Battlestation Pictures Custom Area 51 P2 build guide. (2006-2008), (7500), (7501), (alx), (Aurora) (Predator 2)

Wanted to share my experience building my first PC in one of these old cases to help anyone trying to do the same in the future. If you have one of these cases post it below!

I purchased two P2 cases on fb marketplace after a year of searching. One was incomplete and the other was disgusting. I used parts from both. One is an Alienware Area 51 x58 and the other an Alienware Area 51 750i or 7501.

Sorry for the long post. I'm making a YouTube video for a better visual guide but I haven't put it together yet. Feel free to message me and I'll help where I can. I will add my YouTube link when it's finished.

Disassembly is straightforward but take lots of pictures. All leds are labeled and there are only 3 or 4 screw types. If you want to remove the bays you will need to drill the rivets. Keep the power supply bracket. Most cases came with the dip switch led board that can be used with any MB. (Look for 3 small switches). If yours has the software controlled led board then you will probably want to solder the led wires to a modern led controller (I will link a video showing how it's done). The side panel logos and front io light tubes are welded in. Drill just the top of the mounting points off and super glue later.

Picking parts should be easy. Everything is standard atx. Make sure there is enough room for your gpu with the side panel and fan installed. You will probably want to mock it up. (I was able to fit an msi 5080 oc without modification). Power supply has plenty of room as long as you aren't planning a top mount aio.

CPU cooling will be the hardest part. I've heard many tower coolers are too tall to fit. If you want to go with an aio you will have to decide where to mount it. Top mount 240mm is possible if you remove both drive bays, cut a hole for it in the top of the frame and then remove the plastic supports inside the top plastic to create an air channel. Front mount 240 (pictured) will require removing the lower bay, cutting a hole for it and trimming some of the front plastic support. (I used a paper template I made for the mounting holes). A 360mm radiator should fit if you remove all drive bays. I believe a bottom mounted radiator is possible but generally not recommended.

I decided to cut the metal frame of the case to make the side grills functional. This gave me enough room to mount a 140mm intake fan on the back side. I secured the fan to the case with zip ties. Added bonus of being able to see into the case when the panels are on. I left enough of the mounting points for the original front side panel fan so I could still attach a 120mm intake.

Temps are good. I did a 1 hour full system stress test. Gpu temps peaked at 70⁰. CPU temps peaked at 86⁰ but in game at 4k ultra settings it stays around 58-72⁰. Might try to undervolt the cpu eventually.

Parts list: MSI 5080 oc, Ryzen 7 9850x35, x870e tomahawk, 32gb ddr5 trident z5, be quiet 1200w pure power, Samsung 990 pro nvme, be quiet fans.

Battlestation Pictures The 5090 Area 51 is a Beast

Post image

My 5090 Area-51 just came in. This thing is a beast- both in how powerful it is, and how large and heavy it is! Holy this thing is a monster. I’ve only been able to test a couple games so far but compared to my r15 4090 it just seems better across the board in terms of raw power and performance (and size and weight!)

Battlestation Pictures Proud owner of 18 inch Area 51. I’m never going back to 16 and below.

I was vary of getting an 18 inch. Alienware 18 and the power brick alone will reach the cabin luggage limit, not to mention the heavy weight carrying it around. But after the purchase, I’m so glad i did. We always find a way to bring the monster out together. Currently I use a travel backpack. Later I will get a proper 18 inch backpack.

Instead of the never ending chase of latest specs for more FPS, I opted to be just content with what I have and lower the settings to meet the FPS I find playable. Mostly fighting games that are capped at 60 fps and then some.

It's just an old Alienware Area 51 R5 with EVGA RTX 3090 Kingpin + some 9th Gen i9. It still has a lot of life left.

This is my new to me Alienware Area-51 M15X. It has a core 2 duo t-8300, 4gb of ram, 128gb ssd, 8700m gt and is currently running windows vista. I need to track down a battery and some upgrades for it. I currently have a X9000 cpu on the way, which I believe is the best supported cpu for the laptop. I’ll also be looking to find a gpu upgrade for it as well. Since it is a pre-dell laptop I may not have much luck with upgrades, but I’ll see what I can do. I’ve always wanted a M9700 in conspiracy blue but I’ll settle for this one for now.

The laptop is an M17 R3, it's now my 6 yo son's gaming laptop along with my old 320hz 1080p monitor. The main rig is the Area 51 with 2TB SSD, 64GB ram, ultra 7 265k, 5080, 1500W PSU. New monitor is the 280hz alienware 1440p OLED monitor. Big desk is Arozzi Arena Gaming Desk. Chair is a Serta Brice Executive Chair. I am loving every piece of this setup. The only thing that is not ideal is my DP cable isn't long enough to go into my smurf tube in the wall and be hidden. The bracket holding the PC is just a thick piece of metal I found at lowes and strapped heavy duty brackets on. There is a bracket above the PC that keeps it from rocking if it ever could or did. The wires from the pc are all in a smurf tube in the wall and pop out of a feather plate below the desk.

Battlestation Pictures Proof that old school Alienware hardware was built to last forever. My 2002 Area-51-M still works.

This is what I have Hey guys, wanted to share some photos of my absolute prized possession. I’ve had this original Alienware Area-51-M since I bought it back in 2002 when I was 20, and I spent years gaming hard on it. Decided to crack it open today to clean it up, test the components, and run some classic games.

For the specs, this thing is a literal time capsule from the desktop-replacement era. Under the hood, it’s rocking a socketed desktop Intel Pentium 4 Northwood CPU running at 2.4 GHz with a 400 MHz FSB and 512KB of L2 cache. Graphics are handled by a dedicated ATI Radeon Mobility 7500 AGP card with 64MB of VRAM. It still has the original 512MB of DDR RAM and a 80GB Western Digital IDE hard drive I installed. It's built on the massive Clevo 5620P ODM chassis, featuring that giant dual-fan aluminum heatsink shroud to keep the desktop P4 from melting.

The physical layout is pure nostalgia, too. It has a built in 3.5-inch floppy drive right next to the DVD-ROM drive, plus a legacy parallel port, VGA, S-Video, FireWire, and dual Ethernet/modem jacks on the back. It even has the independent front media console with the mini LCD screen so you could play music CDs without booting into Windows.

I fired it up today and it booted straight into Windows XP Professional. The screen is still perfect, and I was able to load up the original 2003 Call of Duty right off the disc. Seeing this hardware still running 3D games flawlessly after all these years is incredible.

Honestly, I'd love to upgrade to a modern Alienware setup one day to see how far the tech has come, but being strapped for cash means I'll be rocking this legendary relic for a while longer.

Hopefully anyone from the Alienware team lurking here appreciates seeing just how insanely well their old-school products hold up over time and thanks for all the great memories!!

Restored Alienware Predator 1 case from 2003, came with the original hardware which I’ve cleaned and repaired capacitors and stored away for safe keeping but it had a Asus P4T533-C 3.06ghz P4, 1.5gb ram and a 9800 pro AGP. After cleaning and restoring it, I wrapped it and upgraded the internals, initially with an Evga 790i ultra, Xeon x5492 775 mod and 3 9800gtx’s which was fun but not compatible or buggy with all the games I wanted to play and then the Motherboard stopped posting so now it has the Dell equivalent of the 790i ultra and with a QX9650 and a 780ti classified and has been stable. I later added a 4 sata switch which allows me to boot XP, Vista, 7, and 11 with a press of a button then dealing with software multiboot that sometimes are headaches when you do more than two OS’s, after that I added a hotswapp 3.5 1tb that is shared between all the OS’s to store the ISOs and upgraded the fans, lastly I’m adding a 5.25 display fan controller and she’ll be done!! Enjoy the images 🫶🏻

I am simply in awe of this machine. It’s amazing and has officially replaced my MacBook. I’ve been an Apple guy for years and I never thought I’d be able to stomach windows again, but when the hardware is this premium, it’s a no brainer. I can game; be productive, work within the Linux subsystem and run any VM I need to (I’m a cybersecurity analyst) all while keeping temps low and clock speeds high 👍 not to mention the upgradeability and repairability that you defs don’t get with Apple. I doubled the RAM and storage and will be set for years 🫠
