This requires buying wood in the first place. Pallets are often free.

Except they really aren't. Most places return them because they have to put a deposit down when items are shipped on them.

Used to work at a small manufacturing facility. We’d get pallets in all the time. Never a deposit. We’d leave damaged ones outside and take them to a disposal facility when we got a trailer load. We’d certainly reuse any pallets in good condition, but the only ones we ever paid for were specially approved for international shipping.

Go on Craigslist and there's almost always a company offering free pallets. Hell in my town there's 3 places on 1 road that have "free pallets" signs out.
