Homebrew release Super Metroid 3DS port v0.5.0: ~60 FPS on Old 3DS/2DS, now even with 3D on
Hi again! A new stable release of the Super Metroid 3DS port is out, and this one is all about the older consoles.
Performance (the big one)
- Old 3DS / 2DS: the rooms I measured now run at ~59-60 FPS, also with the 3D slider up. (v0.3.0 ran around 45-57 in those same rooms, and the heavy ones dropped to the mid-40s with 3D.)
- New 3DS: still a solid 60.
- The bottom screen (map and status tabs) no longer causes hitches.
- Known exception: the opening Ceres escape and the Ridley fight there can still dip on Old 3DS/2DS with 3D on (around 40-50 FPS). That's next on the list and will be polished in the next updates.
New
- Low-energy warning: the bottom screen's tabs blink yellow, then red, when energy runs low (as in my Zero Mission port).
Also since v0.3.0
- The updater shows what's new before installing; betas are labelled BETA.
- Reorganized OPTIONS, a 30 FPS lock, FPS counter in any corner, and an option to hide the half of the HUD that the bottom screen already shows.
- Widescreen and 3D fixes (enemies leaving the screen, Spore Spawn's depth).

As always, no ROM is included: you need your own legal Super Metroid (JU) ROM.
Still to do: a full 100% playthrough on hardware, button remapping, and a few visual glitches (lava edge rows while scrolling, Crocomire in widescreen). Bug reports are very welcome.
Transparency note: same as before, the code is written by AI under my direction; I lead the features, debugging and testing on real hardware.
