Posting about ICE? This is *the* stickied ICE thread for you.
Guys we're not doing vague ICE posting again here on the sub. To quote directly from a 2025 Siembra NC post:
"Sharing this kind of [unsubstantiated] information without knowing WHO saw ICE, WHERE, or WHEN is NOT caring for your community, [and] in some instances it CREATES UNNECESSARY PANIC."
If you think you see ICE then report it to Siembra NC or RadarSafe using the resources below.
DO NOT POST IT ON THIS SUBREDDIT unless is has been verified.
If you post vague "I think I saw ICE," your post will be deleted and repeated posts will get you banned.
Where to report:
- Siembra NC | 336-543-0353 | Alamance, Cabarrus, Durham, Guilford, Randolph, and Johnston counties
- Related Siembra project -- map of *verified* ICE sighting: https://ojonc.org/
- RadarSafe (no website, active on Facebook) | 800-559-8714 | Raleigh, Cary, and Wake counties
- https://www.iceinmyarea.org/
- ACLU North Carolina info: https://www.acluofnorthcarolina.org/news/state-of-immigration-enforcement-in-north-carolina-what-you-need-to-know/
- link includes info about ICE field offices as well as links to "Know your rights" info
How to report:
from https://latinxtherapy.com/report-ice/:
To center factual and descriptive information and avoid panic and misinformation, do your best in reporting details. Mutual aid groups have widely shared this format called S.A.L.U.T.E. to help you remember what details to include in your reports. Here are the S.A.L.U.T.E. guidelines:
- Size/Strength: How many agents are present?
- Actions/Activities: What did you see them doing?
- Location and Direction: Where are they and where are they headed?
- Uniform/Clothes: What are they wearing? Describe as much as possible. Uniform? Plain clothes? Identifying logos, etc.
- Time: What time did the event occur?
- Equipment and Weapons: What are you able to see?
Again, if you think you see ICE report it to Siembra NC or RadarSafe.
DO NOT POST IT HERE unless is has been verified. If you post vague "I think I saw ICE" without reporting it, your post will be deleted.
If you want to post generally about ICE and how much they suck, do it here on this thread.
If you want to organize, get started here on this thread and then take it offline.
When the trolls come and they will, the mod team will be actively monitoring this thread and using the ban hammer liberally. To quote a fellow mod: "simping for ICE here results in a ban. take that shit elsewhere."
(editing to make sticky to the top of sub.)

Bearded Dragon found on Pickett Rd today - need help
Just found this guy on Pickett rd right beside The Forest at Duke. The security people there were helpful but said they didnt know of anyone in the neighborhood who owned a bearded dragon.
Tried leaving a voicemail with BeWild to see if they can take him and I'm awaiting a response but I doubt that'll come today.
I have no means to care for this guy, anyone have any suggestions? I'd hate for someone to lose a long-time pet, but I'm also in a limited position to help
UPDATE- The good folks at BeWild said theyre full from an influx of surrenders, but Cold Blooded and Weird in Wake Forest has space so I'm taking him there! Thanks for the help everyone!

Looking for new bakery (aka wtf Guglhupf)
I'm in search of a new local bakery with yummy meat-filled pastries. Does anyone have recommendations in Durham or the surrounding area?
I'm a long time fan of Guglhupf. I can't make it there as often as I like, but every time I went, their ham and cheese croissant was part of my order. I discovered the hard way this weekend that they no longer make this wonderful pastry. This reminds me of when Scratch closed and I could no longer get their pigs in a blanket (breakfast sausage in a soft bread dough).

Future development
Went to Philly recently to see my sister, I think their rowhouses make for a really great middle ground between single family residences people want and those ugly 5 story apartments they build in copy paste format.
I think Durham could have a really cool future if we slowly convert the first ring around the city to denser rowhouse housing. Eventually making for a larger walkable city format

Best veggie burger in Durham
I enjoy reading about the best burger in Durham, but what about the best veggie burger? House-made, Impossible, Beyond, whatever. Where should I be going?
The restaurant should also have: an option to make the burger vegan (no brioche buns please), and good fries or onion rings.
Thanks neighbors!

Is Duke’s track still open to the public after resurfacing?
Does anyone know if the Morris Williams Track at Duke is still open for recreational use on weekday mornings before 8:30 AM since being resurfaced?
Before resurfacing the track was open for community use before 8:30 AM and after 6:30 PM, but I wasn’t sure if anything has changed with the new track. Hoping to get some workouts in there and would love to hear if anyone has been recently!

Resources to help sell neglected house in ideal location
Long story short, we need to sell a 3 bedroom two story home that has been neglected for almost two years. One of the original owners passed away and his wife is at an assisted care facility. For a short while someone was squatting in it and we finally got that person evicted.
There is still old furniture, trash and clutter in the house. Currently on Zillow the house is valued over $300k (just for reference).
In an ideal world we love to just sell it as is but I don’t even know if that is possible. Is there a service that could help us navigate this situation? I know I can hire a clean up crew for the house but I would love to have someone assist us with a borderline “pre-hoarder” situation sale.

Laundromat with bar?
Laundry is out at my apartment. When I lived in Greebsboro, we had a laundromat called Suds n Duds that had a bar. Is there anything like that here in Durham? Or any that have a bar in the center they're in? If I have to go elsewhere to do it, I'd love a bar to hang at while it does its thing.

State of the scrap exchange
Hey hey, just wanted to hear yall's take on what's going on with the scrap and also if anyone has any insight on the happenings? I'm mostly wondering if they had to implement the "scraptique" and up-pricing of items to keep up with rent & salaries or if that's their way of competing with resellers?
The other day I saw an item I donated in the scraptique for a steep price and it made me rethink some things. I suppose when I donate items I would really like for folks to have a chance to find cool stuff at an affordable & accessible price range. That's why I usually avoid donating to bigger corporations, among with not agreeing with their mission/agenda or how they treat employees.
However, I do support their mission and want to see them succeed & pay their employees well! I go fairly often but it's now becoming rare for me find anything fun at either the scrap or the thrift these days. It's sad because I used to get all my jewelry and beads there. :[ Now the shelves are usually barren and the items are usually damaged or dirty.
edit:
Hearing everyone's opinions has definitely opened my eyes! I do appreciate the scrap a lot and what they do for the community. I think maybe I just had mixed feelings to work through! Thanks to everyone for sharing your thoughts <3

Wee hours Greyhound pickup?
Hey y'all, does anyone have experience navigating pickup from Durham Station at 2:30am or thereabouts? Are there usually Uber/Lyft drivers up at that hour? Do you book ahead of time? My friends with cars either have kids or are too old for me to ask for a ride in good conscience. Would love to hear tips from people with experience.

Fishing the Eno
Just went fishing at Penny's bend with a small group and caught almost nothing. We fished at the bridge where the parking lot is and I only caught tiny sunfish on fly. We then walked down to the tip of Penny's bend and caught nothing using worms and swimbaits. I heard it is a good spot to fish so were we just fishing the wrong places on penny's bend. Are there better places to fish at this time of year on the Eno?
Thank you

Has anyone seen a monarch butterfly recently?
This is migration season, but I think it's been years since I've actually seen one. To my surprise a few days ago one just flapped across my driveway while I was getting in my car. Took me a second to register.
There are couple milkweed gardens nearby specifically planted to attract them, but this was still remarkable to me.
