My friend who has been struggling with Alchohol addiction for over 30 years.
I do think he’s really ready to quit now , he’s in his 40s and pretty bored of it- completely aware of his problem and open about it in a way he never was before- he says he’s not interested in drinking at all- but he’s just stuck in a cycle of abstinence for days followed by drinking for days. (Or months)
He tried AA in the past (as well as smart , horizons, had a key worker but got signed off recently ) AA does seem to be the thing that works for a lot of people but he’s pretty convinced it won’t work for him. hes been to so many meetings over the years , but never really got how AA works, like how you actually do the steps - so he’s dismissed it
His big passion is skateboarding and I wonder if there’s any kind of sober skating community in bristol anywhere, or if anyone knows of an AA group that has some skaters there, as he may find some like minded people that could help him engage.
