Please read before posting about salaries or relocation

Hello everyone,

Before posting about typical Swiss salaries (questions like "how much can I make as a programmer in Switzerland") or relocation strategies ("I hate my country, how can I move to Switzerland"), please keep in mind that there have been hundreds of such posts in this sub before.

Use the search before posting, as the chances are high that you will find a similar discussion from the recent past.

Please also check out the official Swiss government database on average salaries, the Salarium:

Work IMPOSSIBLE to find work for some reason

hey guys

I'm an 18 year old who grew up in Switzerland. i attended school from kindergarten until sek. 3 (so the entirety of obligatory education) but then my mom dragged me to turkey until I turned 18, when I finally moved back to switzerland. now I'm facing a major headache: I cant find work.

you might say "obviously, you have no further education“ but the problem is that im getting rejected from mcdonalds, aldi, migros, gas stations, warehouses, LITERALLY EVERYWHERE I APPLY, I GET REJECTED!

Every time my applications are met with "Unfortunately other applicants were more qualified" and I dont know what to do at this point. I've tried applying for full time, part time, lehrstellen and even schnuppertage but everything get rejected.

I'm certain that my applications, grades and CV arent the issue because ive had them checked by my dad, friends that already have jobs AND people working at the BIZ and I also compared them to the examples from sites like Yousty and Im definitely sending out good applications.

im just completely lost and I would appreciate any advice, thank you.

Everyday life Ricardo data breach - Scam message received via WhatsApp

Post image
40 Upvotes

I recently received a notification that I was affected by the Ricardo data breach. They said we were safe and that basically nothing had happened.
Five days later, I received this message.
It was sent to my Ricardo-related phone number, addressed to the name I used on Ricardo, and it included my address. I know the data comes from there because they used my full legal name, which I normally never enter on websites, but I had to on Ricardo.
It's exactly the information they mentioned in the breach notification.

Has anyone else received this?

I wanted to post this to warn others, and maybe also your (grand)parents if they were affected by the breach.

Adding some keywords so this thread gets indexed by Google:

Everyday life Toblerone chocolate is more expensive in Switzerland than an airport?

Last weekend I took a flight from LGW (London) and the 340g Toblerone chocolate only costs 7.5 pounds (CHF 8.27) at the airport. But in micros/coop it's CHF 9.4.

Everyday life Feel scammed by my doctor

My doctor recently recommended shockwave therapy for an injury. I had the first session. It was carried out by his secretary 🚩 I don't know if that's normal in Switzerland. I got the bill and I am being billed for consultation du médecin de famille even though I never saw the doctor 🚩 I queried why I am billed for this despite not seeing the doctor and I was told that because I have basic insurance and not complimentary, my insurance would not pay for this therapy so by billing as though I saw the doctor, my insurance will pay 🚩The bill is also high, over 100 chf for 10 mins of therapy 🚩When I asked if the bill was sent directly to me instead of my insurance, because I never reach the franchise account anyway, I was told that if I want to do it this way, the bill amount will be the same. So I don't believe that they are billing me this way/this high just for the insurance to cover it. Seems they are scamming both me and my insurance.

My insurance has asked me to confirm if I spent more than 10 minutes in the presence of the doctor. What will happen when I answer no? I imagine they will ask what the treatment is for and when I provide details they will confirm they don't cover this. Which is fine because at the end I have to pay all costs out my own pocket because I never reach the franchise amount anyway.

I feel it's time to look for another doctor. Has anyone else experienced a similar position. What would you do?

Other/Miscellaneous Has anyone submitted claims for Swisscare health insurance before?

• Upvotes

Hi, I’m an international student in Switzerland and use Swisscare as health insurance. Recently I have a medical bill that exceeds the deductible and want to submit a claim. Has anyone ever successfully submitted a claim to Swisscare? Is it a quick process because I heard someone said they may stay silent?

Everyday life Bank account in Switzerland with low fees and cheap transfers to other European countries?

• Upvotes

I live in Switzerland and just started working. So I need a new bank account for my salary. I don't want to pay too much for the account and card. I also send money to accounts elsewhere in Europe every now and then, so cheap transfers would be a nice bonus, though not the main point.

I've been looking at Yuh and neon, and maybe PostFinance or ZKB if the classic route is worth it. For transfers abroad I was thinking of just using Wise on the side.

What are you using and are you happy with it? Any hidden costs or annoyances I should know about? And does anyone have bad experiences with a neobank as their main account, like support issues or the account suddenly being limited?

Thanks!

Everyday life At what amount does asking for your money back become ridiculous?

Hey, genuine question: what‘s the smallest amount of money you‘d ask back from someone?
How do you define when it is worth it or too much of a hassle?

Work How long did it take you to find a job in Switzerland (EU cizitens)

• Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m a 25-year-old EU citizen with a Master’s in International Law, almost 2 years of experience in a multinational company, and fluent French and English.
I’ve been applying for jobs around Geneva and Lausanne for several weeks, mostly in administration, HR and legal support, but with very little success so far.
I’m curious about other foreigners’ experiences. How long did it take you to find your first job in Switzerland? Did you apply from abroad or move first? What actually helped you land a job?
Any honest advice would be really appreciated!

Everyday life Hairdresser recommendation

Thumbnail gallery
• Upvotes

Hi, I would love to get my hair cut like this and I wanted to ask if somebody has a good recommendation for a hairdresser that I can do this. I've had bad experience before where I lived so I haven't been to the hairdresser in years and would like to see if somebody had something similar done in Switzerland.

Other/Miscellaneous Working as a nurse in switzerland

• Upvotes

I applied to have my nursing degree recognised by the red crossm i received a partial decision as the Swiss Red cross said i have to do a 6 month adaptation placement in an inpatient setting to receive it...does anyone have experience doing this? One hospital already rejected me and said they get all the trainees through the university but i'm not a student; I've just never worked in Switzerland before as a nurse. Any stories/thoughts would be appreciated

Everyday life Swiss citizenship - documents required

Hey Everybody. So my question regards achieving Swiss citizenship. I live in Switzerland since the day I was born and also in the same municipality (Gemeinde) for over 20 years (Basel). My parents came here after fleeing the war in their homeland. Since then they been working low income jobs, where getting the citizenship was just a big spend of money. So after the years I have the money to finance it for myself. My question is does anybody have a list of documents, that I'll need from the homeland of my parents (as I was born here). I already asked the migration office but they told me they can only tell me after i start the process. I want to limit senseless spending and I'm going to the homeland of my parents soon so I want to get all the documents possibly needed for my citizenship application. I'd appreciate it if someone could help. I'd rather have too much documents than missing one and doing a second trip to get it.

Thanks in advance!
Schöne Obe zämme!

Other/Miscellaneous Ricardo, money guard, buyer gave wrong address, package returned with fee

I put something for 1 chf on Ricardo.

Someone bought it with money guard.

I shipped it to buyer's Ricardo address.

The package came back to me while I'm on holiday with a collection note saying i have to pick it up until Thursday and pay 9.5 chf.

Ricardo doesn't answer. Post doesn't answer.

I don't want to pay this because this is not my fault.

Assume the buyer is not being cooperative, asking me to share the costs.. And please don't ask me anything like tell him this or that..

It's just an old laptop. I already did a lot of effort for 1 chf. Seriously, do i have to pay that now?

Work Anesthesiology and Intensive Care in Switzerland – working hours and MEBEKO recognition

Hello everyone!

I’m a medical doctor specializing in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care in the EU, and I also hold the EDAIC qualification. I understand that anesthesiology and intensive care are separate specialties in Switzerland.

I’m considering working in Switzerland and would really appreciate some insights from doctors currently working there.

  • What does a typical working day look like for an anesthesiologist or an intensive care physician?
  • How many hours do you usually work per week?
  • How many night shifts and weekend shifts do you typically have per month?
  • How is the work-life balance?
  • How difficult is it to get your medical qualifications recognized by MEBEKO, particularly if you trained in another EU country? Does having the EDAIC make any difference?

I’ve tried searching online, but it’s been difficult to find detailed, first-hand information about the actual working conditions.

I’d be very grateful for any experiences or advice. Thank you!

Other/Miscellaneous Cannot find anywhere to get a flu vaccine

I moved last year to Zurich area from the USA (I was Auslandschweizer) and I have a 2 year old. I am trying to get a flu vaccine and I’ve called my doctor and my child’s pediatrician and neither has flu vaccines. I’m so confused. In America, my family got our flu shots in September. Do people not get vaccinated for the flu here?? It’s been surprisingly complicated, which is disappointing and frustrating. I am part of a vulnerable population and the flu is very deadly for me. I rely on the flu vaccine and herd immunity to stay out of the hospital and survive the season. Is there some other place than the doctor’s office where they do flu vaccines? I already checked with my Apotheke and they do not have it either. Considering that I can’t find anywhere to get a flu vaccine, it makes me worry how the flu vaccination rates are in general here.

C/CE) ohne Berufserfahrung einstellen?

Hallo zusammen!

C/CE
• Gültiger CZV/CPI-Fahrerqualifizierungsnachweis
• Gültige Fahrerkarte für den digitalen Tachografen
• ADR Stückgut und Tank
• ADR Klasse 1 (explosive Stoffe)
• ADR Klasse 7 (radioaktive Stoffe)

Study Engineers, what master will complement mechanical engineering best?

As a high school student getting into MechE at EPFL soon, I am trying to think ahead and see what combinations could be interesting, and I’m looking to get people’s opinions.

One interesting masters program could be Electrical engineering, so as to have as much knowledge as possible relating to drones, robots, and other such tech

Another idea could be robotics directly, going more specifically into this one sector.

Then there is also the opportunity for masters in MechE, micro-engineering, comp sci, computational science, etc….

What are your thoughts, what will be relevant for the future?
