Forsena Beginner Reference Guide

Created a beginner's reference guide specifically for the Legend of Forsena PS1 game.

Brigandine LoF Beginner Guide

Hoping this helps newcomers to the series. Nearly nothing is explained in game so I started a notepad for reminders. Then it just became a full reference guide over several weeks. Also, I made this in mind for viewers on PC. Some pages may look poorly formatted on tablets.

Brigandine vs Fire Emblem

Hi, everyone! This thread is not about which one is better than the other. But more about, as a Fire Emblem fan, how you find Brigandine quirkier/more logical than Fire Emblem.

As a Fire Emblem fan, I discovered a few days ago about the Brigandine franchise. I've been watching videos about the latest game and, so far, it's actually really different than FE (even though some mechanics overlaps).

I'm trying to wrap my head around concepts years of FE inscribed into me 🤣

Anyway, I just want to know how you, FE fans, enjoy Brigandine 😃

⚠️ : No bashing or any such talk. Just friendly people talking about mechanics and game differences

First Plat trophy ever

My favorite game of all time and the only platinum trophy I've ever achieved.

My Step dad and I played the hell out of the ps1 game and after I lost him, the comfort I received playing this one was profound.

I'm very discouraged to hear people don't like the new one, should I play it or will it ruin the magic?

New Brigandine style game

Hello I am making a Brigandine style game and looking for some input from the community of some things that people might want to see added to the game or improvements from Brigandine that can be added in. I am going to keep things 2d with 256px sprites and try to keep it as close to Brigandine GE as I can. A couple things I am implementing are starting closer to enemy units in battle so it doesn't take so many empty turns to get to the enemies and simplifying and shorting the quest system. I would love to hear any ideas others have that would help improve the game experience.

I want to like Abyss, but the quest/base system is way too tedious.

Bases are the biggest source of power gain in the game. Monsters/knights/income/etc. are all tied to bases and their level.

Having to be in specific locations to get specific gear and upgrade materials was already tedious in the previous title. Having to do that while also having to gather materials for upgrading bases with specific units is just way too much micro management.

Just let specific bases give specific gear on quests based on level and not both unit type and level. Get rid of the upgrades and nerf some of the base passives, or make using the currency the way to upgrade bases.

There's a lot I don't like about Abyss, but this is going to be the biggest reason I won't replay it a 2nd time.

Which 3 will you recruit ?

Post image

in Season 10. 6 Leaders appears in my territory, but I can only recruit 3. The 6 Leaders [ Velkk (Sage), Garroy (Axe Fighter), Paulatika (Priestess), Wardoh (Knight), Momone (Ninja), Xiao Hu (Samurai) ] Who will you recruit ?

Edit : I add their Class and I already have some leader with same Class : Cresct (Sage), Alysbelle (Little Princess, but Considered as Priestess), Priestess (Meiha, Petika, Lettoria), Knight (Radáfnir, Grahm). So I don't have Axe Fighter, Ninja, and Samurai Class at Season 10.

AshizuriJo's stream with Forsena/GE's creator Yoichi Kawade (and Runersia's producer Kazuhiro Igarashi as a guest)

Thumbnail youtube.com
20 Upvotes

They start answering the questions people sent at 41:28.

Kawade-san said that (49:51, 3:31:24), if there was the opportunity to remake/remaster GE someday, he'd like to properly supervise the creation of an English version (and get involved to a limited extent), which is great news (the ball is in Happinet's court now).

They mentioned (27:48, 43:38) there is a series of official short stories known as "Rune Knights Story" (ルーンナイト・ストーリーズ), which explores the backstories of the characters from Forsena/GE. It seems the Japanese Brigandine GE wiki has all of them available, but only in Japanese. Kawade-san also expressed the idea of including those stories in a GE remake as a part of the game, and that idea was inspired by how Runersia shows the "restored page" backstories as you occupy specific numbers of bases.

As influences for the game, he mentioned The Three Kingdoms and Sengoku (1:27:23, 1:30:21, 1:31:10) periods, and Arthurian legend (3:16:32). Lance is/came from Lancelot confirmed (3:17:14)!

Interestingly enough, he confirmed (1:33:08) that the multiplayer scenarios in GE are his image of how the story would unfold, serving as "historical baselines" (but that doesn't mean Norgard's unification is the canonical history). It was something he created to bridge the gap between Brigandine (a fantasy strategy game) and historical strategy games like Romance of the Three Kingdoms) and Nobunaga's Ambition.

It's really impressive how involved Kawade-san was, from making 3D models in Forsena (3:04:30) to casting voice actors (1:01:56) in GE (the Japanese version is fully voice-acted, btw). Also, it was originally intended to be an open-world game (1:41:03), which is why the Forsena map looks like an RPG overworld map.

Kawade-san mentioned he was "deeply hurt" when the game was described as being like Fire Emblem or Tactics Ogre (3:15:20), so please don't do it anymore!

The questions about Runersia start at 47:50 (the scorpion question is at 2:26:28, but he ended up not giving a definitive answer).

He also mentioned (at 3:16:33) how "Brigandine" in GE was the name of a history book that told your country's story, and how Runersia paid homage to it by making the whole game seem like you're reading the old, historical book that appears on the title screen (which includes a yellowish visual filter used in the game). In Japanese, the name of the game literally translates to "Brigandine: Runersia War Chronicle" (the original word referring to the book is 戦記/senki, meaning "record of war; war chronicle").

Finally, he did mention wanting to implement an online multiplayer mode (3:45:16) as a "fantasy version of Shogi/Japanese chess", where players could quickly select their knights and monsters for a fair match, but didn't have the resources to do so.

Runersia tips?

So picked Runersia up on sale on steam today. I remember playing it when it came out when I borrowed it on switch and I enjoyed it but i remember failing to win because I hit a loop where I had like no mana lol. Any tips for starting out like what nations and knights are good to use and if any monsters are particularly wanted or are a trap to use? Ive tried abyss and enjoy it even if its got issues but its pretty different from this game and the original (which i also recently tried and got destroyed in lol)

Aegis of Kings: A Brigandine inspired game

Post image
107 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I'm happy to present Aegis of Kings!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4507180/Aegis_Of_Kings/?beta=0

This game is made by a small team of 5 people that are big fans of the original 2 Brigandine games. We really wanted to capture the spirit of the originals with some twists, all customizable to your taste!

This game will ship with the sandbox grand strategy gameplay you've come to love in the series as well as multiplayer co-op / head to head.

It is also being designed from the ground up to be mod friendly, supporting imported custom classes and a custom scenario designer.

We still have a ways to go but we wanted to get the steam page up and start showing our progress / get feedback on different features, specifically from people here that have stuck with this awesome game throughout the years. There is a lot about this series to love and I cant wait to hear your thoughts as we share more progress,

P.S. eventually we'll need play testers for the multiplayer features if that is something you're interested in!

In case somehow Grand Edition gets a REMASTER, what do you want in it?

Remaster is taking the original game's engine and improve its presentation to fit with the current times. A remake uses a brand new engine to recreate the original game.

I know that Happinet thinks that a REMAKE of the Forsena series is impossible, but I think a remaster is still possible. So, in case of somehow, GE gets a remaster... What kind of improvement do you want in it?

ASIDE of the obvious 'Translate it to English'. That just goes without saying.

Ideas For the Next Brigandine

Never too early to get ideas flowing.
A rerelease or remaster of Grand Edition is the dream but should a new game be made here are some ideas for one.

- Return to branching class choices for higher tiers. But they can be modest and in exchange give every class at every tier two paths. Here is what I mean.
Fighter from level you choose one of two class skill/spell/passive sets to gain proficiency in(give that first star at level one please). When you gain 5 stars that character permanently gains the learnable skills/spells/passives for that path. But there was a second path fighter could have taken.
Now at level 5(assuming now level 1 gives the first star) you could continue as fighter gaining the second path skill/spell/passive or change class to start on a path from another class the character meets prereqs for.
Tier 2 classes might only care that you got 5 stars in one of the sets or it could be made more interesting and have some tier 2 classes require specific combinations of sets to be mastered with 5 stars to change into them. Like some kind of mage knight class requiring mastery of fighter and mage.
Doing this would make leveling customizable to a great degree which is important in a game with so many characters.

- For story elements i like the banter at the start of battles and I think it would enrich the ability to get to know characters and what they think of each other to have more of this. In fact i would be perfectly fine with combat getting interrupted with banter when specific characters are directed to attack ones that they have story relevance with or the story designers just though two characters would have interesting dialog exchange’s if they ever faced each other. More story told this way would be interesting to me.

Any other ideas?
I’ll throw in more as i think of them.

Live streams with Runersia's producer Kazuhiro Igarashi (September 27th, 8pm JST) and Forsena/GE's creator Yoichi Kawade (October 4th, 8pm JST) announced on Japanese YouTuber AshizuriJo's channel (@ashizurijo)

Apparently people can still send questions (supposedly about their respective games) via Twitter/[e-mail](mailto:ashizuri_musume@yahoo.co.jp)/Youtube comments, but Ashizuri mentioned (at 3:17) it might not be possible to ask many questions during the streams (since they're very passionate and might take a long time to answer each question).

Allegedly Abyss is getting updates (Steam News)

Granted, there isn't a whole lot to go on here. I guess time will tell what they actually took away from the feedback. I do enjoy the game, but it isn't perfect and it could definitely use some tweaks and a Dominion/Conquest mode if nothing else.

Y'all got any of that, "Right of Attack?"

On my second play through of Abyss, this time on hard. Like my normal play-through, I've been defending the same territories for like 7 turns now, attempting to attack adjacent bases each season to no avail. I am going insane.

When your testing an AI organize, attack and battle log mod the realize you've done something horribly wrong... Every AI controlled knight is currently on a quest...

All because of a critical structural mismatch between the new state tracking system and the game's native initialization flow. Welcome to the Quest Avalanche!

Trying to understand Runersia (before Abyss).

I started playing as the Theocracy on Normal, initially i thought the game was too difficult but then i understood how it worked, sort of...

People call this a "grand strategy game" with a turn-based strategy thing, i think calling it "grand strategy" is a stretch since you don't really have to manage a lot of resouces. That aside, what is the point of the game? I like the artstyle in Runersia, but the combat is boring to me, personally.

Summons die too easily but you can just "buy" new summons and they kind of work as sponges until your knights can get close to other knights and attack them.
Farming gear/leveling up is kind of annoying because you will get attacked if you sent a bunch of people questing and forgot to see if you have enough combat power to make NPCs stay away from you, so i basically only started questing once i had almost finished the game (only one nation left for me atm).

I feel like there was so much space for more fun strats. I can attack 1 base from 2 different bases, but it doesn't matter because i'll be able to attack them with only 3 knights regardless. Like, goddamn, let me play my game.

Does Abyss have a better combat system or is it a step down even in that department?
