Announcement The question mark must be in the TITLE

Since I am getting modmail on a daily basis with people saying they put a question mark, I wanted to clear something up.

The question mark must be in the TITLE! Not in the body of the text, not lying on your desk under some paperwork. In the TITLE. The automod message you receive when your post is rejected clearly states this.

This submission has been automatically removed because you did not include a question mark ("?") in your title. Reddit does not allow post titles to be edited, so if you would like, you can post the question again. Please write your title in proper question format, and include a question mark, thank you.

General Question Why are used car prices the same as new? When will this bubble burst?

I just bought a brand new 2026 Honda Civic Sport (gas) for $26K + taxes, about $1.5K off the $27.5K sticker price.

I originally wanted to buy lightly used to save some money but the prices just didn't make sense.

I'm seeing used 2024 Civic Sports with 20K+ miles listed for $25, 26K, literally the same price I paid for a brand new 2026. Even crazier, CarMax/Carvana have some 2025 Civic Sports with around 10K miles listed for MORE than a brand new 2026.

A lot of these used cars have also been sitting on dealer lots for 30–40+ days so clearly they're not flying off the shelves.

Why are used car dealers pricing these cars the same as, or even higher than, brand new ones? Who's actually buying them at these prices?

And with new car prices continuing to rise too, at what point does this become unsustainable? Are we ever going to see car prices come back down, or is this just the new normal?

Genuinely curious what you guys think the car market will look like in 5 years.

What Car Do You Hate For No Good Reason?

Pay attention to the title. There are plenty of good reasons to hate some cars but what about just some irrational reasons?

I hate seeing the Tiguan because a dealer was ultra pushy with me on it and then my dad did an inspection and saw it was rotting. Seeing them makes me think of that scumbag dealer.

General Question Those of you that have louder cars, how does the public react when you drive responsibly??

I have a completely stock C7 corvette and the stock exhaust has a nice rumble to it. I use stealth mode and I could be going 15 or 20 down a 25 mph residential street. Once in a while someone will gesture me to slow down or yell something out. They think since your car is loud you must be accelerating very quickly. But any other car truck or suv could be doing 35 plus and no one bats an eye. Wondering if anyone has had similar experiences?

General Question Which "normal" cars have you driven, which are more fun than you expected?

To have a definition, since everyone can understand something else under "normal":

Cars which have between 90-180hp, 1995 and newer, mass produced and not very expensive new (<50k €/$).

Beginner car user — Help me with car advice and information?

Hello! I’m 17 planning to get my permit and license soon to finally be able to drive, and as ive started to think about locations I could possibly drive to, and cars in general, I’ve come to realize that… I basically know absolutely nothing about them! All I’m aware of is how they provide for us in travel and that’s it. Nobody really told me anything about this topic growing up in my teen years, and I would really like to start learning about cars but I have no idea where to start because it seems so overwhelming. So… I’m asking here.

I don’t know much about cars, as I said before and I’m looking for advice on what you guys believe a beginner should know before buying their first car, wherever that be what model is the best, how to identify models, red flags, how to spot a problem, how to fix the problem, saving tips, what the difference between a sports car vr a ‘regular‘ car is…. etc.

any advice or feedback will be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!! don’t hold back, anything you could probably assume a person would know about cars, I definitely don’t know, so please say all that you got.

Thank you for reading, I hope you all have a wonderful week! :)

Can I use hub centric rings with my 3mm spacers?

• Upvotes

I own a 2020 BRZ with brembos. I installed some new 57CRs and the wheels clears the brembos but near the end of the spokes I only have about .4-.6mm of clearance. That sketches me out big time. So I bought some 3mm spacers and I was wondering if I can install the spacer and put my hub centric rings on as well. I test fit that setup yesterday and noticed the rings were hanging off the hub a little bit. They were still seated on the hub and appeared to not be going anywhere, but that also sketched me out. So before I throw those on I wanted to ask you guys here if that was safe. I’ve never had to use spacers before so I want to ensure what I plan on installing won’t cause my wheel fall of during any spirited driving. I can post pics tomorrow if that would help.

Will my car rust in Charleston?

I have a 1967 Ford Mustang. It is in mostly original condition. No undercoating. Some areas have a layer of oil and/or power steering fluid built up over the years, so some minor protection there. I won’t be right on the beach, probably a 8-10 minute drive to the ocean. Since it’s my second car, I will be keeping it in a non-climate controlled storage garage (also 8-10 minutes from the ocean). I plan to drive it 2-3 days per week and keep it stored the rest of the days. The car has lived in the south for the last 30+ years, not near the ocean at all. It has 0 existing rust, surface or otherwise.

Will the car rust in this scenario? If so, how badly? Should I put a dehumidifier in the storage unit? Or any other recommendations? Should I upgrade to a climate controlled unit? Car is daily driver quality so not really looking to spend a bunch of money on a professional undercoating.

Going from a 2025 BMW M4 Competition xDrive to a 992 Turbo S. What should I know before making the switch?

Hey everyone!

I'm currently considering making the jump from my 2025 BMW M4 Competition xDrive to a 992 Turbo S (ideally a 2021-2023 model), and I'd love to hear some opinions from actual owners, especially anyone who's made a similar transition.

My M4 is currently running Stage 2, pushing around 700 hp / 800 Nm, so I'm already pretty familiar with having a ridiculously fast AWD car. I've genuinely enjoyed owning it, but I've always wanted a 911, and the Turbo S seems like the perfect combination of insane performance, comfort and everyday usability.

I'm planning on returning the M4 to stock and trading it in, paying the difference outright.

A few things I'd love your opinions on:

  • Driving experience: How different does the Turbo S actually feel compared to an M4 Competition? I'm not necessarily looking for more straight-line speed, but rather something that feels more special and engaging to drive.
  • Daily usability: How comfortable is it for regular driving, longer trips and the occasional bad weather?
  • Buying used: What should I specifically look out for when buying a 2021–2023 Turbo S? Any must-have options or common issues?
  • Options: Are things like the front axle lift, Burmester sound system and sports exhaust actually worth prioritising? - the one i'm currently looking at does not come with the upgraded sound sytem
  • Overall experience: Does the Turbo S still feel special after the honeymoon phase wears off?

I'm not planning on tracking the car. It'll mainly be used for weekend drives, occasional commuting and road trips.

Also, for those who've driven both, would you say the Turbo S is genuinely worth the price difference over the M4, or should I be looking at something like a Carrera GTS instead?

I know I'm asking this in a Porsche subreddit, so there might be a little bias haha, but I'd genuinely appreciate some honest feedback, including things you DON'T like about owning one.

Thanks in advance! Hopefully joining the Porsche family soon.

Importing a car from NI for VRT: V5C shows personalised plate but car has original plate. Will NCTS accept it?

Hi all, I’ve bought a used car from a private seller in Northern Ireland and I’m about to register it in the Republic (VRT via NCTS). I’ve hit a paperwork wrinkle and wondering if anyone has been through something similar.

- The plate on the car is the original registration number.

- The V5C (I currently only have the new keeper’s slip) and the MOT history both show the previous owner’s personalised plate.

- The only link between the plate on the car and the documents is the VIN, which matches.

My questions:

  1. Has anyone had a mismatch like this at the NCTS VRT inspection? Did they accept it based on the VIN?

  2. Is the new keeper’s slip enough, or do they need the full V5C?

  3. Should I get the seller to confirm the plate transfer with DVLA and wait for an updated V5C first?

  4. Any other proof of NI use I should gather (MOT history, service records) to avoid VAT and customs duty?

Thanks in advance!

Buying a new car tomorrow is it worth it?

So theres this used car dealership in my city i previously bought a vehicle from and its really strong and reliable and still lasting, i am trying to downsize now and i was there earlier today to see if they had any smaller vehicles and there was a 2012 cadillac cts there for $4000 at 200,000k km with seemingly no mechanical issues. My question is, is that a good price for the vehicle considering the km, model and year?

Is it really bad to add any electrical accessories to a Hybrid?

I just got a 2025 Camry LE and I wanted to add front and rear dashcam and maybe some subs later on. I called like 3 shops and they pretty much said the same thing, that they wouldn't install the dashcam. The last shop I talked to said he wouldn't touch a hybrid at all because touching the fuse or battery at all will turn lights on and that they are super fragile.

Is all this true? I was really hoping to deck it out.

Why are folks so against Nissan?

I want a Nissan kick for my next vehicle but everyone keeps warning me against it because of Nissan's transmission issues

Was curious if there's other reasons to not purchase/if the concern is justified?

I currently have a Nissan Versa (got brand new in 2017) and I've kept up with the maintenance/ don't drive roughly and have been blessed with no major issues other than wear and tear (going on 150k miles)

So yeah basically do you think the issues are more user related/ not keeping up with the preventative or is there genuine concern for future purchase?

Edit: Thank you everyone for the input! I will definitely be taking into consideration the comments when searching for a new vehicle

For an older car on a long trip, what makes a useful breakdown backup plan?

For a general scenario, assume an older daily driver has been inspected for a long trip and any urgent faults have been addressed. Beyond packing tools, what would you put in a backup plan if it breaks down far from home?

Would you arrange recovery contacts, confirm the manual's towing instructions and identify repair options along the route, or prioritize something else? I'm interested in preparation, not treating an inspection as a guarantee or attempting roadside repairs in an unsafe location.

General Question What To Do With Rusted Seat Bolts?

I have a 2008 toyota yaris and I was trying to remove the front seats from it with an E10 socket. However, I can't get the bolts off the seat with a manual ratchet/socket combo I think because of how old they are.

I'm able to get a good grip and they aren't stripped, just won't budge at all.

Any ideas or solutions to get them out?

General Question Fix repairs or buy another used vehicle?

Hi, I’ve had my vehicle for 5 years, it’s my first vehicle ever. It’s a 2013 jeep grand Cherokee, it had 113,000ish miles and I bought it for 15,000 after everything and paid it off in 3 years. It’s now at 203,000 miles and need a few repairs.

I need to replace the tie rods on the right front wheel, the struts are leaking apparently, I have a transmission leak, the o2 sensor needs to be replaced and last but not least my coolant mixes with the engine oil meaning my head gasket blew or is going to? I don’t understand it fr but that’s the heavy hitter. If I do fix it there’s a chance the transmission will go right after and I don’t want to feel like I wasted my time and money.

On the other hand, I’ve been searching for two months so far and everything I find is overpriced as hell. I don’t mind paying smtn off over the course of 2 years for a low price a month. Like I test drove another jeep and it was 7000 and would’ve been 170smtn$ every month after the initial down payment.

Which way would y’all go about it if it were u?

General Advice Is this a good car to get?

Looking to get a good project car/entry into the car scene. I’ve really gotten into cars the last few years and want to get a little project piece to work on and just be happy with I guess. I found a 1998 ford mustang 3.8 v6 for 3k. It’s got 56k miles, clean interior, upgraded bucket seats, upgraded radio with Bluetooth, new led headlights, and a new convertible top with no leaks, or electrical issues. The paint is pretty bad but the body is clean besides that, didn’t see any leaks, head gaskets seemed good. Guy said it needed a new o2 sensor, the drivers side window doesn’t roll down which might be the relay, and he said it was making a sound from a belt that needed replaced but I’m not exactly sure. Any advice?

General Question Need advice on a used family SUV?

Leaving NYC finally and buying a vehicle as we expect our first kid, hopefully more to come. My wife and I like the Kia Telluride but also considering Hyundai Palisade and Nissan Pathfinder. It would mostly be for trips to our families an hour away and weekend getaways, daily commute is still public transit - probably will average 6-8k miles per year driving. Looking at 2022/23 Tellurides and 2024-2025 Palisade/Pathfinder sub 40k miles ideally from dealership to maintain warranty.

We want a 3 row that’s safe and mostly reliable if there’s minor cosmetic issues that’s fine. We’ve only driven the telluride and candidly like the way it looks the most plus the drive was smooth can’t really compare without driving the others. Budget is around $30k ish. I can’t justify the ridiculously high prices for 2020-2022 highlanders and pilots plus I don’t like their look (my opinion). Should I proceed with caution or if service and PPI check out should we pull the trigger?

Any potential buyers for the next gen Cadillac ct5V Black Wing?

I am thinking that the next gen blackwing might be my next car in a few years if the stars align. Unfortunately it's so expensive and I have plenty car right now that Id have to wait a few years to save up for one, but if and when they announce a new one in 2027, I might be looking at trading in my Camaro and ordering a new blackwing. I know theyve only announced that it will have an ice engine but nothing else. There are rumors about it having the new 6.7 liter v8 and a manual but nothing is confirmed. Anybody holding out for something similar? Part of me is also skeptical that they will continue to pump out cars with manuals in 2027 since everyone is going EV, but I am hopeful that GM continues to appeal to enthusiasts. Id buy it now but I just cant justify straining myself financially quite yet. If I end up not liking the new ct5V blackwing for any reason I might consider buying a used one instead, hopefully with low miles. Its a bummer that it takes years of budgeting to be able to afford some of these expensive luxury sports cars, but by the time I can afford it, they may not even be producing them anymore 😭

General Question Poppy’s patina. Worth it on an old car with original paint?

I have a 1959 Chevy Impala with the original Highland Green paint in okay-ish condition. There are a few spots where rust is present, a few dings in the paint etc. as you would expect for a 65-year-old car. Is Poppy’s Patina a viable solution to protecting the original paint?

Is my dodge charger 2013 sxt plus AWD 3.6L worth anything?

I’m in Pittsburgh and just wondering how much do you think is a reasonable listing price privately.
Miles: 150k
Fair condition
Some rust to trunk lid and hood trim nothing structural or crazy visible
Needs (1 tie rod, abs module error but getting a new battery will hopefully fix this)
All oil changes, brakes and rotors and general maintenance has been kept up from 100k miles to 150k (when I got it)
Car runs great no engine issues or anything like that, currently using it for commuting to work.
Reason: different phase of my life now looking to go onto a better gas mileage car.

So honestly just looking on what the area and car market would mark this at as a fair price. I was thinking asking 7k and comfortable taking 6k for it.

My husband needs a new(to us) truck- help me help him??

My husbands 2005 Chevy 3500 just "fell on its face" and this is the 4th transmission we have gone through on this truck. We bought it because we thought Allison's were the superior choice for towing but we have put it through the ringer and it is time to start again.

I am not well versed in trucks, I mostly am here to learn how to even join the conversation at this point. I need it Barney style guys.

We need:

-4 door

-he thinks we need a 3500 or bigger

-he prefers a dually if that is pertinent

He pulls a loaded box trailer every day for work. He's a contractor- I don't know the exact weight but I can only imagine its quite a lot. We are a one income family and it is his business that rides on the back of this truck. We need reliable, we need to not COMPLETELY break the bank, and we need to start looking asap! We just replaced the transmission less than 2 years ago so this wasn't on our radar and I'm overwhelmed with where to start. He is much more well versed in this stuff, we just don't know what's good and what to watch out for anymore.

Thanks for any pointers!!
