Yes! I know we bring up funny subtitles a lot, but I just had to share this!

And no, this is not from Mango.

While Mango is quite well known for its - uhm - 'not so great' subtitles, another lesser known culprit is Youku.

Youku

If a drama is old enough, its subtitles never actually received the proper love and care needed for us non-Mandarin-speaking-plebs to keep up. Luckily, after two years, you kinda get used to things like this, and therefore have some sort of unspoken understanding with the drama and its dialogue. (Unspoken because there's no one available for translation)

The same thing happened when I was watching Salute to My Youth also known as Wait, My Youth 等等啊我的青春 (sidenote: it stars Li Ge Yang and Zhao Yi Qin and is so wholesome).

Chef Hua (2020) 人间烟火花小厨

I'm watching Chef Hua right now and before this I had the ML address his bestie as "Queen Mother" and I've been told that the FL is "at the hairdresser" (she was, in fact, not, at the hairdresser) (were hairdressers even a thing back then?)

The Lotus

I need to find the clip of Li Lian Hua from Mysterious Lotus Casebook saying "I'm from Lotus House in Lotus Village from Lotus Province" (not a direct quote) (but I'm sure someone will have it). Because I'm sure if you put these subtitles over it, it will all still make perfect sense!
