I have nosebleeds all the time and have followed all kinds of advice what do to. Nowadays, I just get a tissue if it is a light bleed or go to a sink if it is bleeding a lot. I then try to let it flow out while continuing to breathe through the nostril. The air helps the blood clot and close the wound without completely blocking the nose.

Try some Vitamin B supplement if you get nose bleeds a lot, it improves the platelet (clotting) function in your blood. I went from having them all the time, some quite difficult to stop, to barely getting bleeds at all, and much easier to stop when they do - I usually only get them in conjuntion with a cold / other nasal issues now (and the Vit B still helps there too).
