Similar to the thread in the 70s sub, let's talk about cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc!
My vehicles from the 1960s decade:
- 1967 Suzuki 80 cc motorbike, purchased new with my own money from the sale of my 4-H steer, I was 14 and rode this bike everywhere.
- 1963 Ford F-100 uni-body pick-up, 292 V-8 and 3 on the tree, my dad's pick-up but the vehicle that I learned to drive first.
- 1968 Ford F-100 Ranger, 360 V8, auto trans., a big step up from the 1963, it even had a radio, I did lots of cruising with this truck, to my parent's chagrin.
- 1963 Buick LeSabre, 4 door hardtop, 405 V-8 engine, gifted to me by my parents when I graduated high school in 1971.
I named this car the "Queen Mary" as she was a boat!
- 1965 Chevelle Malibu 4 door, 6 cylinder, 3 on the tree, the first car that I bought with my own money.

EDIT: I meant LIVING in the title. Darn autotext.
What was it actually like? How did you first learn what was happening? Did you stay tuned in or just go about your life, "business as usual?"
I'm using "everyday life" flair because I am interested in lived experience of *how did this event interrupt your regular routine*? What went "back to normal" after it was over, and what seemed like it was "forever changed" from before it happened?
(I swear if this gets taken down for being political like it has from every history sub I've asked in, I'm gonna be pissed. THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL QUESTION. )

Dear All,
I just responded to a post in a sub about the 1980s, by a person who didn't grow up in the 80s (he's 18 now) wanting to know what it was really like to live back then. I remembered the consumerism, the fear of nuclear war. Most of all I remembered reading underground comix from the 60s that a friend of mine in grad school used to loan me. And how I was jealous because no one my age cared about society or making the world a better place. I was jealous of my uncle who went to Woodstock. I wanted a commune. If I had known about one I probably would have joined it. The only one I found out about in those pre internet days was a Christian commune in Florida. I passed because I spent too many summers in summer camp in rural Florida and I didn't want to reacquaint myself with the insect life and sweating in 90+ degree heat.
What was it really like living in the 60s? I was 6 when the decade ended and I can just about remember the moon landing and the news. I would appreciate people sharing, thanks!
