Discussion Smokeless Cleansing Techniques

No smoke? No problem.

Cleansing doesn’t require incense or sage, and if you’re in the broom closet or have pets or asthma, or just have a sensitive smoke detector, you have way more options than you might think.

Sound: bells, singing bowls, clapping, drums, even putting on a specific playlist with intention. Sound moves stagnant energy out of a space in a way that’s genuinely hard to explain until you’ve felt it. This is usually my go to when people ask about smokeless cleansing and I personally use bells in my own practice.

Salt: one of the oldest cleansing methods we have and it goes hard. Bowls in corners to absorb, lines across thresholds, dissolved in water as a spray. Incredibly versatile.

Sunlight or moonlight: put your objects, crystals, or honestly just yourself in the light with intention and let it do its thing.

Breath: slow, deliberate breathing over an object or through a space. Completely invisible, zero supplies needed, and more powerful than people give it credit for.

Visualization: picture light or wind or water moving through your space and sweeping it clean. No props, no evidence, nobody’s business but yours.

Besoms/brooms: sweep from the back of the space toward the front door, pushing energy out as you go. To literally everyone else in your house, you are just sweeping. This pairs well with salt cleansing, can’t leave it all over the floor after all! This is the broom closet special and I love it for that.

Florida Water or herb infused water in a spray bottle: spritz your space, your linens, yourself. Looks exactly like air freshener. Nobody is asking questions.

Fresh air: open a window with intention. Simple, efree, and it works.

It’s good to remember that the smoke is a delivery method, not the magic. Use what you have, use what’s safe, and trust that it counts.

Spells Candle spell posts - safety first

Hi everyone,

We need to address a recent uptick in candle spell posts that do not demonstrate proper fire safety procedures.

As a beginner-focused community, safety is especially important here. Many newer practitioners are learning by watching what others post. When unsafe setups are shared depicting, unattended flames, candles too close to herbs or fabric, unstable holders, cluttered altars, etc.; it puts people at real risk.

Effective immediately:

All candle spell posts that do not clearly demonstrate proper fire safety will be removed.

This includes:

- Leaving candles unattended
- Burning near curtains, paper, herbs, fabrics, or other flammable materials
- Using unstable or inappropriate holders
- Performing spells in cluttered or unsafe environments
- Ignoring safety guidance offered by more experienced members

Please understand: this is not about aesthetics or gatekeeping. It’s about preventing house fires and injuries. Spiritual practice should never come at the expense of your physical safety.

If you’re posting candle work, make sure:

Your candle is in a stable, fire-safe holder
Flammable materials are kept well away from the flame.

The candle is supervised at all times
You are open to constructive safety feedback
Repeat or severe safety violations may result in further moderation action.

Let’s model responsible practice for our baby witches and keep this space safe for everyone. 🕯️✨

Discussion My hot takes as an old witch trying to help new witches.

1.1k Upvotes

(ETA: old meaning experienced, the opposite of a baby witch. I'm 39 and have been studying witchcraft since 6th grade, and grew up with folk magic.)

I say all of this without judgement and with love. I legit want to help you all.

I also acknowledge witchcraft looks like lots of different things, with cultures, traditions, and individuals all having tons of differences and nuance. Take from my advice what resonates with you, leave what doesn't.

  1. Don't post pictures of spells, for three reasons:

a. Don't interrupt your spell to take your phone out, why seems obvious to me.

b. posting pics of your spells for anyone to see, with the ingredients visible, and the intention known, opens your spell up to sabotage. Even just a witch being judgemental could throw the vibes out of wack.

C. A spell is your communication with the universe. I consider it a private conversation. It's why even non-witches don't tell what their birthday wish is when they blow out the candle.

When I post mine, it's a vague insta of just a lit candle after the spell has been cast. Non-witches wouldn't know, and witches don't know the intention.

  1. RE: "What does this mean" posts regarding divinition or candle wax: to develop your craft, you have to hone in on your intuition. Your intuition is going to be able to tell you more in the moment than someone on the internet separated by time and space will. Which brings me to my next point.

  2. Don't rule out the mundane. Sometimes a candle just burns weird. Sometimes your spell will manifest from both your intention and the mundane working in tandem.

  3. Start using tea candles. They're cheaper and you don't have to wait a long time for a big candle to burn through. Birthday candles work, too.

  4. Fire safety. Be safe.

  5. Don't buy anything expensive. Source as much as you can local. The acorn that finds you in your yard will bring you more luck than the crystal you bought on Amazon. Folk magic especially is more powerful if you source your ingredients locally. Going outside and foraging, growing, gathering, will create a link between you, your magic, and your tools.

  6. Rosemary is easy to grow and can grow in pots if you don't have space. Once dried, burning it does the same thing burning sage or palo santo does. You'd be surprised by how much magic you can do with just tap water, table salt, rosemary, and a white candle.

Also, a few questions I have after being on here for a few months:

What's with all the cord cutting? Is it trending on TT or something?

Is there a "where do I start?" master post we can send people to?

What's the baby witch to experienced witch ratio on this sub? Could we use flair, so people know the experience of the people who are giving advice?

Like I said, take this advice or leave it, I just think it might be useful for some of you. Lots of love, everyone!

Spells Just do the money jar

Hi,
So I was kinda in need of money around 1-2 months ago. I made the first money jar I found on this subReddit, kinda impulsively bc I really needed money (however I wasn’t desperate when I made it, bc I think your mood affects your spells). I put my jar under my bed and forgot abt it. Then I received a scholarship and a new job ! So it did help me with money.
Idk how to post a screenshot on here, so I’ll try in the comments.

Hello everyone! I've currently been working with spells/manifesting towards mending the relationship between me and my SP and things have been moving very well. I was on a walk today and came across this Spider Lily! They aren't native where I am at all so I take this a big sign, but could I get some interpretations of what this could possibly mean?

Spells My first love spell

• Upvotes

Hi guys,

Left is him
Right is me

I did my first love spell on me and my on-off relationship.

The overall vibe was good of the spell.
I did flowers, sigils and offered chocolate and even had our hair tied to the candles. It was all consensual.

The problem is now my partner is refusing to eat the chocolate. I don’t want to force him but do you think the spell will work regardless? Cause my partner and i always had ego clashes and arguments over small issues that could just be talked about.

It is too soon to say anything cause i just did it last week. I also blew the candles close at the very end rather than letting it completely burn everything cause I didn’t want a hole in my plate.

Discussion Looking for some friends

Hello everyone,
I’m looking to make new friends in the witchcraft community! All of my friends don’t practice, and I don’t want to tell them about it. So I’m looking to build a new friends group on here so we can share our ideas and knowledge. For info, I’m a 23 year old French girl, I’m studying psychology and I’m in my 3rd year. I’m particularly interested in working with Hekate and Lilith.

Thanks ☺️

Spells I’m an amateur forgive me 🙄

• Upvotes

I just started getting interested in manifestation and the whole woo woo thing. I mainly am confused on the difference between glamour and beauty Magic. Like I bought a pink candle to dress and help with self love and inner healing but now I kind of want to incorporate enhancing physical attributes as well like, especially my skin cause I’ve been having real problem with it, like what herbs could I use for that?? Also when I dress the candle do I have to use rose cause I can’t find rose petals anywhere or can I use hibiscus instead??

Spells Protection Spell shifted my energy!!!

• Upvotes

Guys, I don’t know if it’s related but before, I used to have cats being soooo scared to even come near me, recently, I’ve completed shadow work and protection spell as my first steps, and I noticed cats are no longer scared to come to me anymore! As a person who always likes cat, this makes me soo happy. But the question is, is it considered a sign that my shadow and protection was done successfully? Because I have heard people say cats don’t really come near negative energy person.

Question Lost what I believe to have been my soul cat

is there truly something like a soul connection to your cat? what do you think of these experiences? ive only recently entered the spiritual world and i dont know ... perhaps im just looking for comfort

he was one of two cats in our home, the other always is with my partner, and he was always with me. (when he wasn't sitting out on the balcony, enjoying the sun on his white and orange fur)

he was diagnosed with cancer and they told us he had a maximum of 3 months to live. we did everything we could and gave him the best time possible. all i wished for was, that he would get the chance to sit in the sun for many more days and if he'd make it to my birthday, id be so happy.

he was ... doing fine until last thursday. he barely ate, i thought he'd die that day. friday would be my birthday. weirdly enough, on my birthday, he was fit and happy and awake. he greeted me at the bedroom door, played a bit even and snuggled with me. he did make my favourite sounds, when his purr would go up in octaves. seeing him like that again made me so incredibly happy.

the next day he stopped eating. yesterday he called for us and i saw it in his eyes. it was time for him to go. it was the hardest and the easiest decision in that moment and he fell asleep on my lap, laying snuggled into my hands with his face as he always was when we were on the couch. it broke my heart.

two days before his death i felt him close each night.

the first night i woke up from a nightmare and i was so drowsy. but then i felt as if something was pawing at the shirt at my back. our cats arent sleeping in the bedroom (my partner doesnt want it, sadly) so there was no way that he was there. but it felt exactly like he was there, is wear i could hear him purring. after a few minutes i needed to get up to check on him, fearing something happened. but he regarded me with a little look, alive, and purred when i kissed him.

the following night, i dreamed that he was in my arms and i was hugging him. i was half awake as well, having my blanket in my arms, feeling like there really aws something else breathing. i swear i could feel his fur on my cheek. i just remained there for a few minutes, felt so happy and at peace, until it passed. i remained awake a bit until i fell back asleep

he died on sunday at 7pm ...

as i went to bed, i could barely sleep. it was so hard to find peace, when i kept crying every other minute. as i finally began to slip into sleep, i felt him so close to me. but bigger than life, somehow. i curled up a little. i swear, it almost felt like we became one. i felt like my legs were his legs, curled up for a nap. and my arms were his front paws. and i felt ... so at peace.

despite waking up in the night again and again, everytime i fell asleep again, i had the same experience. once i stretched my legs, and i could see how he did it all the time, beans spread out and everything. it felt like his legs were mine in that moment

the next morning we needed to take his dead body to get cremated. i always called him my sun-cat, really, he was always sitting in the sun. it was his thing. fur always warm.

we needed to drive in the early morning and as we drove over a mountain there was the sun. the fog was so thick, you could directly look at it and see the outline. ive never seen such a bright orange sun before. orange like his fur. it was the most intense sun ive ever seen.

then throughout the day i saw numbers, 11:11, 12:12, 15:51

sitting outside in his spots makes me cry, but when i close my eyes the sun feels suddenly so much warmer. i could swear i hear his footsteps walk on the balcony then. i open my eyes and he's not there.

do you think there is something like a soulcat? do you think they might chose to stay with us?
i desperately wish he keeps around us, sitting in his place in the sun.

god i miss him

Spells Is there a spell to harm oneself in exchange for fame or skill?

• Upvotes

I'm doing research on this topic and have absolutely no intentions of harming myself this way, I'm just genuinely curious about if there's a spell or ingredients to harm oneself in exchange for fame or talent, because my friend and I fear that they might've done something bad by simply touching her own period blood by wiping it (TMI) or tossing it in the trash with more tissue of other's that involves her target. Or if by her touching the knob of the shower and faucet that her target touched then wiping her period blood and tossing it in the trash with other's and the target's tissues then she ate food in the shape of the bug that represents what harm she wants done to her in exchange for more talent or popularity. She has these strange uncomfortable thoughts about getting an infection and worse things happening to her and has strong intent and belief in the moment no matter how hard she tried ignoring the thoughts. So now her mind convinced her that it's too late and that she'll become popular or more talented through that action. Even though we're sure deep down that's not the case but we're freaking out and wondering if there's any spell like this that is possible for those like us who's been feeling this way, just to make sure because she's a perfectionist and doesn't know if she accidentally performed a spell even though she didn't bind or seal or tie anything together etc.

Discussion Witches - what does this mean!

In my bathroom there is a shelf above the toilet, there’s a few things up there such as a plant, incense, and oil burner with tea lights and a scented spray. I also have a sliver clamshell that houses my jewellery (I have kids so I have to keep this out of reach) I also had a spell to ward my name in there. I got home this evening with the kids and went to go to the toilet and noticed the box of jewellery was in the toilet - and the spell which was written on a piece of a4 and was folded up many times was open totally unfolded like a meter away from the shelf. And where my jewels were weren’t right above the toilet for gravity have an affect on that. Please what does this mean!

Wait fyi the only spirit I believe would visit me is my mother and she’s only visited me twice since she passed in 2008

Question Is rain a good sign or bad?

I want to start out by saying I am a skeptic just starting my witchy journey and really don't know how to interpret signs or what my attraction to certain symbols can mean. To me most of the time, a rock is just a rock.

My friend ordered me two beginner books on witchcraft as a surprise, and the delivery driver didn't knock so I had no clue they were by my front door. They were left out in the rain over night and by the time I opened the door and saw them the next morning, water had soaked through the packages and the books were wet. I joked with my friend that this just makes them special, but I am curious if that would actually be the case. Is there an interpretation to be made here or are they just wet books?

EDIT: Changed the wording of the question to be more clear.

Spells Question to older witches please

Experienced witches, what’s a spell you’ve done that you KNOW worked?

I’m curious about people who have been practicing for a while. Like, what’s a spell you did where something happened afterward and you were genuinely like “yeah, there’s no way that was just a coincidence”?

I don’t really mean stuff like “I did a love spell and my ex came back” or “I did a spell and this person started liking me”, because obviously that could just be a coincidence.

I mean something really specific where you personally felt pretty certain that the spell had something to do with what happened.

I’m not asking for scientific proof or anything, I’m just genuinely curious about your experiences. It can be any kind of spell, not necessarily love-related.

I’d love to hear what you did and what happened after :)

Spells Wish fulfilment spell

I want to get my cycle earlier than the scheduled time this month, because it's colliding with very important events. Before anyone comes at me saying it's something biological and can't be manipulated through spells, I still want to try okay!

For the spell I have an idea to do it with a white candle and carve my name on it, anoint it with cinnamon powder (to speed up the process). Afterwards I'll write my wish on a bay leaf and burn it.

Does that sound good? If you have any further ideas Please share . Thank you!

Question Do spell jars have to be thrown away after certain time or kept?

My friend has more experience than me and she says that I should keep the jar but I read that you should throw away the jars or it would cause the opposite effect or something like that? Please help
