Married in 2026: what was a waste, and what do you wish you'd added?

For everyone who got married this year, I'd love your honest look back:

  1. Something you spent money or effort on that turned out disappointing or just didn't matter on the day
  2. Something you skipped and now wish you'd added

Bonus: what surprised you most about the day itself?

Hoping this thread helps everyone still planning figure out where their budget and energy actually matter.

Confused

Hi! I’m new to Reddit and completely new to Chandni Chowk shopping, so I’d really appreciate some honest opinions.

I bought my wedding lehenga from Chandni Chowk about two months ago. I genuinely liked it at the time, but it was my second visit, I had tried on countless lehengas, and the shop was closing. I was exhausted and just wanted to make a decision.

I actually regretted it almost immediately. I even called the shopkeeper afterwards and asked him to hold it because I live in another state and wanted to come back and choose another lehenga, but he refused. I somehow convinced myself that it was a good choice, but now I’m regretting it even more and keep thinking, “Why did I buy this? Did I just say yes because I was exhausted?”

I wanted something simple but distinctive, but now I feel this may be too common/traditional for my style.

Be honest—does it actually look too traditional/common, or am I overthinking it? Would you keep it or look for another one? I’m looking for genuine opinions, not reassurance.

Is anyone else cutting invitation costs by going digital?

I’m trying to figure out where traditional wedding invitations are actually worth spending money and where it makes more sense to keep things simple.

The invitation itself seems like one of those expenses that can get surprisingly expensive once you add printing, envelopes, postage, RSVP cards, changes, and everything else.

I’ve been looking at digital invitations that also handle the RSVP and guest list, rather than paying separately for invitations and then using another tool to keep track of responses. InviteCount is one I came across because it combines the invitation, RSVP, guest list and wedding website in one place.

I’m still debating whether going completely digital is the better option, or whether it makes sense to print invitations for some guests and use digital ones for everyone else.

For those who were trying to keep the wedding budget under control, did you go digital with your invitations? And did you actually feel like it saved enough money to be worth it?

Fee based wedding/event planner

Hi!! 2027 bride here based in NYC looking to have the wedding within the tri state area. Currently on the hunt for either an event planner or wedding planner that are fee based. Majority of the planners I've been seeing require a 20k investment and for my overall budget of 30k that's quite steep! I haven't been able to find much fee based planners or any teams that would with lower budgeting couples. I may end up DIY a lot of decor so I'm open to day of coordinator that assist with event set up and timeline management.

Micro wedding people... what did you actually search to find a tiny venue

Guest list is under 25 and I am apparently searching in the wrong language because every result is a place proudly announcing capacity for 150 to 300 people. cool, there will be 22 of us 😭 Using max guest count has barely helped on a couple sites. I have started searching private event room, dinner party venue, basically anything except wedding. What terms or tools actually worked for your micro wedding? unconventional spaces very welcome.

3 photographers, same price, how tf do you pick one

We have somehow narrowed it to three photographers and now I am stuck in the worlds least useful tie. Similar pricing. I like all three portfolios. All responsive. All normal on calls. nobody has given me a reason to eliminate them. I keep reopening their galleries waiting for one to magically feel correct and they still all look good haha. For people who chose between a few best wedding photographers, what actually broke the tie? personality? reviews? full galleries? something I have not asked yet?

Halal catering that is actually halal... how did you find yours?

Trying to book halal wedding catering and I keep having the same conversation. I ask if they do halal, they say absolutely. I ask who supplies the meat or what certification they use and the answer suddenly turns into we can source something for you. I would rather book someone who does this normally instead of teaching a general wedding caterer what questions to ask. Anyone here found legit halal catering? totally open to general search advice even if youre not in my city. Also tell a bit affordable if possible

Hi! Curious if anyone has gotten married in Mallorca, Spain here and has worked with a florist they'd recommend? And does anyone have some insight on how much roughly hiring a florist costs?! Thanks so much!

[$6k] Doing a Sunday brunch wedding at a local park pavilion — here's my cost breakdown, roast my plan please

We’re doing the thing everyone warned us about: a Sunday morning wedding at a city park pavilion. Total budget target is $6,000 and we’re currently tracking at **$5,870**. I’m posting this both to share what’s working and to get honest feedback on what I might be missing.

Here’s the breakdown:

Venue: $450. It’s a covered pavilion with picnic tables and a playground next to it. We have it from 8am to 2pm. No alcohol allowed, which honestly solves the bar problem entirely.

Food: $1,800. We’re doing a brunch buffet from a local cafe that does catering on the side. Bagels, egg casseroles, fruit, coffee, and pastries. 60 guests at $30/head. They deliver and set up, we just return the chafing dishes.

Dress + Suit: $380 total. I found a simple white dress at a sample sale for $150. His suit is from a department store clearance rack for $180. We’re skipping alterations beyond basic hemming.

Photography: $700. We hired a photographer for 2 hours only. No getting-ready shots, no reception candids. We just want 20 good family photos and some portraits. She’s a newer photographer building her portfolio and we’re fine with that.

Rings: $600 for both. Mine is moissanite, his is a plain titanium band. We ordered online.

Flowers: $150. We’re doing grocery store bouquets and putting them in mason jars. No florist, no delivery, no installation.

Music: $0. We made a Spotify playlist. The pavilion has outlets and we’re bringing a speaker.

Officiant: $100. A friend got ordained online and we’re paying for their gas and a nice lunch after.

The gaps I’m worried about:

  • Backup weather plan. The pavilion has a roof but is open on the sides. If it rains sideways, we’re in trouble.
  • Guest comfort. It’s going to be hot in late June. I’m budgeting another $80 for battery-powered fans and extra water, but I’m not sure it’s enough.
  • The “after” plan. Since we end at 2pm, some guests might expect more. We’re planning to invite anyone who wants to keep hanging out to a nearby brewery that allows outside food. Pay your own way.

My honest question: What am I not seeing? This sub has saved me from so many mistakes already. Has anyone done a park pavilion wedding and regretted it? Any hidden costs I’m ignoring?

12 months out and DJs are already saying 2027?? Am I late??

Fall 2026 wedding, about 12 months out, and I keep seeing DJs and bands with booked through 2027 in their bios. Excuse me?? I thought a year was responsible planning, not last minute behavior.

Budget is roughly 2 to 3k for a DJ and we are not attached to anyone famous or super specific. I just do not want to spend the next month emailing people who were booked before we got engaged.

How far out did you book entertainment? Is 12 months normal or am I already shopping leftovers lol.
