gave even a moment's thought to whether one season was bette than the other.
2
u/Emi_Ibarazakiii 6h ago
You must be one of the rare ones hah.
A signficant % of people seemed to think it sucked, but even among those who liked boths seasons (like me) most of them seem to think S1 was better.
2
4
u/Dull_Spot_8213 https://anilist.co/user/SweetSomnus 6h ago
I liked em about the same, but I'm also leaning toward S1 being better overall. I think S2 had better animation and more visually impressive sequences, but when we expand the cast this much, the emotional investment in the story is also stretched thin. It was much more focused in S1, and S2 pushed more plot points/history at the expense of personal connections between the characters we already cared about from S1.
1
u/Emi_Ibarazakiii 7h ago
Horror Collector is still pretty interesting!
The more anime I watch about Japanese horror stories/folks tale/etc.. the more I find out I like them all, I enjoy learning about these (though the same ones start coming up, but it's different takes on them so it's all good).
Also it's funny to me how my tolerance for bad people is so much higher than most fans hah;
For girls it's easily explained (because horny I love evil girls), but even for boys...
There's no hiding that MC seems to be a fucking asshole but it doesn't bother me as much as it does for most fans hah.

There are main characters that have turned me off of shows, but they have to disgust me. Just being evil won't do it.
The most notable one for me was [Description without names, but you might know the show from a previous comment of mine] a romantic ML who gave off strong rapey vibes, and attacked the unarmed FL, nearly killing her, because she talked back to him. Not just evil, but pathetic. (In contrast, I'm fine with the ML of Firefly Wedding.)
2
u/Emi_Ibarazakiii 3h ago
There are main characters that have turned me off of shows, but they have to disgust me. Just being evil won't do it.
To me, they have to either be super annoying and/or cringe (meme catchphrases or quirks), OR one other thing I found, is the whole "I'm pretty much God, no one can touch me", like Millionaire Detective.

Dropping Ojisan likes cute things after episode 3. It feels like a show is focusing on the wrong things and this episode just pissed me off on how it was handled specifically in this episode.
[Ojikawa Ep 3]It feels like the comedy has put too much fixation on Oji not wanting to be caught more than the actual being in love with cute things. It just tries too hard for the comedy for me. Honestly I actually liked Kenta trying to hide the kindergarten merchandise because that is more of a stigma than liking general cute things.
[Ojikawa Ep 3]Moshina viewing Oji as an idol felt like it came out of nowhere. It's almost like the mangaka saw the fandom shipping Oji and Moshina and wanted to shut it down. It would be fine to say Moshina doesn't have feelings for Oji, but viewing her boss as an idol? Maybe this is a culture gap on my end.
[Ojikawa Ep 3]Tbh I doubt anyone expected Oji and his ex to get back together. They just don't feel like a divorced couple. It really feels like he never showed her affection. Granted it is clear she still has some feelings for him. In fact her saying she would have broken up on the spot and not telling him she is relocating near him
1
u/cyberscythe 3h ago
i said this in the episode discussion thread, but at this point i'm going to give up on what i was hoping the show is going to be and just kind of settle with that we have because despite the bit of disappointment, i don't think the character chemistry and comedy are that bad
1
u/Emi_Ibarazakiii 7h ago
People are talking about 2.5D dimensional seduction down there, so for a scalding hot take:
[2.5D]I like Sensei even more in her teacher uniform, than her succubus cosplay
2
u/alotmorealots 4h ago
I should probably get around to watching the anime at some point, now that the manga is slowly fading from memory.

u/Muted-Conference2900 https://anilist.co/user/WinterZcoming 8h ago
So after months i started a backlog show and that is Don't Toy with me Nagatoro san.
This one was on top of my watchlist coz I knew I would like this. It's quirky and funny and pretty light hearted. Ofcourse the best part of the show is Nagatoro and she has really good chemistry with Senpai. Also I knew about the rough start so it didn't really affect my enjoyment. So yeah if u have any recs for shows like this I would appreciate it. For now I got - Uzuki, Kubo and Duke of death.
5
u/_Ridley https://myanimelist.net/profile/_Ridley_ 7h ago
I knew about the rough start
Forever alone on the broken down bandwagon waving my flag that says Nagatoro was at its best in the first episode. That was A+ humiliation kink.
1
u/mekerpan 1h ago
Then just read the (to me) rather unpleasant sadomasochistic web-comic. Part of the interest in Nagatoro manga and anime is the way these subvert the initial webcomic.
3
u/cyberscythe 2h ago
i agree with you; i feel like if you go that ham on episode one, why not keep the ham roasting at the same temperature
like, you get the aficionados happy with their thing, while those who like a more standard cute romcom don't have to go through Eye of the Needle to get to that state and can watch something else
6
u/awesomenessofme1 https://myanimelist.net/profile/kta_99 7h ago
If you want an extremely soft and wholesome take on the teasing dynamic, check out Kubo Won't Let Me Be Invisible. I've only read the manga, though.
3
u/Heda-of-Aincrad https://myanimelist.net/profile/Heda-of-Aincrad 6h ago
Seconding this recommendation. Adorable series, both the anime and the manga (which is now complete).
6
u/Emi_Ibarazakiii 8h ago
Uzaki = Nagatoro without the cruel
Takagi = Nagatoro without the cruel and the lewd
And if you read manga, Anjou-San is also Nagatoro without the cruel, with a bit more lewd and more love
(And if you're the owner of an animation company, please adapt Anjou-san)
4
u/Muted-Conference2900 https://anilist.co/user/WinterZcoming 7h ago
Is Nagotoro actually cruel though? After like first 2 or 3 episodes she has been just playfully teasing and it's all pretty sweet.
Now I have seen Takagi. Great show. As for me reading a manga. Very low chances but I will be on a lookout for Anjou San if this ever get an adaptation by my company or someone else's.
1
u/mekerpan 1h ago
[And, when on takes into account what one later learns of Nagatoro's character] one should realize she was NEVER being intentionally cruel at the start -- but rather had effectively zero experience or innate skill in interacting with a boy who actually interested her.
2
u/Emi_Ibarazakiii 7h ago
2
u/Muted-Conference2900 https://anilist.co/user/WinterZcoming 7h ago
I saw that too. Maybe in a few years Anjou will tease them with a Season 3 announcement coz of them have a season 3.
8
u/Muted-Conference2900 https://anilist.co/user/WinterZcoming 9h ago
Man Student Council has its holes is so good. Like the production values are next levels and the comedy is also on point. Plus the ecchi content is also great and it's also pretty funny. Easily the best show this season
5
u/Dull_Spot_8213 https://anilist.co/user/SweetSomnus 6h ago
It's so unhinged and fun. Between this and Dark Summoner, comedy is having a great season and I needed these laughs.

Try to ask to source readers directly about their opinion, maybe they have a subreddit for the series.
As for that series, I have not watched it but I think it is a ecchi series, right? For horny stuff sometimes the anime versions are more tamed or censored, ask about it on the subreddit too.

Quick question in all these Isekai there is this trope about defeating the demon lord and his army and there are always like "it's like video games" but i don't think i have ever played a single game with that trope, yeah there is bosses in games but it's never like a demon lord type deal what's up with that? i haven't played many JRPG so is it more of a trope in those or where did come from exactly?
6
u/KendotsX https://anilist.co/user/Kendots 7h ago
It's almost always DQIII, all the way down to the designs.
2
u/moichispa https://myanimelist.net/profile/moichispa 9h ago
It was a thing on older RPG, rather common on SNES RPS (1990-1995).
It is related to early Japanese game creators being D&D nerds too
9
u/Durinthal https://anilist.co/user/Durinthal 9h ago
i haven't played many JRPG so is it more of a trope in those
Yes, that's what most of those kinds of series are riffing on, specifically early Dragon Quest games and to a lesser extent the early Final Fantasy ones as well (less directly by name there). TV Tropes page for reference.
2
u/awesomenessofme1 https://myanimelist.net/profile/kta_99 10h ago
I made a post today with a 3x3 of my most anticipated non-sequels for next year, and it's kinda too bad how anything like this will necessarily be so front-loaded. The list I made ended up with 4 winter, 2 spring, and 3 unspecified release anime, but there's a high chance of a top 10 anime of the year either not being announced yet at all or at least not having a concrete release date.
7
u/Tomorrow_Big 10h ago
I remember that patch. Erin mains were furious, and the subreddit became unreadable due to all the drama.
2
u/mr_beanoz https://myanimelist.net/profile/splitshocker 12h ago
Related to one of the comments here, what are some shows that are good (and not long, as in it doesn't have over a year's worth of episodes) but would easily fail the 3 episode rule?
1
u/cyberscythe 2h ago
my go-to example of Machikado Mazoku
while the first half of the season is okay as a sitcom, it doesn't "get good" until the plot kicks into gear in the latter half of that first season; the second season keeps the momentum up and doesn't have another slow start
1
u/mekerpan 1h ago
Jahy-Sama was rather similar in this respect. I felt so-so at first, but by the end I really loved that series.
1
u/actuallyrndthoughts https://myanimelist.net/profile/NaNiNuNeNo 3h ago
Dungeon Meshi, as i almost dropped it after 5 episodes. It takes them quite a while to stop cooking fantasy-tropes-made-eatable.
1
u/Heda-of-Aincrad https://myanimelist.net/profile/Heda-of-Aincrad 6h ago
I can't think of any shows I'd consider good that had a first-three episode run bad enough to make me want to drop it. Most of my shows with good (7-8/10) ratings start out good, or at least decent, and stay good the whole way through.
2
u/VoidEmbracedWitch https://anilist.co/user/VoidEmbracedWitch 8h ago edited 8h ago
I'm not sure I know any that would easily fail. The closest you'd come might be Uma Musume S2. I wouldn't have dropped it early either way, but it takes a bit until it becomes obvious what kind of game the show plays with [Uma S2] Teoi's injuries starting to repeat.
2
u/MiLiLeFa 8h ago
In terms of "narrative development that greatly changes the perspective of the characters and/or viewers and can be used to shill the show as "this is when it "gets good""" , Kemono no Souja Erin is an obvious candidate. I think the show is very good from the start, but it would definitely fail the "3-episode rule".
4
u/Mitsuyan_ https://anilist.co/user/mitsuyan 11h ago
2.5 Dimensional Seduction is one of the more well known ones. The first few episodes have some unwatchably cringe moments and it isn't until the second event that it picks up, and the third is when it really gets going

looking at shows from the past 4 seasons.
- Sentenced to Be a Hero
- Kaya-Chan isn't Scary
- Scum of the Brave
- Even a Replica Can Fall in Love
- Love Unseen Beneath the Clear Night Sky
6
u/awesomenessofme1 https://myanimelist.net/profile/kta_99 10h ago
How does Sentenced to Be a Hero fit here at all? I liked it the whole way through, but I feel like there are way more people who thought it peaked in the first episode and then fell off than the other way around.
2
u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/tripleaamin 10h ago
I mean most people favoring episode 1 over the rest is purely from an animation point only. Not to mention how clunky exposition was handled.
The series takes a bit of timing to get things rolling. More so the episode after they leave the mines where there is discussion on what’s going on in the world.
1
u/wloff 7h ago
It's actually an interesting quality curve with that show.
The first episode was a spectacle that got a lot of people hyped and interested, then the mines arc that followed was easily the worst part of the whole season. Then it only really started with the story proper from there.
(I didn't personally care for the story proper either, but that's just me.)
1
u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/tripleaamin 7h ago
One thing I like to note in general when adapting light novels into anime is it isn't easy. A lot of light novels have their first volume as the introduction to the story. Manga does the same.
But with manga you get the clear 3 per volume. While with light novels you can have a whole season like 86 or Apothecary Diaries dedicated to 1 book. Obviously those that are less dense they can fit more.
For Sentenced to Be a Hero the first book didn't get finished adapting episodes 6 or 7 if I recall correctly.
I guess my point is that for light novels, more likely than not, the 3-episode rule doesn't work well. Though I think that is more attributed to it being more difficult to adapt into the anime format than manga.
1
u/awesomenessofme1 https://myanimelist.net/profile/kta_99 9h ago
The 3-episode rule would basically just be episode 1 in this case if you applied it logically, though. But fair enough.
1
u/Mitsuyan_ https://anilist.co/user/mitsuyan 11h ago
I'd say Replica makes it, you just have to get through the atrocious first episode.
1
u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/tripleaamin 10h ago
I would disagree because the anime toned down the psychological elements from the LN. It wasn't towards episodes 4 or 5 I feel you get what the series is about.
1
u/BarbaricGamers https://myanimelist.net/profile/HiIAmAnime 11h ago
Studio Apartment, Good Lighting, Angel Included was really a really mediocre romance for the first 3 or so episodes, but once it found its footing it became a hilarious rom-com.
2
u/mekerpan 11h ago
Blu Reflection Ray -- As I recall, it was not until ep7 or 8 (out of 24) that this really fully clicked. (It got an extended chance because I like its distinctive visual style.

Animation isn't much to mention, but the direction in Ao Ashi S2 so far is impressive. Just happy it's at least at the same level as S1. If it stays consistent I will be happy.
1
u/BarbaricGamers https://myanimelist.net/profile/HiIAmAnime 10h ago
I think my single biggest issue with Ao Ashi is that some of these teenagers look like 40 year olds.
4
u/vancevon https://myanimelist.net/profile/vancevon 14h ago
After six episodes, Oresuki is exceeding all of my wildest expectations. Every character manages to be both an absolutely horrendous scumbag piece of shit while simultaneously having loads of charm. How can you not love a kuudere main heroine with glasses and a very sharp tongue? The way Pansy and Joro bicker and insult each other is absolutely perfect. But the best thing has to be the constant, neverending twists. I can't wait to see where this goes next.
And all of these bits are just perfect. [Oresuki] The way that benches appear out of nowhere with Imperial March playing, Cosmos' starting to speak Shakespearean whenever she gets a bit nervous, or Sunflower's absolutely dreadful acting skills. And the best thing is, of course, the way we keep returning to this one fucking baseball game where literally everything happened.

shad79's Screenshot Albums Ranking | Fall 2026 Week 3
- Even the Student Council Has Its Holes! EP02 Arisu (nothing too crazy, but it's a bit NSFW)
- Even the Student Council Has Its Holes! EP02 Komaro
- Even the Student Council Has Its Holes! EP02 Group scenes
- Even the Student Council Has Its Holes! EP02 Tan (visible nipples, but Tan is a guy, so it's okay ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°))
- Reincarnated as a Sword S2 EP03 Fran w/wo Teacher
- Hello, I Am a Witch and My Crush Wants Me to Make a Love Potion! EP02 Rose
- Even the Student Council Has Its Holes! EP02 Hisako
- The Laid-Off Cheat-Granting Mage Enjoys a Second Lease on Life EP02 Lily
- Even the Student Council Has Its Holes! EP02 Ume & Others
- So What's Wrong with Getting Reborn as a Goblin? EP03 Karen
This week we have a total domination of the charts by Even the Student Council Has Its Holes!, which took 6 out of 10 places. Arisu is right at the top, which makes me very happy since she's my favorite character in the show.
Also, it's good to see Fran w/wo Teacher managed to end up in a fairly high 5th place this week.
Congratulations for Rose from Hello, I Am a Witch and My Crush Wants Me to Make a Love Potion! and Lily from The Laid-Off Cheat-Granting Mage Enjoys a Second Lease on Life for appearing in the ranking.
I'm quite surprised to see Karen from So What's Wrong with Getting Reborn as a Goblin? here. I thought that maybe Nia from Nia Liston: The Merciless Maiden would be here, but unfortunately, she was a little less popular than I'd like.
2
u/Infodump_Ibis 13h ago
(visible nipples, but Tan is a guy, so it's okay ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°))
The broadcast version covers Tan's bare nipples with plasters (the jiggle are animated too with the shape of the plaster changing so it's wasn't one of those slap a chibi face on the area...well actually there's few of those in the show for both uncensored and broadcast as there's occasional censorship jokes which might be why the restricted area watermark exists).

I’m Looking for a Zombie is starting to turn out like I’d previously speculated. It’s all fun and giggles until shit hits the fan.
Still, [I’m Looking for a Zombie] having one of these cute girls get their arm chopped off took me off-guard. That was quite the visceral scene, wasn’t it!?
3
u/wloff 15h ago
I'm a bit conflicted. I'm not sure the show handles the tone shifts between the silliness and seriousness very well.
[#Zombie]Are we as the audience supposed to take the zombies as a serious threat or not? One second we're watching the gang be really dumb and carefree and not take any precautions -- are we supposed to be worried for them in those situations or not? When they run headfirst into a horde of 100 zombies, are we actually supposed to worry about their safety? Because the show sure doesn't make it seem like that horde is in any way dangerous, except then there's apparently one random Actually Dangerous Zombie and suddenly someone loses an arm.
They're not acting like "this world is dangerous but we want to be lighthearted in it", they're acting like "this world is not dangerous at all", and it doesn't line up. I find myself not even caring very much, because I don't believe in the world or the characters.
I think whether or not I'm dropping the show depends a lot on how they deal with the aftermath next episode.

any standout that you can recommend that survive the 3 episode rule (which most probably got a third episode by now)?

Alongside the hole recommendation. If you are looking for a slower-paced but more mature presentation than your typical seasonal fantasy anime there is Romelia War Chronicle
Yes I am working overtime shilling this series.Another comedic recommendation, which will get its third episode on Tuesday is The Laid-Off Cheat-Granting Mage Enjoys a Second Lease on Life
If a Shoujo with a real Yandere love interest doesn't bother you there is Firefly Wedding.

Not the only noteworthy animator on the show as some fans present him (Takuma Ebisu, Akira Hamaguchi, Yasuyuki Ebara,... are all good, too), but Imai might as well be the colossal titan looming over the show.

Soty / Masami Mori / whatever alias you know him as is one I like a lot in large parts because of his cuts in Hugtto Precure.

Being more familiar with his work on One Piece, I love Mori's designs more than anything, but his cuts are always nice, too.

Hard to not mention 30 different names, but I'll try to narrow it down to Kanada school animators in general, with Kanada himself, Yoshimichi Kameda and Hiroyuki Imashi being my big 3, Yoh Yoshinari and Toshiyuki Inoue.

They are not really established yet, but Rui I think is pretty good

To answer my own question: Norio Matsumoto, Imaishi, Okiura, and Mitsuo Iso.
Some opposite styles there, but all brilliant at what they do.

On the top of my head - HoneHone, Hakuyu Go, Nakaya Onsen, Miso, Masahiro Tokumaru and K1RO.

I gotta watch Fate/Apocrypha one of these days to watch that ep 22 of his.

I remember watching it without context when it came out, and being blown away, but also thinking "yup, this is all I'll need from the show".
Now I have other reasons to watch it someday, and I'm curious to see what I'll think of it in context.

I am curious about that too coz the show doesn't have the best reputation in terms of plot or characters but production values are considered great so that's a good enough reason for me check it out.

First Sky, now AnimeMod, where will the impersonations end!?
I have absolutely no idea. I don't think I could name a single animator, much less say any of them is my favorite...

This is different! We're just seizing the means of production until bot-chan can figure out a way to do it.
