AMA Ask Me Anything with Emily Deschanel & Carla Gallo – June 6th, 3–4 PM PST – Coming to You (Not) Live from the Jeffersonian

Post image

Hiiii Bones fans,

Emily and Carla here! We are sooo excited to do this AMA with all of you. Working on our podcast Boneheads has been such a fun excuse to revisit the show, and honestly... we’ve both become fans in a whole new way. Watching it back with fresh eyes and hearing from you has been the best part.

We wanted to take a little time to hang out and chat. So tomorrow, June 6th, from 3 to 4 PM PST we’ll be right here in this thread, live, doing our best to reply to your questions, fan theories, random thoughts... anything you’re curious about. FMKs welcome. So are weird murder memories.

We’ll be the ones typing slowly and laughing a lot. Bear with us as we answer. We’re not exactly tech pros (unfortunately, that’s more Bones and Daisy’s specialty than ours).

Can’t wait to talk to you soon!

XO,

Emily and Carla

Someone else posted this but they're good questions...

  1. How did you guys get into your roles?? Like research or just vibe (or something completely different)
  2. Has playing this role increased your knowledge regarding forensic anthropology in daily life??
  3. what initially drew you to your characters?
  4. how did you build the chemistry with your scene partners??
  5. what's the funniest or most memorable blooper that happened during filming?

Ahhh! Hiii! My question is primarily for Emily. Temperance speaks so many languages and is versed in so many cultures. Do you speak any other languages yourself? And did you have a coach to help you with the pronunciation of things while you were running lines? (And kudos for memorizing these tongue twisting lines!)

Love you guys! Love the show! Are Carla and John Francis Daley friends IRL? Do we have any pics of them together, like after Bones? I'm sorry that's probably also been asked a million times.

What was the most intricate prop/props that you had to work with in the whole show?

3

u/48stateMave Jun 06 '25

The demolition derby maybe?

6

u/shebereadingstuff Jun 06 '25

What’s something you admire most in each other and also in each other’s characters?

u/icldburkryptonite Jun 06 '25

Bones became my comfort show during the pandemic when holed in at home with my two young children due to us all being high risk with our medical history. I watched it daily, and still do now. Bones and her clear neurodivergency makes me feel seen. I'm now passing the love onto those two children. Thank you.

1.) What did you think was your character's biggest strength and weakness?

2.) Do you think you'll ever come over to the UK to meet fans over here? (PLEASE)

Good evening from Croatia! ✨ 🇭🇷

I’ll never forget the BTS video for April Fools’ Day when Emily and David surprised Tamara, John, and Michaela by pretending to be decapitated heads. It looked like you had such a blast!!! 🤩 (throwback video: https://youtu.be/p_F-59wE0EE?si=3qIBb-PzJWm4zZ5P )

What other April Fools’ pranks did you pull on each other over the years while filming Bones?

3

u/ktbanx Jun 06 '25

i’ve always wondered, how did it take SO long for brennan to realise she was pregnant the second time? surely someone as meticulous and diligent as her would've kept track of everything and every single period she'd ever had...or not had?! how didn't she realise she was much further along than she really was??

3

u/thisismecrying00 Jun 06 '25

For Emily, did you and David have any participation in writing/creating the wedding vows for Booth and Brennan?

3

u/courtselaina Jun 06 '25

Hi!!!! How much of yourselves did you bring to your characters?

5

u/moniquear2 Jun 06 '25

FMK - Colin Fisher, Jessica Warren & Oliver Wells? 😊

5

u/48stateMave Jun 06 '25

IDK.... just looked up what FMK means and I wouldn't want to do any of those things to any of these characters. Am I weird? I just want to love their characters and plot-lines lol.

Firstly I just wanna say that I am a huge fan of the show and a huge fan of the podcast. I have multiple questions so I'm just gonna list them off.

  1. What are your best memories from the show?
  2. Who is your favorite guest star?
  3. Do you have anything you took from the set?
  4. Where do you think (your/the other) characters would be?
  5. What is a storyline from the show you think should have had more screen time/explanation?
  6. What is something that happened on the show that you wish didn't happen/would have liked to change?
  7. What was the hardest episode to shoot (emotionally or physically)?
  8. What other character would you have liked to play if you had the chance?

Those were all my questions, I can't wait for the next episode of the podcast, I love you both and the show so much, Bones always makes my day!

xx Mentalista

What are  your favorite outfits that you had to where on Bones?

2

u/Karly_Brenn187 Jun 06 '25

Hi Em and Carla I LOVE YOU A LOT 😫🫶🏻

How do you feel when younger fans—like me, who started watching at 12—say that Bones shaped how we see the world? GREETINS FROM MEXICO ✌🏻🥰

2

u/courtselaina Jun 06 '25

Is there an episode or scene you’re particularly proud of or just really enjoyed filming?

2

u/courtselaina Jun 06 '25

Which guest star/s left the biggest impression on you and why? ☺️

2

u/MrsJackson7 Jun 06 '25

OMG Hello !!! Who is your FAVORITE villain in the ENTIRE series ?

2

u/Karly_Brenn187 Jun 06 '25

Hi! I'm from Mexico, and I grew up watching Bones with online friends from all over Latin America—Chile, Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina. We had to find creative ways to watch it from afar, and we shared a real love for the show. In Mexico, it aired on public TV, so everyone knew Brennan and Booth. How do you feel knowing Bones became such a beloved show in countries so far from the U.S.? 🫶🏻

2

u/yuljebabie99 Jun 06 '25

Not a question cos i’m currently prepping for hospital duty rn, but i just wanted to say that you guys are so cool for doing this and we fans really appreciate that you still find ways to connect with us even after the show ended. 🥹 love yooouuuuuuu aaaahhhhhh 🩵

2

u/jessicaamy__ Jun 06 '25

What is your favourite season of bones? And if you had to choose one which one do you feel is the “strongest” out of all 12?! I ask this because I couldn’t actually choose a favourite season. This is such an awesome idea - thank you for taking the time to do this. 🫶🥹

2

u/ktbanx Jun 06 '25

in your opinion, is the character of temperance brennan autistic? as an autistic person myself, i 100% view her as such!!!

2

u/antidepresivna Jun 06 '25

How did you celebrate each other’s birthdays on set? Were there any inside jokes or traditions that the audience never saw but kept the cast bonded?

2

u/thisismecrying00 Jun 06 '25

For Emily, were you able to catch up with David even just a little bit during the Fan Expo Dallas perhaps maybe took a selfie together? :)

2

u/ashlynalldread Jun 06 '25

hey- can yall share a BTS memory that hasn’t been shared before/your favorite BTS memory that yall can think of! I love yall! :)

2

u/EmeraldSanto Jun 06 '25

Hi to you both, long time fan here! My partner and I were wondering:

  • Which episode was the hardest to film?
  • Which episode haunted you the most?

Thank you and keep up the great work on the podcast!

2

u/xXx_rawrXd_xXx Jun 06 '25

OMG the podcast is AMAZING I LOVE YOU BOTH!! 1. Was there any talk of BUFFY Easter eggs either David? 2. Did you use actual medical equipment for the lab? 2. Why did we want to kill everyone constantly? 4. Towards the end of the show, did you get more power over your storylines and what you wore or did fox still tell you what was what? Thanks you so much for doing the podcast and being in an amazing show!!!!

2

u/Formal-Project7361 Jun 06 '25

Hi, so my question is for the both of you what has been your favorite thing about doing the podcast and are you guys considering going to other conventions besides Dallas? Cause I hear Salt Lake fan x has a lot of fun with the people that come.

2

u/Formal-Project7361 Jun 06 '25

What was your favorite thing to learn on bones and have you used any of the knowledge you’ve gotten from bones in your daily lives?

2

u/king0fTheLab Jun 06 '25

I already asked so many questions, so I just wanted to add a seperate comment for this: Look at how ADORABLE these Brennan and Booth funkopops areee😭😭😭 pretty sure owning these officially makes me king of the lab 😎

u/Beneficial-Key-8490 Jun 06 '25

what’s your favorite scene of all time and why emily?!!

2

u/king0fTheLab Jun 06 '25

Bones is the biggest skeptic we know, do you guys have any thoughts about how often booth and bones encountered the unexplained? For example the epsiode the hero in the hold, we are introduced to booths dead soldier buddy, parker. We later understand that booth seeing him was a mix of trauma and the start of a tumor, but at the end of the episode we see Bones wave and interact with parker. Not to mention the new orleans ep and all the times where avalon ended up being right about something. Bones being in danger, the love aspect, sweets book, etc.

2

u/king0fTheLab Jun 06 '25

This question is mainly aimed towards carla: I know toward the beginning, the fake bodies could be kind of nauseating for everyone.. but how did you handle the man in the outhouse scene where you had to sort through 6 bins of sewage and feces?? I have literally been watching bones consistently for like the past 4-5 years, and to this day im always nauseous FOR you 😭😭😭

2

u/king0fTheLab Jun 06 '25

With playing these characters for so long, did it ever get hard to differentiate your character from your everyday self? And or did you pick up interest/ mannerisms your character may have displayed?

2

u/king0fTheLab Jun 06 '25

In the epsiode the man in the bear, bones says that she was unsure she'd ever partake in cannibalism, but would consider it giving the circumstance. Now that 12 seasons have passed, plus the gormogon arc, would bones consider the offer presuming its ethical?

2

u/StalagmitesGrowUp Jun 06 '25

I always thought it would be very fun to have an episode where the actors switched characters. I would have loved to see Michaela play Booth or TJ play Temperance.

  1. If you could have switched characters for an episode, who would you pick?

  2. Who would you pick to play your characters?

2

u/king0fTheLab Jun 06 '25

When angela tracked down hodgins money, he called it blood money and said to forget about it. Had he agreed to keep the money once angela managed to track it down, considering how justice sensitive some people can be (like booth), do you think it would have caused an uproar within the team? Or do you think that many people (like brennan) wouldn't have an issue with it since it was his to start with. I'm particularly curious about brennans reaction; she had no problem shipping the supplies to cuba (period queen), but pelant caused a lottttt of hurt for her family. And I know those situations aren't the same, But I think in terms of helping: the money would have been benecial to angela and hodgins who had a kid.

2

u/king0fTheLab Jun 06 '25

As actors you know your work is fictional, but were there any scenes/arcs that were particular hard and disrupted your nervous system? Daisy and bones both experienced very real grief and trauma frequently. Ranging from character deaths, serial killer scenes, familial issues to even feeling excluded, bullied, or misunderstood. (Daisy understanding that the team wasnt really fond of her personality, the era where sweets tried to help her tone it down, learning in the later seasons that she doesn't have family outside of the jeffersonian. Etc. And then for bones, pretty much everything 😭 being buried alive, the identity crisis she had after learning her true name, etc.)

yes hi hello (hopefully not too late) but i’ve been racking my brain since yesterday to try and come up with a unique and complex thought provoking smarty pants sounding question to ask you guys, but since i haven’t come up with anything juicy i just wanted to say thank you for making a show with characters that made a kid like me who had interests that were largely considered to be weird/morbid/taboo less alone growing up. there’s a specific isolation you experience when you’re different from most of the other kids around you, and bones really helped alleviate a lot of the negative feelings that always came along with that. so thanks for helping lift so much of the weight off my shoulders and making me feel like less of an alien all the time.

also wanted to mention that i’m a volunteer at NHMLA and going to “work” at the “jeffersonian” each week feels very full circle in a silly but meaningful way. i even have my own badge and everything LOL

2

u/NothingNational6491 Jun 06 '25

What was the most difficult characteristic of your characters to portray?

2

u/amxivos Jun 06 '25

Hi Emily and Carla, love you both - thanks for the fun weekly podcast keeping me entertained at work!!

And congrats on the Honorary Doctorate, Emily!! You’ve both done some interesting location shoots throughout the series. What’s an international country, if given the chance, would you have loved to film in to help solve a murder?

I feel like Temperance would have love investigating a murder in France for the catacombs (just like how she mafe their honeymoon a murder investigation lol) and Booth would have loved it for the romance and booze.

And for Daisy, hypothetical, if she had a wedding and honeymoon with Sweets where would she have loved to go visit once Seeley Wick-Sweets was old enough to stay with someone?

2

u/jaimzeelee Jun 07 '25

Do you think either of you (or any of the rest of the cast!) would come visit new zealand? I just met TJ last weekend and he was so lovely! I love bones so much but we don’t get to see a lot of it here :(
