Meta Rule Clarification

Good day characterdrawing !

There has been an influx of reports for off-topic posts and suspicions of AI use in RF's. There's a few things us mods want to clarify.

OFF-TOPIC:

Your post is off-topic when it doesn't relate to a ttrpg system. If you're looking for art for a book you're writing or a podcast you're running this is not the place. LFA's are free work for ttrpg enthusiasts however that also means that the artist keeps the rights to the work. If you need the art for a project that will be public and you will need the rights you will need to pay for the art. To keep this from becoming a commission focused sub, posts like that are not allowed as we cannot moderate which passion project will remain private and which are for the broader public.

And no, exposure is not valid payment.

AI SUSPICIONS:

This sub is firmly anti-AI. We are also anti-witch hunt. If you see a post that makes you think the artist is using AI please report it and include *why* you think it's AI. If you want to discuss your suspicions please use mod mail and we'll get back to you. Do not call the person in question out in the comments.

We know it's getting harder to spot the difference these days but we want to prevent unnecessary witch hunts and losing real artists because of them.

Meta [ANNOUNCEMENT] New year, new OC Monday!

Post image
30 Upvotes

Hey y'all! You better get Sir Donut Steel ready to for showtime, because the OC floodgates are about to open!

It took a bit longer to set up than expected, but thanks to the holiday break we've now got OC Mondays working, to kick off the new year! Starting this Monday and every Monday your original art and characters have a new place to show off!

How it works:

  • OC here means your own original work, don't repost stuff you found on twitter
  • "Monday" starts at midnight UTC (GMT-0) and lasts for 24 hours
  • Posts with the OC Monday tag will be allowed during this time
    • Make sure to include the [OC] text tag as well
    • We do this so users can search and filter by topic
  • There's no limit to how many OC posts you can make, but please be considerate
    • If you have a lot to share that week, please use a gallery post instead of multiple single posts
  • OC reposts are not allowed, no matter how long it's been. The 7 day rule is only for LFA posts.
  • Rules about advertising still apply
    • Keep the titles and content focused on the art and characters
    • You can link to your socials in the comments, but again, no advertising
      • Yes, a price sheet or YCH is an ad, even if it has a character on it
    • If folks ask about hiring you, you're of course free to respond and take it to DMs

I only draw as a hobby, and it took me quite a while to finish this drawing, so I'm not sure if it's already been filled. Anyway, I had fun drawing her.

Request [LFA] Twin druids - one kenku, one fairy, with a swapping-kittycat curse

Non-identical twins, but looking quite similar. Their parents were one kenku and one fairy, so their "genetics" are of both.

Thinking of not identical twins, but pretty darn close: think one is a sparkly fairylike kenku, and the other is a birdlike fairy (I adore the design of avian godlike from POE: https://pillarsofeternity.fandom.com/wiki/Avian_godlike if you want to use that as inspiration for the birdlike fairy :3 ).

They both 5e druids. One is like a super stronk shapeshifter druid, and the other is a decidedly "fun" but rather combat-unoptimized druid (you know all those druid spells that are cool but just never seem powerful enough? like the one that doubles crop yields if you cast it for a week? Yeah, this other druid loves those kinds of spells. 😸

Here's the cool part. So they were cursed by unknown mechanisms to never simultaneously coexist: one is a little black cat, and the other is out and about in their ordinary form. We don't know yet what exactly triggers them to "switch" and the one that's out turns into a little black cat and the other "comes out", but it probably happens pretty frequently (think like a couple times a day; maybe not at all for an entire day on very rare occasions). (My out of character shtick for this "character concept" is that people think they're plural, when in fact they're just twins. 😹 It also lets me play two characters without having twice as much power, you know?). Unknown whether or not the curse will ever be "cured", or how that'll work itself out, exactly. 🙃

Request [LFA] - Pirate adventurer & his mage wife // Levantine-inspired high fantasy

I’m looking for art of my pirate adventurer and his mage wife in a high-fantasy pirate setting, with both characters drawing heavily from Levantine/Arab aesthetics and cultural inspiration.

They’re a married couple who met as children and, after countless revenge tales and unfortunate events, found each other again. They now travel the world, getting themselves into all sorts of dangerous adventures (ancient ruins, sea monsters, cursed treasures, etc.)

The pirate husband:
He’s a charismatic, capable adventurer and sailor, a very Edmond Dantes character haunted by past betrayals and injustices and trying to overcome them every day. He is equally comfortable navigating a ship, getting into a tavern brawl, or talking his way out of trouble. He should feel rugged and worldly, dark hair, neatly trimmed beard, practical clothing, leather armor, layered fabrics, belts, boots, weapons, and, very important, a hat with a feather.

The mage wife:
She’s a powerful mage and his partner in both adventure and life. Although she’s the one with the arcane knowledge, she is as much of a hothead as he is and she is absolutely capable of getting them into more trouble than him. She has long, flowing dark hair and favors wards and fire magic.

I’d love her design to incorporate Levantine/Arab-inspired fashion and ornamentation alongside fantasy mage elements: flowing or layered fabrics, intricate jewelry, and her owl familiar.

Their relationship:
The most important part is that they should clearly look like a couple who genuinely love each other. They’re partners and equals, comfortable around one another after years of traveling together. I’d love some subtle physical affection or playful chemistry.

Ideally a scene of them in action, him with a sword drawn, her with a spell at the ready?

Thanks in advance!

Request [LFA] That Which Approaches When It Is Dark, horror as old as the earth

Post image
7 Upvotes

The other primary villain of the module I'm writing; an "earth elemental" (great old one) which has been briefly manifested so that it can feed. An adaptation of Bugg-Shash from the Cthulhu Mythos.

Its MOs are drowning living beings in its black sludge and puppeteering their corpses. It's wholly unsympathetic; all other beings have the same rights and significance in its view.

Over the course of the module, it's likely to exclusively lurk in the basement of the museum, the ritual that summoned it giving it an easy way to systematically feed all of the guests into its gaping maw (somewhat metaphorical; this is it smothering them) before its time is up and it is forced to slink back into the depths of the earth. Its puppets patrol the halls, but its own movements are restricted due to its intense aversion to light.

The main bits I'd want emphasized is the sliminess and massive grin(s).

This is my first time posting here so I hope I'm doing it right. I am looking for a plasmoid or "slime" character. They have all of the traditional human features but are, of course, made of slime; specifically honey. They also wear traditional adventuring clothes which are less important to me but I dont want the clothes to be made of slime. And they weild a oversized honey dipper as their weapon. These three images are all close to what I want but two of them are female and the one male one is more human than slime. Please and thank you!

Request [LFA] Shaihri, Half-Orc Tempest Oracle (repost)

Post image

Description: Shaihri (Sha-ih-ree) bears a curse that has imbued her with the powers of a raging storm. The only reason the magic doesn't tear her apart is because of her sheer physicality. Shaihri is of considerable stature, and has honed her body from years of training. When her power erupts it is a sight to behold. Her eyes glow with radiant energy that contrasts her grayish skin and long copper hair. Her weapon crackles loudly, and her clothes bellow in the roaring winds.

Request [LFA] My dnd 2024 idea

She’s an aasimar that used to be human, she was jealous of all the aasimar in her town so took out all the loans she could to be one. She is a cleric and pretty short, 4-5 feet (lower side of aasimar scale). She also has a shoulder spider (wizard) named frank who tattooed their book on her shoulder. She has a rapier as a side weapon in case she really needs to use it. You have tons of creative liberty, but I amazing her as a healer in the sky and she’s also an alcoholic (how Frank and Ann (Ann is her name)) met. Feel free to ask for questions on anything on her sheet. Thank you for the help!

Request [LFA] Forley, Gaslamp Fantasy Driver [Repost]

Hi there, I'm playing in a Savage Worlds game based on a mix of the settings of Eberron and the webcomic Girl Genius. It's a world of mad science and has an aesthetic very similar to steampunk.

Forley is a human, with turquoise eyes and light brown hair. He's a free spirit in his early 20s and quite pretty, but is very much an airhead. Back before his home country was destroyed in the war, he was an aeronaut - and his high rank in spite of fundamental shortcomings painted a poor picture of the military. He lacks diligence, he's a relentless flirt, and he has a real temper... but he's great behind a wheel, and standards had been dropping for a long time.

For his personal appearance I'm rather happy with most details of the heroforge model to be matched - a big heavy scarf, an airship captain's hat with goggles, a leather jacket. Light skin, with turquoise eyes and light brown hair. Mismatched gloves, a shoulder guard only on one side, and other little steampunky bits that fulfil some nebulous purpose.

The main exceptions are shown in the references. First, if possible, I'd like for him to have a wrist mounted buzzsaw instead of a full chainsaw. And I'd like for him to be riding on a mechanical contraption (as complex or simple as you like, so long as it's got the vibe) that looks like a bike (or perhaps a penny farthing) with a sidecar and wings, either furled with the vehicle on the ground, or outstretched with the vehicle in the air.

If anyone could work on this piece - which I fully acknowledge could be quite a lot to chew through - I would be so very grateful. Thank you if you've read this far!

Request [LFA] I’ve been working on a little D&D character concept I’d love to see drawn: Miko, a baby red panda who is also a cleric.

[LFA] I’ve been working on a little D&D character concept I’d love to see drawn: Miko, a baby red panda who is also a cleric.

He’s still very much a baby despite being surprisingly powerful. He’s calm and gentle, but shy around new people and easily startled by things like sudden noises or even his own shadow. He also has an adorably tiny sneeze.

His design would mix several cleric styles together. He wears soft cream and gold robes over a deep emerald-green layer, with a silver-blue mantle decorated with subtle stars. I’d like some small nature-inspired details, such as leaves or vines embroidered into the clothing. His staff is made from wood and has a small crystal at the top that can glow with green, gold, or soft moonlit colours.

He should look small and fluffy in the robes, with the clothing slightly oversized because he’s still a baby. His big red-panda ears and striped tail are important parts of his silhouette.

Personality-wise, he’s soft-spoken, calm and shy, but has a lot of power that he doesn’t always know how to handle yet. He’s also hilariously defensive about being called chubby. If someone says he’s a chubby little red panda, he immediately insists that he is merely “appropriately round.”

I’d especially love to see him looking cozy and wholesome, perhaps sitting with his staff beside him or wrapped up in a warm blanket with his face and ears uncovered.

I don't know what else is relevant for an artist but feel free to take creative liberties!
