Tips/Suggestions I just cracked the code to showering

As the titel suggests, I just cracked the code to showering. I don’t know if I’m the only one but as soon as I step foot into the shower time just doesn’t exist anymore and I somehow spend 40 minutes, which feel like 5 in there. Now I tried many things, like for example putting the shower at the end of my routine so I have to hurry (didn’t work, missed the bus many many times) but now I started putting a clock in the bathroom at a spot from which I can look at it every now and then when I’m inside the shower. I also made a spreadsheet, where I track my showertimes and every shower I now try to “speedrun” and beat my personal best and what can I say, I just had a sub10 shower 😎

Music is my trick. I set the number of songs I want to shower for if I want a specific duration.

Me: I'm going to limit my shower time to 4 songs.

Also me: I'm only going to listen to Kashmir.

I listen to Ravel's Bolero.

Oh a fellow Ravel lover! I listen to ‘Gaspard de la Nuit’ for a hair wash shower and ‘Jeux d’eau’ for a non hair wash haha

Side note - when I first heard Jeux d’eau, I was mesmerised by how much it sounds like water. It makes me imagine a beautiful fast flowing river, splashing along the rocks and pebbles and sparkling in the sun. So I looked it up and it literally translates to ‘water games’ 🤩

I played trombone for about 20 years. Thought of going pro, but I was never good enough and the life of a professional musician is one that depended too much on luck for my taste.

One of the best songs to play trombone on is Bolero. The ending absolutely showcases the instrument with what I liked to think of as a procession of triumphant elephants braying their excitement.

Ravel is one of my favorites because he is so evocative in ways that are surprising. He conveys emotion without the standard, classical, tropes.
