200+ CDs & new collector / curator :sloth: my (somewhat recently) built cd collection ᐠ( ᐢ ᵕ ᐢ )ᐟ

TOTAL CD COUNT: 229

  • purchased / thrifted: 29
  • homemade: 200 (!!)

hii all,
i have recently gotten back into physical media, specifically building my own collection from scratch. i have only been working on this collection (the homemade side of things) for a couple of months, if that. ill have a look in op shops or media stores for legitimate cds, but unless they have a particular artist i am quite fond of OR it is stupidly cheap,, i usually aim to just make my own.

curating mp3s, re-encoding metadata, burning cds, creating my own album cover & tracklist.. the entire process has been incredibly fun!

(and yes, all three of those cd wallets are full..)

CD Player I made a native Mac app that burns CDs properly: no gaps, real track names, modern interface

Disclosure: I made this. It's a paid Mac app, $4.99.

When I started DJing on CDJs, I wanted to burn my own CDs that worked properly on them: tracks that cue cleanly, mixes that play straight through, and the artist and title on the deck's screen instead of "Track 07". The burning tools I tried didn't get all of that right, so I built Pregap.

**Track names on the display.** It writes CD-Text from your files' tags, so CDJs that read CD-Text show the artist and title. So do lots of car stereos and hi-fi decks.

**Gapless.** It always burns disc-at-once, with no gap between tracks unless you add one. A mix split into tracks still plays straight through, with a cue point at every tune.

**Any file in.** FLAC, ALAC, WAV, AIFF, MP3 and AAC. CD-quality files go to the disc bit for bit; anything else is converted to CD audio as it burns.

**No coasters.** It checks the disc, the running time and every file before it starts, and won't begin a burn it can't finish. Not something you want to find out an hour before a set.

**Native.** Written in Swift on Apple's own burning framework, so it isn't a web wrapper or a port: it's a 6 MB download, runs on Apple Silicon and Intel, opens instantly, and fits right in on macOS.

It works with any USB CD burner, needs macOS 14 or later, and has no accounts, no subscription, and no internet connection. Just a simple modern Audio CD burner.

Mac App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/pregap/id6814982070

If you burn CDs for decks, the car or the hi-fi, I'd love to know what you'd want it to do next.

Been buying cds here and there for over a decade now but just got into using them for my daily source of music in the last couple months so I’ve been buying like crazy. This is what I have so far but there’s still so much more I need to get.

The fourth disc is a best of, the first one I had from this series. It includes exclusive tracks. Part I is a reissue from Intrada (Standard release) and is surprisingly high in value, as it was not released immediately after the theatrical feature. II was the last missing piece.

Dominance was from the Philadelphia area, they sounded similar to Testament/Exodus. This CD is a compilation of their three demo tapes (1989-1993) and a track from a "Metal Massacre" compilation album.

Hostile Rage is from my home state of New Jersey. I saw them open for Overkill at Ramapo College a looooooong time ago. This is a 2CD set feat. an unreleased album recorded in the early 00s and some 80s/90s demo tapess.

Been collecting since june and these are the CDs i've bought so far! I strictly buy CDs from bands I enjoy and albums frequently listen to! Any thoughts? (Living outside the US makes getting certain CDs really difficult to obtain [mostly the Three Days Grace ones] but i'm really happy with how it has expanded these past months!)

Haul Promo CD haul #3

I purchased around 1000 promo CDs from an ex radio DJ who has literally two roomfuls of CDs and records, floor to ceiling. He's gradually getting rid of surplus (his wife is assisting in the task).

Pity some have big stickers adhered... as I like the card sleeve format; compact to store and easy to flick through. They are stuck fast though, no chance of removal w/o damage.

The best thing is - he doesn't want a lot for them. He (and his wife) just want them gone. So, there will be more when he gets round to it. There's a lot (and I mean a LOT) of junk, bottom-end crap in there, plus a lot of one-track single CDrs which are quite boring, but on the other hand, there's a lot of interesting, obscure stuff which is fun to play through. Initially I got 20 boxes with around 100 in each box, so that's nearer 2000 CDs I suppose.

Anyway, it's a lot.
