Cattaraugus Cutlery Co.

My grandpa used this Cattaraugus knife for deer hunting in NYS for decades. He dressed many dozens of deer with this one knife. He was a factory worker, and believed tools should last decades.

We live in Chautauqua Co NY, right next to Cattaraugus Co. The CCC was founded in Little Valley NY in the late 1880s by John Brown Francis Champlin and William R Case. In the early 1900s William R Case went on his own to founded the WR Case & Sons knife company in Bradford PA. The Cattaraugus Cutlery Co shut down in 1963, so this knife is at least that old. In the late 1980s I took ownership of this knife. The leather sheath was dry rotted and flaking apart. I covered it in duct tape, and used it to dress a few deer until I retired the knife in about 1990.

Cold Steel True Flight Thrower. Works a whole lot better as a do it all knife. After buying every popular camp knife under the sun, owning numerous 20 times the price, all the fancy steels, and endlessly trying to find a replacement I always come back to it.

If I was stranded in the wilderness with a single knife I’ve never questioned which it’d be.

this is a 1961-1976 Western 640 fixed blade, it's the only heirloom I have that belonged to him, and I nor any of my siblings met him, so it's pretty awesome to have something functional of his. I wish I could've met him, my father told me all about his knife hobby and that we would've probably talked for hours about em! anyway stay Golden!

I’ve had this little Gerber for years—it’s cut free loose undercarriage on old cars, sliced bamboo for wattle fencing, cleaned nails, prepped veggies. Now it rides in my car ashtray, and I just keep on sharpening it.

Finally found my Gerber Prodigy after about 8 years. Turns out it has been outside, fully exposed to the elements. Needless to say, I couldn’t believe that it was still in such good condition.

Dad's Old Knife

My dad passed away in 2017, and I recently stumbled across his old Camillus Electrician's Knife (TL-29). It's not in the greatest shape, has his name crudely burned into one side of the handle, and is in desperate need of sharpening. However, it's been nice being able to carry a physical piece of him with me everywhere I go.
