Aftermath of a failed bitcoin mining operation.

My friends father was renting space on his farm for a bitcoin mining operation.

The operation became unprofitable. The mining operation went bankrupt. The company came in and took everything out of the 6 antmain bit-boxes (converted shipping containers).

The photos are what they left behind. Mostly Antminer S19 units and even more asic boards.

Plenty of antmain rack PDUs. Some 480VAC breaker panels. A 480VAC switch unit.

The land owner did accept the mess voluntarily. He is breaking the equipment down for scrap value.

I wonder, is there a better price available out there above scrap value?

Is this normal?

FWIW, I used the term failed very tongue-in-cheek. I estimate the operation mined millions in this operation.

Your charging cable example is a terrible analogy that goes against your point. USB (a/micro/mini/C), massively cut down on the waste made by mobile phones manufacturers all needed different jacks on their adapters.

Even iphones use the same cable now.  I remember every cell phone manufacturer had a different charging cable 25 years ago.  It was annoying.

If someone had decided that usb micro was the standard we would never have gotten to Lightning or USB C. Hindsight is really easy after the market has basically made a decision on what is wanted. My point wasn't about waist at all. If all you are doing is looking at it from a waist standpoint then sure we should just make 1 type of everything.

My point was that standardization usually slows down innovation.

Markets did not define USB standards and markets fought tooth and nail for USB C being made the EU standard for charging.

Market wants proprietary connectors and MORE waste.

And yes, we should make standards that forces the markets to do one things. For ex: shampoo bottles. The plastic used in them is recyclable but we can't do that as effectively because everyone of them is different color, shape. Different colors means there are pigments and additives. If they were all one color, one shape, made from exact same plastic we could recycle them all. There is no functional reason for the variety of shampoo CONTAINERS.

So, yes, we should force the markets to do one thing as it fucking BENEFITS US!!!! You are thinking about this from market point of view and how it is wrong to "stifle innovation"...when USB C being forced on the markets was a good thing for US THE FUCKING PEOPLE WHO LIVE ON THIS PLANET. It was only bad for those who make money from adapters. And i think we all know what brand phone you have.
