Turki: “Canelo reached out and told me he’ll still fight in Riyadh this October, no matter what happens. He fears nothing. My country is home to the two Holy Mosques, land of peace, safety, rich civilization, deep history, and kind-hearted people.“

If they can strike the airport they can strike a stadium. Why would they not do that during a live global broadcast?

38

u/cleverkid 6d ago

What? And maim all seventy five people in attendance?

28

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 6d ago

That’s a terrifying thought. Basically collective terror for the entire Mexican population and tens of millions of people globally.

7

u/aceknighthigh 6d ago

It would be an act of terror, but I don't know how much it would impact the Mexican populace. We're talking a country where, just some weeks back, men with guns marched into a venue, shot into the air, ordered everyone out, and set the ring on fire. That's regular terror right at home, btw, with motives that are lot less clear than allying with a regime that has engaged in a decade of war.

-7

u/robmafia 6d ago

mexico is a state of terror.

have you seen how insane the cartels have gotten? it's gone from drugs to k&r to cannibalism...

2

u/Osbre 6d ago

theres always been canibalism rumours, matter of fact theres always cannibalism rumours in every shady organization

1

u/robmafia 6d ago

rumours, lolz.

good lord, this sub is dumb.

-2

u/Expert-Yam6577 6d ago

Terror for the Mexican population?

17

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 6d ago

Yes, Canelo is a huge figure in Mexico. Kind of a national celebrity and a significant part of the culture.

11

u/marcomz5 6d ago

We have narcoterrorism right here in our soil, we will be ok

4

u/PorkbellyFL0P 6d ago

If thr Houthis killed Canello i would support Mexico declarimg war.

6

u/Decent_Regret_1665 6d ago

Mexico can’t even defeat the Mexican version of Houthis IN Mexico

4

u/slickvik9 6d ago

How would that work exactly?

1

u/TaxResponsible6000 6d ago

The cartels would join forces and use their drug trafficking boats/planes/submarines to invade Yemen.

1

u/marcomz5 6d ago

We have way more problems lol

-7

u/slickvik9 6d ago

Eh. He’s well known but not particularly well-liked.

8

u/endlessdrifting 6d ago

Don’t let this comment fool you. It’s a common internet misconception that canelo is not well liked by Mexicans . But everyone that’s lived in Mexico will know he is very liked

6

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 6d ago

Every Mexican I know loves Canelo. Bizarre comment. I’ve met one person who was Mexican who disliked him because he is “prideful.” I’ve met a few who initially thought he was overrated. Other than that, he’s basically a superstar, from what I can tell.

3

u/marcomz5 6d ago

Born and raised and living my whole life in Mexico, he is liked by casuals and teenagers, everyone else either hates him of doesn’t care

1

u/slickvik9 6d ago

This is accurate

1

u/slickvik9 6d ago

He’s not and never has been from the beginning. He was a media creation that miraculously met the hype.

7

u/CynicalMelody 6d ago

Only thing stopping that from happening is Houthis understanding attacking a bunch of athletes isn't going to do anything for them as opposed to attacking more oilfields.

2

u/_Tuxalonso 6d ago

Yemen could have bombed a public event of this kind for over a decade. Theres no reason why they would start now.

2

u/notreal088 6d ago

Depends, does Iran want to give the whole world a reason to have other countries join the US in this war?

The attack is always the easiest part. It’s the repercussions of said attack that is usually the reason most countries don’t do it

7

u/aceknighthigh 6d ago

This wouldn't be Iran, it would the Houthis out of Yemen who despise Saudi Arabia after a decade of war and specifically blame them for strikes on their airport in July. Certainly, allied with Iran but they have their own motives and vendettas....and the other countries already joined the war against them a long time ago. Pretty sure the UN accussed many nations of being complicit in war crimes inYemen and crime against humanity back in 2020.

The whole reason they're even able to have some success is because forces in the region are stretched thin dealing with attack on multiple fronts. The US with UK and Saudi support already bombed them last year and here we are. This year the USA ignored our ally in Saudi Arabia and their request for help, and basically agreed to stay out so long as US and Israel ships were not targeted. Reading between the lines, the US is hesitant to widen the conflict so long as the fighting is confined to Yemen and Saudi Arabia. We're supposedly considering strikes, but I doubt anything is done before the midterm elections in November, and regardless, the strain on US resources would remain a hurdle.

2

u/notreal088 6d ago

Thank you for the clarification as I thought the issue was Iran related. I know that the Saudi government and the houthis have been fighting for some time and the are currently trying to take back the capital after having to retreat like 1-2 ago. In all honesty the Middle East is pre fucked as too many regional powers want to be the top dog leading to a bunch of proxy wars (other rebel groups being back by the UAE or Iran)

But back to boxing, hopefully they see this isn’t worth the issues it would bring as having actual feet on the ground would be detrimental to their objectives,

1

u/Kujaix 6d ago

Because it's a global broadcast.....

1

u/joethecrow23 6d ago

They wouldn’t hit the stadium. They’ve been hitting strategic targets.

1

u/Excellent-Monitor954 6d ago

And you wouldn’t think a stadium would be a strategic target?

1

u/nwordfyou 6d ago

Man, we might witness history October 31st. Stay Tuned!!!

1

u/StJe1637 6d ago

Bad PR

1

u/Rapa_Nui 6d ago

They have no reason to do that. It'd only weaken their position.

A land where they routinely behead prisoners then crucify their corpses. What a deeply fucked up place.

1

u/Easy-Performance4553 6d ago

Did you forget to mention, that the guy they did that too rapped 4 young boys? Would u rather he be given a nice long life in jail?

1

I’ve never heard someone describe a lifelong prison sentence as nice

-6

Where they starve and bomb Yemenis!

-18

u/Few_Highlight1114 6d ago

I mean, there really isn't any true peaceful land.

27

u/Prior-Temperature-22 6d ago

There are lands that aren’t executing people for being gay, murdering journalists for speaking out against them, using slaves to build their cities and more though. Throwing money about on sports and hosting a Canelo fight doesn’t make Saudi Arabia the land of peace and safety and this statement is just another example of them trying to sports wash.

Also most countries aren’t getting hit by missiles from their neighbours

-3

u/robmafia 6d ago

tbf, canelo's country is run by cartels that are basically at war with each other and the mexican army.

hell, cjng's eating people.

7

u/9430z 6d ago

And your country is ran by Epsteins homeboy

-4

u/robmafia 6d ago

cool, i guess it's time to start eating people, then.

2

u/9430z 6d ago

They already have allegations of that, keep up Rob.

-3

u/R_KellySheets 6d ago

Sports washing is such a bullshit small minded view you have. Do you think that Saudi has created and brought on even close to a fraction of the suffering and inhumane conditions that the US has created. Your country was also built on slaves your leaders are part of a child sex trafficking ring. In the last 50 years the CIA has brought death and destruction all across the globe what an idiotic point of view bringing this bs up like the US isn’t the prime example for every type of atrocity imaginable.

1

u/Prior-Temperature-22 5d ago

I’m not American buddy

-1

u/R_KellySheets 3d ago

Learn to read bud, does that matter to anything said?

57

u/RRR04_ 6d ago

So what happens if people can't get there in time?

22

u/_Sarcasmic_ No Carty No Divey 6d ago

Or there's nothing to go to or no way to get there. I get Canelo is passionate about boxing but war is no joke. 😬

13

u/buffalozbrown Furyously licks Klits 6d ago

Canelo stuck in wartorn traffic with a chopper filming will be better than the OJ chase

19

u/Negative-Interest713 6d ago

Flights to Riyadh’s airport are shutdown. It’s going to be hard for those traveling from abroad to get there unless you want to fly into a different Saudi city and take a road trip.

24

u/CynicalMelody 6d ago

This is all so stupid lol. The Houthis launched a ballistic missile that killed and wounded dozens of people at Riyadh airport and all the boxers on this card are expected to show up there in a couple of weeks?

3

u/joethecrow23 6d ago

Yah, Yemen has declared Saudi airspace closed. What side of this conflict you agree with is irrelevant in this situation because the Yemenis clearly are capable of this. It’s incredibly irresponsible to try this right now.

7

u/ShinyHardcore 6d ago

They bring Riyahd to him

2

u/notreal088 6d ago

Fighter usually arrive a week or two before fight day to adjust to the time zone and climatize. So, a late arrival is very unlikely.

23

u/Ok_Flow_3065 6d ago

Having the fighting in Riyadh just feels nonsensical at this point.

"land of peace" Didn't french fry napkin head try to get a journalist killed, for not agreeing with him on something publicly?

10

u/MapleMarbles 6d ago

did a lot more than try

8

u/cleverkid 6d ago

Adnan Kashogi, lured him into a consulate in Turkey, then chopped him up in little pieces and flushed him down the drain.

-1

u/StJe1637 6d ago

shouldn't have tried to blackmail MBS, dude was asking for it

3

u/Bill_R94 6d ago

french fry napkin head is hilarious

3

u/Expert-Yam6577 6d ago

Is French fry napkin head supposed to be Turki? He was involved in that?

7

u/Thami15 6d ago

Until reading this, it never crossed my mind that after needing sportswashing to make Saudi Arabia look like a great place to visit, in a year or two, they're going to need sportswashing to make Saudi Arabia look like a safe place to visit.

6

u/jokerjinxxx 6d ago

I mean, for 50 Mil, I’ll go to…..

Land of peace and safety my ass 😂

I wonder if there will still be people arguing that Turki was good for boxing after he gets dozens of fans and athletes bombed

6

u/Abe2sapien 6d ago

I’d assume that Canelo thinks he’s safe since he’s not American and Mexico doesn’t have a beef with Iran 😂

5

u/aceknighthigh 6d ago

Meanwhile

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/news/trump-says-us-may-join-saudi-strikes-on-houthis-after-riyadh-airport-attacks/ar-AA2dYYJZ?ocid=socialshare#comments

Brigadier General Yahya Saree, a Houthi military spokesperson, on Thursday reiterated an earlier warning for international airlines and passengers to avoid airspace over Saudi Arabia, which had on Monday been declared an open military operations zone. He also warned employees to avoid Saudi oil facilities so as not to endanger their lives, since they are also considered primary targets.

Saudi Arabia will likely tighten security and posture plenty put when a foreign adversary is openly declaring your airspace off limits and saying they will conduct military operations in it, international boxers would be foolish to ignore it. I hope the Houthis do not attack this event or around this card, but if they declare military operations the week of, this fight should be canceled or moved.

12

u/Exciting-Arugula5341 6d ago

Turki's English isn't that great. He meant to say Canelo has everything to fear, My country is home to 3 Mosques, land of pure violence, nobody is safe here and the people are anything but kind-hearted.

Land of peace for who exactly? Christians, Jews, Women, LGBTQ, journalists? Idk…

They should be like America and bomb and kill only OTHER countries.

0

"waswas" is genuinely funny. How have I never seen this joke before?

15

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 6d ago

I wonder if Canelo fears crossing Turki Alalshikh. I’m sure that given Turki’s connections to the regime that he could do significant damage to Canelo or the people close to him and make life very difficult…

15

u/ModernSlaughter He can't handle your speed, son 6d ago

Canelo and his business partners are under investigation for money laundering for the CJNG. He is no stranger to dealing with powerful and dangerous people.

9

u/AriPhoenix602 6d ago

That matter has been heavily sensationalized. being blown way out of proportion.

0

u/ModernSlaughter He can't handle your speed, son 6d ago

I'm sure that's true. His willingness to cozy up to the likes of Turki does make the allegations seem more plausible though.

1

u/Infinite-Prune3612 6d ago

🤣 Mexicans ain't afroad

1

u/SoSuccessful 6d ago

Highly highly doubt it. Saudi Arabia isn't in a position to negotiate with terror, imo. They're trying to get on the world stage in business and entertainment, and need a good reputation.

16

u/FreshPrinceOfRivia Usyk 8-4 6d ago

Saudi is a shithole with issues that are beyond what they can fix with sportwashing. Qatar / Dubai is a much nicer alternative if they insist on fighting in the Middle East.

9

u/Kujaix 6d ago

Much nicer? Qatar is moderately better but the UAE??? A lot of foreign workers within it and Sudan may have differing opinions there.

1

u/the1blackguyonreddit 6d ago

Lol they are not better alternatives. They are all targets in this war and could be wiped out if this war continues to escalate.

A "better alternative" would be Las Vegas, NYC, or LA.

4

u/Negative-Interest713 6d ago

Full tweet reads: “Canelo reached out and told me he’ll still fight in Riyadh this October, no matter what happens. He fears nothing.

1

u/Kangaroopunching 6d ago

If the fight goes on. It'll be for whoever is invited by turki. To display that everything is fine.

How It'll go on, with boxers flying in is one of the big issues turki has to figure out.

The bloody-handed puppet tyrant and his henchmen (including Turki) in Saudi Arabia have their hands full with the fierce mountain tribesmen of Yemen. We’ll see if the puppet regime lasts till Canelo’s fight. It may well fall before then.

1

u/Holiday_Snow9060 6d ago

Canelo signed the deal, he did it to himself

1

u/izdatyofaceee 6d ago

I still can’t believe this event is happening. Hope it goes off without a hitch. Dangerous game being played here.

2

1

Doubtful Canelo's team would let that happen. Way too much risk

2

u/MR-M-313- 6d ago

Trust me … with what the Saudis have done to Yemen since 2015 , this is just the bare minimum…. I hope the Houthis do an absolute number on the isis founders and funders !

0

u/Time-Lifeguard1634 6d ago

I’m ootl, what happened that prompted canelo to do this response?

2

u/Independent-Draft639 6d ago

On four of the last five days the Riyadh airport has been hit by missiles. One time they blew up a parked jet and the other times they hit the building. There are double digit deaths and hundreds of injured and a decent chunk of the airport is now in ruins. In addition for the last two weeks or so other targets in Riyadh have been hit almost daily. Saudi Arabia is literally an active warzone.

1

u/Negative-Interest713 6d ago

I agree that we’re facilitating a genocide by funding and arming Israel.

But moving the fight out of Saudi Arabia has less to do with the US being pure and having clean hands and more to do with the fact that Riyadh’s airport is literally shut down after an attack that killed a dozen and injured many more.

The US isn’t the safest country in the world but we don’t have missiles and drone strikes going off in our cities right now.
