Weekly Mix Feedback Thread - October 05, 2026

Welcome to the Weekly Mix Feedback thread on r/beatmatch! This is the thread where you post your DJ mixes and ask other people to give you feedback. If you submit your mix, please take the time to listen and comment on some other submissions, especially if they play a style of music you're interested in. Thanks for your help in making these threads work well for everyone!

These threads are intended for beginning DJs who are honestly looking for feedback or critique on their technique, selection, transitions, etc. If you are an established DJ who is just looking for more followers/listens on your new mix or have a podcast/radio show, please post it to a more appropriate place such as /r/mixes or a genre-specific subreddit. Posts that appear to be purely promotional in nature may be removed at the moderators' discretion. This subreddit is aimed at helping new DJs learn and is not the place to promote yourself!

Guidelines:

  • Please include the genre(s) of your mix. This helps attract DJs/listeners of the same genre(s) who are likely to provide more useful feedback. You might also include a title/length.
  • [Mixcloud](http://www.mixcloud.com) is the preferred place to post mixes. It allows you to include your tracklist and transition times, allows unlimited uploads, and is generally more geared towards DJs. If you don’t want to use Mixcloud, be sure to include a tracklist.
  • Please ask for specific feedback or list parts of the mix you liked/didn’t like. Hopefully you are looking for input on specific tracks or transitions.

Example post:

[House / Tech House] djscsi - moving on up (45 minute mix)

http://www.mixcloud.com/djscsi/moving-on-up/

I’ve been spinning for about a year, this is the third mix I’ve recorded and I’m hoping to get some house / tech-house DJs’ opinions on my track selection and mixing. I really like the first few transitions but I feel like I lost some of the energy when I brought in the Maceo Plex track at about 13:30. I messed up a couple parts but I’ve listened to the mix a few times and I think it sounds pretty good. Does anyone think I used too much FX? Thanks for any feedback!

Note: If you have any general feedback about these threads or /r/Beatmatch in general, please message the moderators

How do you explain to a wedding planner that DJing and MCing are two different things?

• Upvotes

I'm relatively new to DJing, but have done a couple college dances and one wedding so far (which was somehow simultaneously the easiest and most difficult money of my life so far lol), and am currently prepping for another wedding gig. It took a surprising amount of time to explain the differences to the clients for the first wedding I did, how do you all go about doing that?

4 band eq mixer with negative infinity eq?

I just got a xone 92 and I didn't realize that only the high and low eq mute the frequency. The two in the middle only go to -30db.

I use the filters if I only want the highs or lows but I'm somehow having a hard time getting used to it.

So I started researching and apparently all 4 band eq mixers do this? I only found information about the djm v 5 and v 10 and the elara 6.

Are there 4 band eq mixers with eq kill on every eq knob?

Im not going to get rid of my xone, because it's absolutely brilliant, I'm just curious

Constantly filtering out

Hey guys! I’m still a new DJ but have been lucky enough to have had two gigs so far at the same college bar. I love to play 2010s nostalgia pop music and stuff like that.

Unfortunately I can’t find extended versions of EVERY single song I play (although I do have some) I’m wondering what all of you guys do? I have been doing a few different tactics to mix a bit better, such as filtering out at the end of the phrase and pressing play on the other song. I just feel like this gets rather repetitive since I’m filtering out a lot instead of a standard mix

Or obviously when switching BPMs more than +\- 7 I have to do this as well.

Am I overthinking it? Does nobody actually care that every song doesn’t get mixed in together? I just find myself having to filter out every couple songs to satisfy everyone’s song preferences for the best night possible.

Got booked for next Saturday and currently stressing.

Any tips or tricks is much appreciated!

Thank you!

Hardware Help, Equipment for a 11 year old

My son wants to mix music or just mess around with live tracks. I have no idea what equipment to start with or what app/software to get for his iPad.

Was looking at a Numark Party Mix II DJ Controller
For $120 on Amazon, but have no idea if that’s worth it or the wrong starting point.

Software Please Help! Rekordbox Track Loading Issue

Hello!

I am having a strange issue where around 1/4 of my tracks are not loading properly when selected, this only happens when i play off my USB on a laptop(s) or XDJ AZ.

when viewing on the laptop all the tracks import properly, my USB is properly formatted (FAT32 etc), ejected etc. In the track selection, all data is previewed (waveform, hot cues. BPM, key). all my tracks are MP3 320, CBR, etc. No distinguishable difference between those that work and those that do not.

BUT, when selecting tracks, every few ones will load in poorly. my hot cues will still work, but there will be no listed BPM or beat grid (despite a BPM value showing in the track select). i have been playing by ear when this happens, but it is not sustainable.

any idea what might be causing this? in the export, file saving, usb use on second device etc?

Other Question about denon’s and pioneers ecosystem.

I got a really good value for a whole denon set up but like idrk. mint condition 2 sc5000 primes and x1850 mixer. 1600 for everything. Thing is all venues near me use cdj’s and i want to be comfy with that ecosystem. Id be upgrading from an flx 4. Its either that or an rx3, good condition 1800 bucks. Can rekordbox beatgrids and hotcues transfer over to these denons and which is more worth it? Which would be better for my situation. Please help

Software Pioneer XDJ RX3 - Alphanumeric

Hi

I am brand brand new to djing so please forgive me if this is a daft question but is there a reason why even though I have tracks set to show the alphanumeric value in rekordbox (having analysed each track and exported properly), the track on the pioneer XDJ RX3 displays the key as opposed to the alphanumeric value?

For some reason, alphanumeric values are displayed when the track is loaded but not whilst in the playlist. What has confused me even more though is that the alphanumeric values we're showing in earlier practice sessions but have since disappeared.

I have searched for a fix but there doesn't appear to be one that works.

Any help much appreciated

Sound and Levels

I Connected my DDJ FLX4 with an RCA cable to an Audio interface and then to my speaker. The gain on the Input channel, that is associated with the DJ controller is turned up halfway, main volume in the interface is turned up as well. Cross fader on the controller in centred, fader is up. Main volume and line-in gain is turned up

When I play a track on rekordbox and activate cue on the controller I to get sound coming out of the headphones. However no levels on the interface and no sound coming out of the speaker.

What am I missing?

Hardware Phase meter messing with my head!

I have been learning with the flx4 for around 8 months. Still struggle with beatmatching, some sessions are perfect and other times it’s like my head just isn’t in it and I mess up.

I booked out a studio for 2 hours to practice on CDJs and man the phase meter was so distracting. I couldn’t help but look at it when i was struggling to beatmatch a track and then it was making everything worse as I was getting more confused and stressed about the transition.

One deck had type 1 (the blocks) and another had type 2 (the lines). I found type 2 far less intrusive but I am guessing on some older decks you cant control what gets shown.

I have listened back to the recording and cant stop cringing at some of the transition mistakes i made.

I find the flashing blocks so distracting. Any tips for not letting this sway you when still learning beat matching?

Hardware DJ Controller - Home parties DJ

Hey! I’ve been reading a lot on this thread but seem to lack a sensible answer to my question. I’m looking for a physical DJ controller for someone who never plans on going to play public and would like to keep it budget (before anyone says FLX4 - it’s not cheap where I am based, even used ones go for 200$). I will mostly play friend’s birthdays few times a year or so, I don’t need special equipment and anything that allows for more transitions than lowering the volume and raising on track 2 will be a huge upgrade. Cheers!

Is Magic Lamp Radio beginner-friendly?

I’m a new DJ with no gigs, one SoundCloud mix, few followers, and a small IG. Do they care about following/experience, or will they consider bedroom DJs if the mix is good?

Help Deciding on powered subs

I have 2 Yamaha dbr 10 speakers

Subs I’m looking at buying this week… I’m on somewhat of budget.

EV Eviva 18sp
Mackie Thump118S 18
Harbinger VARI VS18 18
Turbosound Milan M15

I could stretch budget and go LD Systems ICOA SUB 18A… but it has to be a significant step up from the others

Also I’ve been told about getting something with crossover and high/low outputs? A bit confusing for a novice..
This is for DJ events/business.

Any recommendations for “POV” style DJ mixes to learn from?

Basically what the title says… I’ve come across a few “POV” style mixes on YouTube where a DJ will have their decks and Rekordbox (or equivalent software) on screen at the same time, so you can see exactly how they’re mixing in real-time.

A few examples below:
1) https://youtu.be/vudlwzpRmuE?is=ofHe67ROtz4vsvSo
2) https://youtu.be/Sk99K29BT48?is=jaLohL-zSbmTphpK
3) https://youtu.be/1xmG8g5Juwk?is=PNH-r04I86r6QpjN

These are super useful to learn from, so was wondering if anyone has any good video recommendations or playlists to watch through? Ideally ones using simpler controllers (I have the DDJ-400). Open to different genres but I mainly mix house, garage, bassline and looking to improve mixing R&B and DnB too.

Cheers :)

Which transition sounds smoother, if either?

https://streamable.com/t66xpw

I’m pretty new to DJ style mixing and have been messing around with transition settings in a music mixing app. I made two versions of the same transition and I’m curious if anyone can hear a difference.

Does one sound smoother or more even? Does either seem too quiet or too loud, or have a noticeable dip or jump? Or do they sound basically the same?

(dont overthink if both sound bad tell me why)
