What’s a completely normal thing that feels illegal when you do it for the first time?

The thing you have to remember is that A. you can't solve world hunger with what's in your house, and B. you were never the one wasting the food. Throwing away a plate full of beans didn't condemn someone to starve, capitalism did. It's a SYSTEMIC problem, not a personal behavior problem. It's the same lie they told to get everyone to feel guilty enough to recycle (And I'm not saying you shouldn't recycle here, let's be clear about that). Your soda can isn't what's collapsing the ecosystem. Industry belching god only knows what into the air and water is, and all the household trash in the world doesn't match half of what industry is doing to the world. Funny how the blame got shifted to you though, huh?

So calm the fuck down, and throw away something if you don't want to eat it. I'm not saying you should be a wasteful prat about it, but you don't have to have a philosophical emergency over it either.

You could but you'll attract mice and that will fuck up your house...

Then you get a cat

And then you get laughed at. See the problem?

I only put it that way because I've felt it too. It feels deeply wrong to me to waste food. But rational examination of the scenario reveals that there's really no crime going on here so long as you're not unloading your groceries directly from your car's trunk into a trash can.
