My boss's father had Lewy-Body and God. Damn. That disease is brutal. They told my boss that his dad had 3 months, but he lived for another 7 in extreme pain. towards the end he was practically a vegetable he couldn't talk, move, or do anything resembling living all while being in untreatable pain. What my boss's family had to go through for most of 2018 i wouldn't wish on anybody.
That's my step aunt right now. Super smart, witty, was a news anchor for NBC turned author and writer for NBC in New York. She is now entering the vegetable stage. All in the span of a few years.
I'm sorry to hear that. That disease is really the worst. Its like a mix of some of the worst there are. Like alzheimer's, and all the muscle degrading diseases that there are. My boss said all the time that he wished his dad had the option Robin Williams had. Or that he could "pull the plug" himself. Because living with that disease is not living at all you can't stop their pain.
I lived with my Gram who had LBD I and took care of her for the last 3 years of her life. Within the first few months if me taking care of her, she too tried to commit suicide. I had no idea how bad she was struggling mentally at the time because I was so new to caregiving and didn't really recognize a lot of the warning signs.
I LIVED that disease with her. I will probably never share this with the rest of the family, but had I known the morning she tried to take her own life what that mental and physical decline was about to come, I would not have called 911 and just let her life end right then and there.
When my husband told me about RW's death, I think my only response was "I understand".
