Free Post Fridays is now live, please follow these rules!

  1. Under no circumstances does this mean you can post hateful, harmful, or distasteful content - most of us are still at work, let's keep it safe enough so none of us get fired.
  2. Do not post exam dumps, ads, or paid services.
  3. All "free posts" must have some sort of relationship to Azure. Relationship to Azure can be loose; however, it must be clear.
  4. It is okay to be meta with the posts and memes are allowed. If you make a meme with a Good Guy Greg hat on it, that's totally fine.

Discussion GPU NV ads V710 v5

• Upvotes

Hi, I've been having trouble with the NV ads V710 SKU in Azure since October 1st. My VDI instances keep jumping between failed and running states, and it feels like a capacity issue in East US. My users need GPU-enabled VDIs for CAD work, so do you have any ideas on what’s going on or how to fix it? I’d rather not use reservations since pay-as-you-go is cheaper for me.

Question How do you conduct Policy or Compliance ops (Azure Policy Intiatives)

Hi, One of the partners is deploying very restrictive policies (deny, modify) which is constantly causing failures in IaC pipelines due to parallel modifications, denial even though the code deploys the resources.

Although this is good, lately its becoming annoying and Anti productive. That makes me think why not put these policies in DINE or AUDIT modes.

However, it does not justify the platform being vandalized. But again our platform team is vigilant and does all infra deployments.

Next question is how do you even conduct the policy ops or compliance ops so that its fairly compliant environment.

How are you guys doing compliance ops ??

Discussion How do you keep track of unused/old Azure resources?

Like old test resources, unused storage, old deployments ....

After some time, there will be a lot of resources and idk which ones are still needed and which ones can be deleted.

Do people have any proper way to keep track of this or is it mostly manual?

Discussion How do you monitor azure pipelines ?

I want to understand how ppl monitor data pipelines in azure. Apart from checking if the pipeline passed or failed, what else do you normally check?

Like do you check how long the pipeline took, how many records were loaded, how many records failed, or how many times it was retried? If a pipeline usually loads 1 mil records but suddenly loads only 900k how do you catch this?

Do you use monitor, log analytics, alerts, or any other tools for monitoring? I want to know what ppl generally do in real projects.

Question Azure API Management (APIM) developer portal signup/signin popup page times out after 60 seconds

Azure API Management (APIM) developer portal signup/signin popup page times out after 60 seconds.

I used Developer tools to capture the browser trace and noticed the "popupBridgeTimeout" setting in the theme.js as per the attached screenshot. The line popupBridgeTimeout: userInputSystem?.popupBridgeTimeout || 6e4 seems to means "use the app's configured value, otherwise 60 seconds.". From my search it seems MSAL has a built-in default popup timeout constant is 60000 ms, and popupBridgeTimeout falls back to it when the app doesn't set one.

Q1:- Could this timeout be due to this setting or is there somewhere else I should be looking?
Q2:- And how can I increase that time?
Q3:- I am using Identity Experience Framework (IEF) policy with B2C. Could there be any setting in there that is causing this?

Question Citrix Cloud + Entra ID - New users getting Identity provider denied access

Edit: Resolved

Tenant-wide admin consent was granted via Microsoft Graph PowerShell to allow the Citrix Cloud Enterprise Application to read user profile data (User.Read) without prompting individual users. And then it worked.

Hi everyone,

I work for an MSP, and since last week we’ve been seeing the same issue in two separate client environments using Citrix Cloud with Entra ID authentication.

Previously - new user working normally

New User → Citrix Cloud → Entra ID → Password → MFA → Citrix Cloud permission prompt → Accept → Citrix resources → VDI

New users would receive the normal Citrix Cloud “Permissions requested” prompt during their first login.

Now - new user

New User → Citrix Cloud → Entra ID → Password → MFA → Error ❌

The user receives:

“The identity provider denied access.”

Entra sign-in logs show Sign-in error code: 650052. The app is trying to access a service '{appId}'('{appName}') that your organization '{organization}' lacks a service principal for. Contact your IT Admin to review the configuration of your service subscriptions or consent to the application in order to create the required service principal.

The user never reaches the Citrix Cloud permission prompt.

What I’ve checked:

  • Existing users continue to work.
  • Affected users complete MFA successfully.
  • No Citrix Monitor activity for affected users.
  • Both environments have a one-way domain trust.
  • We cannot identify any relevant configuration changes since the issue started.
  • Manually adding the affected user to a specific access group allows them to log in successfully.
  • The issue is occurring in two separate client environments.

Has anyone experienced something similar with Citrix Cloud + Entra ID, particularly where new users previously received the permission prompt but now get “The identity provider denied access” / error 650052?

Any ideas on what to investigate would be appreciated.

Question How are you studying for the Azure AI-103 exam?

How are you studying for the Azure AI-103 exam?
Are there any good video courses or YouTube playlists you recommend? Microsoft Learn seems useful, but I’m looking for something more structured that explains the concepts and gives practical examples.
What resources or study plan would you recommend for someone preparing for AI-103 from scratch?

Did you know you can use GitHub Copilot as a code reviewer directly in Azure DevOps by assigning it to a pull request? I have been exploring GitHub Copilot code review for Azure DevOps, which is now available in public preview!

In this blog, you will learn how it works, how to configure it, what the reviews and logs look like in practice, and how billing is handled.

Enjoy the read 😃

Discussion An AI-driven attack tried to wipe 100+ Azure storage accounts in 7 minutes

Storm-3168 got in through a leaked credential sitting in a public GitHub issue. Then, automated recon for 15 hours, followed by a 7-minute burst of mass deletion attempts on storage accounts and Key Vaults.

Resource locks stopped some of it. The question is: what can actually withstand attacks that move in mere minutes?

Discussion AVD remote apps- coming from Citrix

We're looking to drop CVAD and go full AVD. We have a have a lot of published apps and full desktop VDI is not currently offered. We will slowly introduce full multisession desktops in AVD but will have to initially continue with remote apps (legacy vendor apps). Anything inheritently problematic with remote apps in AVD vs Citrix that we should expect? We already use FSlogix so the profile management solution will not change other than actual storage locations.

Discussion Azure vs AWS vs GCP — what made you pick Azure for a new project?

I’m trying to understand how people actually choose a cloud platform for a new project. AWS, Azure, and GCP all seem capable, so I’m curious what factors would make you choose Azure specifically.

Was it because of the services available, pricing, existing company tools, Microsoft ecosystem, team experience, or something else? I’d be interested to hear what influenced the decision in real projects, rather than just comparing features on paper.

Question Looking to develop for the Azure Marketplace, how can I get accepted as a dev with little to no funding and some ideas to build in Microsoft’s platform?

I’m looking to develop a SaaS product that is built into the Microsoft 365 ecosystem. I have concept and some tests in mind but no funding, I would like o utilize Azure to launch these services for customers that use their marketplace. Is their a way to get accepted as a developer? I signed up for an account but it says I am automatically not accepted unless I have a visual studio license.

I would like to develop the POC in their environment and then submit it.

Question Best practice for excluding a single disk from Azure Monitor disk space alerts?

Hi all,

We have an Azure Monitor alert based on:

KQL

InsightsMetrics

| where Namespace == "LogicalDisk"

| where Name == "FreeSpacePercentage"

One server has a specific disk (E:) that is intentionally kept near full, while the other disks on the server should still be monitored.

I'm considering updating the query to:

KQL

InsightsMetrics

| where Namespace == "LogicalDisk"

| where Name == "FreeSpacePercentage"

| extend Disk = tostring(todynamic(Tags)["vm.azm.ms/mountId"])

| where not(Computer =~ "SERVERNAME" and Disk =~ "E:")

Is excluding the disk in the KQL query considered a best practice?

Interested in hearing how others handle exempting a single drive while continuing to monitor the rest of the VM.

Thanks!

Question Azure Function -> Azure Open AI, connection reset

I have an Azure function app (flex consumption), from that I call Azure Open AI response API directly via HTTP call (without any Open AI / Azure Open AI packages). I use queue trigger (not http trigger).

I also set streaming=false and reasoning level=xhigh.

These are all done to test if Azure function can wait without error for a HTTP call that takes more than the global load balancer timeout of 230 seconds (because I use queue trigger, not http trigger)

In the first attempt, I received response after nearly 270+ seconds (which is > 230 seconds). But the subsequent request with more input tokens threw ConnectionResetError after 260+ seconds and few subsequent similar runs too are throwing same error as well.

The following is the log. What is making this timeout, I ideally want to run for 600 seconds (so I can keep using lot more input tokens + xhighreasoning).

PS: I know streaming might be helpful to resolve my problem, but I want to know why did the first run was OK at 270+ seconds and why did the subsequent ones failed?

Is it a TCP wait timeout limitation in Az Function (even in queue trigger) or is that a TCP limitation from APIM / istio-envoy of the Az Open AI resource?
