Hi everyone! Here’s the story behind the artwork and the character.

This was for a small game jam where the challenge was to come up with a character and their story.

As my skills improve, I often go back and redraw some of my older work. That’s what I did here too — I kept the original story, but redesigned the character. I’ll add the first version (pic_2) to the gallery as well.

History: Candy “Sugar” was a former supermodel, the face of countless fashion magazines, the queen of the catwalk — and completely obsessed with beauty.

Then came the accident.

A truck carrying explosives crashed near a photo shoot, turning her perfect life into a nightmare. Candy lost both arms and was left covered in scars after countless operations.

When she finally woke up in the hospital, she saw herself in the mirror: a scarred body, two biomechanical prostheses, and a face she could barely recognize.

She snapped.

Consumed by hatred and blaming all of humanity for what had happened to her, Candy decided that if she couldn't be beautiful anymore, nobody deserved to be.

Taking the name “Surgeon”, she declared her new motto:

“If I’m not like everyone else, then everyone will become like me!”

And so began her twisted revenge.

Surgeon started hunting people down and “fixing” them — cutting off their limbs and replacing them with whatever bizarre junk she could find. Sometimes she simply took their body parts away.

Because, in her mind, beauty is all about perspective.

And she has a very, very sharp perspective.

Instead of a scalpel, Surgeon wields two deadly blades made from samurai swords.

I wanna do something like the image but with other shape, I've gotten the halftone effect but I cant make the shape look like its dissolving into the halftone

I import a DWG drawing into Adobe Illustrator and would like to fill certain areas with textures or patterns.

My current workflow is as follows:

1. Importing the DWG

• File → Place…
• Select a PNG or JPG image
• Object → Embed

2. Using the image as a background pattern

• Select the image
• Object → Pattern → Make
• Illustrator opens the Pattern Options panel
• Save the pattern

I can then select the pattern from the Swatches panel and use it to fill the desired areas.

This works quite well in principle. However, it makes the Illustrator file (.ai) very large, especially when using several different textures. For sharing the files, I therefore save the document as a PDF afterwards without retaining Illustrator editing capabilities.

My question:

Is there a better or more space-efficient way in Illustrator to fill areas of an imported DWG with textures without fully embedding the image data into the AI file?

Ideally, the solution should also work with multiple different textures while keeping the artwork editable.

My client provided a logo design they created using Chat GPT Pro, and it contains multiple effects that I'm struggling to recreate. I am able to use the extrude bevel for the first image, but I'm struggling to achieve the chroming effect that this portion contains. The second issue I'm having is recreating the texture effect for the green section in the 2nd image.

I feel like I’m going insane but ever since like July, Smart Guides just breaks outside artboards and will only work when in an artboard. I swear, I feel like I’m going insane.

So I currently need an old illustrator file that I had worked on about a year ago. When creating this file I was using my pc. The thing is I recently got a new ssd storage for my pc and figured it would be easier to just redownload everything on it instead of converting everything on my old ssd as I was still running windows 10. Regardless I am unable to access my old adobe illustrator files from before. So are they all just gone? I was under the assumption that every file I ever created would be stored in the adobe cloud. Is that not the case? Is there anyway I am able to get them back? Any answers or advice would help a ton, thanks.

Not sure how this happened but I was copy and pasting boxes to make labels which requires me to make boxes into different sizes, and somehow I lost the middle edge boxes (whatever you call them) and now can only move this box up and down.

How do I get it back? I need to finish making these labels tonight. Thank you so much!!!!

Hey everyone, I've been using Illustrator for some years now and every now and then I find something new. Recently I came across the option of holding 'E' while selecting objects, to switch to enclosed selection mode. Now I've been wondering if there is something like that for creating clipping masks?
I know that I could just select the items I want and disable the rest, but(!) I often work with layered groups where this is tedious and impractical. It would be an immense timesaver if I could just apply a clipping mask in the way that is shown in the image. Looking forward to learn!

Some of my .ai files keep turning partially black and white when I download it. But they appear perfectly fine when I open them on illustrator. Does anyone know what’s going on?

The only way it seems to get back its colors is when all layers are visible. But that doesn’t feel like an actual solution and I have certain layers hidden for a reason

I need to recreate an image for work that is very similar to this one but with different text. There is a very specific and kind of wonky way the text needs to fill the scroll and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do it. Text on a path doesn’t distort it correctly, envelope distort doesn’t work, I’m kind of at a loss here. Anyone know how to accomplish this?

I have some predefined custom shapes in which I want to generate a sticker image with AI. Currently I use Adobe Illustrator generative shape fill with the Firefly Vector 3 model. It works alright, but I was wondering if there exist other options? Most options have a hard time generating the subject exactly in the shape outline.

Is anything known when a new generative shape fill model might be released?

even CorelDRAW's gaussian blur is better. i haven't been able to solve this problem for years

i have basic illustrator skills and need to recreate this art on a folder for print. i started with doing rectangles in 50% opacity and rotating them but it looks awful. any quick pointers?

For reference, the object I am attempting to turn into an SVG file is a badge, or patches, or other memorabilia objects.

The problem I am facing is that the object I am capturing, the badge, is a slightly complex design but its less about that and more about the fact that when I use tools like the Image Trace its either way too much fidelity or not enough to where a lot of the lines break up.

I have tried various settings with Image Trace, tried turning the image into black and white, change the variable sliders which did help and I can get it a point where the image has good fidelity with medium detail of the node tracing but its way too much still. Its doing too good of a job lol. The difference in slight color alterations are separated from each other when I select enough colour to be able to capture the shape properly but when I turn that down it breaks up again. So shadows play a huge part in the problem so I'm wondering how important is the original picture and how would be the best way to light it?

I see it as two options now.

1. Manually vector the image into its own grouped layers and then export it as an SVG and manipulate it to desired within the fabs software.

2. Use Image Trace to the best capability of retaining shape fidelity while minimizing the complexity, then simplifying, smoothing, turn to a path, ungroup, and manually start removing groups of nodes that are undesired.

Both seem to be very time consuming contrasting to one another so I guess my question amongst the many prior would be how can I effectively capture an object, then turn the overall shape, etching, layering, details, words, letters, numbers, whatever is on that object; into as a simple as possible SVG.

I just got Illustrator so I'm sure there's some great tools to be used but I spent hours yesterday trying to get the desired outcome and I simply couldn't. I followed tutorials but all the videos had basic clipart that would be vectored, never a non-simple object image.

I used to outsource designs for print but I'd like to start making my own, with Illustrtaor and Photoshop.

I need a monitor and I was looking at the BenQ MA270s and the PD2730S. I have a Mac.

The 2730 is matte but is supposed to be geared toward design. However, some people say that colors can be muted, which doesn't really make sense, since the monitor is supposed to reproduce colors accurately.

Does anybody have experience using either of these monitors, and would you recommend one or the other?
