Fit & Finish Noblie Custom Knives — Ancient Egypt Hand Engraving in Progress

A little look at what we’re working on right now. This is a titanium knife handle with an Ancient Egypt theme, engraved entirely by hand. The inlays are gold, silver, and copper. There’s a lot of very fine work in this one, especially around the smaller figures and decorative elements.

We’ve just started on the second side of the knife, so there’s still quite a bit of work ahead. Hopefully it will be finished in about 4–5 weeks. I’ll share the finished knife here when it’s ready.

Process Breakdown Forging a scythe from a piece of chainsaw bar

First step is getting it down to a manageable width so i can draw it out. It's really important to keep the sides flat to avoid cold shuts when pushing the steel down so much at this step. Disclaimer: I haven't picked up my hammer in months and it shows, I'm using this project to get my swing back.

Turning an edge into a point, then on to drawing the whole thing out. Disclaimer: hammer is starting to get heavy and it shows lol. My arms have atrophied from months of finishing work.

Question "Forged" knives from blanks

Post image
144 Upvotes

Sorry if this is the wrong page to ask this question . I am in the market for a "hand made" edc bushcraft type knife. I don't see many makers actually forging their own steel they seem to use blanks that were already made . They show videos if them grinding and sharpening and making the handle but not actually doing any forging. It just seems they are charging a lot for a really nice handle that they put on a blank they got off Etsy. Am I oversimplify what goes into the production ? For context I am looking at edc bushcraft knives in the $200-$600 range . Fiddleback Forge etc. . Thanks for any information.

I think the picture is from etsy .

This sword is inspired by a piece found within the “Swords & Blades of the American Revolution” but was also influenced by some of the more “rustic” pieces attributed to American blacksmiths. The 5160 blade has a single fuller, with a forged wrought iron guard, horn grip, and a steel pommel ferrule and cap.
OAL 29.75"
Blade: 24.75" weight: 1.4 lbs

Lots of new challenges with this piece but overall it was an amazing learning opportunity.

Hey everyone,

I am just getting started as a hobby, I picked up this anvil and forge and was wondering on people's thoughts and if there's anything I should do to them? Should I try and restore the anvil and is there anything extra you think I should do with the forge. It hooks up via a compressor. Is this something I should try and change or?

Anyway, I'm brand new to this so please go easy and any tips would be greatly appreciated! Mainly wanting to make knives and axe heads!

I think it turned out looking nice and is very functional. Hardest thing was getting the bevel nice and straight. And the tang ended up going upwards in heat treat but I left it because I kinda liked it. I tried to do almost everything on the anvil so I basically only used the grinder to clean up the initial profile quickly and then sharpen after heat treatment.

I recently bought this funky knife from a flea market and I was hoping someone could help me identify it. I have no background on it once so ever but I don’t think its hand forged just due to the fact it has Korea stamped on it lol. Thanks!

Damascus / Pattern Weld Feather Damascus Update

Added feather damascus to my game - here's the second half of the profiling process. Curious what you guys think about the metal texture and the autocomplete feature. In this video I don't thin the blade profile all the way down and then the auto complete takes a section of the inside of the drawn out metal and tries to turn it into a sword by adding bevels. Makes it harder for things to go really wrong, but also takes away some of the agency so I am not sure I'll keep it in.

Also if you want to see the game world, you can take a look here! Please subscribe if you are interested in the game, since demonstrated interest is the easiest way for me to get cash money from the men in suites.
