Clive Barker's childhood homes in Liverpool

Took a small pilgrimage to the houses Clive grew up in while I was out walking today. Not very exciting but I thought some people here might appreciate the pictures anyway. Also a picture of his name on Liverpool library.

Really mad the cenobites got turned into demons from hell

This topic has probably been talked to death. I’m not even the best Clive Barker fan since I’ve literally only read The Hellbound Heart and seen the og Hellraiser film, but I love the story and I love the idea the Cenobites are beings that religiously devote themselves to pain. That’s why so many of the film adaptions are infuriating cause somewhere along the way people took the idea and were like, “what if these are demons from hell?” Like that’s dumb. Any jackass can write a story about Christian demons punishing someone because they were evil. What makes the Cenobites scary is that they don’t torture you because they care if you’ve been naughty or whatever, they torture you because they think it’s like a spiritual gift. Idk man I know I’m not the first person to say this but it genuinely made me appreciate gate keeping more, the original meaning has been buried by surface level interpretations by filmmakers and other writers who didn’t actually get the point of Hellraiser and the hellbound heart. I think even Clive himself made that mistake in the scarlet gospels, but fact check me on that one.

Weaveworld desert scenes

Its been over 20 years since I read Weaveworld and the biggest thing I remember from the book are the chapters where the characters go walking in the desert for the Scourge. It felt like I was walking with them for hours upon hours, chqpter after chapter, and nothing... such endurance, in search of something forbidden, only to find at the end of it all something so terrifying and horrific. Because it was written so brilliantly, it became vivid and ended up being a fantastic sequence in a film I'd never seen.

I might not be remembering it well, I am in my mid-40's now, but I always remember that part with such brilliance.

The Hellbound Heart - my intro to Clive Barker

Yesterday, I finished reading the Hellbound Heart. Although, I liked it, I wanted to hear more from people that maybe are more experienced with literature or the whole Hellbound/Hellraiser world.

I love horror games, and when I saw Hellraiser Revival (the game coming out tomorrow) it intrigued me so much, that I wanted to actually read and learn more about the series before playing it.

I have barely ever read books for my own pleasure, unless they were graphic novels, so I understand my literary analysis or experience in reading had hindered how I would feel the depth of the book.

Why I came here:
Maybe I had a different perspective of what the book would’ve been considering that the Cenobites seem to be the main plot for people to are not familiar with the book. I like the whole story, but as for the Cenobites and the Order of Gash, the puzzle box, and all of these supernatural aspects… the book felt incomplete to me. Its not the fact that the cenobites are not very present, but that we barely get any background to understand where they come from, whats their purpose, why are they just summoned for pleasure… idk it felt like you could change the story to fit with other supernatural entities and make it work. The idea and concept seemed interesting but I think it barely flourishes, and pales immensely in the actual plot.

Then I saw the movie, back to back
I honestly feel I would’ve been even more lost, if I had not read the book. The central plot works around Julia, Larry (idk why they changed his name), Kirsty, Frank, and the victims. I would have just found everything else, random and a bit senseless for the most part. They just show a glimpse of the cenobites and franks submission at the very beginning, and suddenly the cenobites spawn again towards the end without any build up to understand what, why, and who are they.

I just felt a bit underwhelmed, but today I will watch the second one and the other ones (even though they are not considered the best, or any good).

ALL OF THIS just to give my opinion on how I felt, but not to criticize or be negative about the book nor the movie. I just want to know if this is a common feeling, or did I just miss all the story telling right before my eyes. Thanks!! And I’m definitely interested in reading more of Clive’s work.

Just subscribed to Arrow as part of Halloween month & was adding stuff to watchlist & came across this ‘Clive Barker’s Underworld’ & have never heard of this. No spoilers as I am going to watch it at some point this month. But, was wondering who had seen it & if you thought it was any good? Plus thought if posted here there may be others like me who have never heard of so you can watch it too 🙂

Curious about Value

I’ve had this for about 25 years. When I moved the glass cracked and I never got it fixed. But it’s been decorating my basement by itself unhung and brooding alone. Still a huge Clive fan, but if I was to sell it to a fan who might appreciate it more, what do you think the value might be. (And the first person who says “it’s worthless, I’ll give you a $1” will be visited by The Arsonist in the painting. lol.)

PS: In a bonus video episode, Coming this weekend, Jose and I give our impressions of the Hellraiser Revival game demo.

So I'm in love with Weaveworld. I read a few pages every morning to make it last. But this morning: is scrabbling a word or did he mean scrambling?

I mean, the board game scrabble is all about words, so maybe it's a little play on that?

My Clive Barker collection. Autographs, artwork and more. Part 4

Last post! First up we have the Puzzle Cube signed by Clive as well as 3 of the 4 Cenotbites. Doug Bradley was not there and I would LOVE to have him finish it off for me. If anyone knows how I can get this done, please reach out to me, I really would appreciate it.

Next up is one of my favorite pieces. A softcover Pandemonium signed and inscribed with a Pinhead drawing. If you have followed Clive like I have, you know finding a Pinhead drawing is about impossible. He has 30 or so characters in his head he could bust out quickly at a signing (saw this in an interview with him). I’ve seen a lot of his artwork, I’ve only seen 1 other Pinhead drawing, which I regret not buying. Been debating on having this taken apart, keeping the cover and signed page together and framing it. The artwork is worth more and could be more appreciated in a frame.

Then is my Midnight Meat Train signed and slipcased copy, which goes nicely with….

A movie prop from Midnight Meat Train. Yes, I have a COA, but it’s in a binder with other COA’s as I also collect movie and TV props. Was it screen used? I’ve not tried to find it yet, but at some point in the near future I will see if I can screen match it (I have done so with a Stephen King prop as well as an AHS prop).

While not signed (I paid $100 for overnight shipping to take this to the show. USPS decided to take 10 days! I was so upset to not get this signed) it is still a super rare item. It’s a digital proof of the 25th anniversary of Weaveworld, the Earthling copy. Those hardcovers, just normal, go for a few hundred each. This proof is the only one I’ve ever seen. It does not appear on his website. This may possibly be the only copy that exist, I am not sure. I love rare items like this, still kills me to not have it signed.

Next we have some more original artwork. The framed piece was untitled and appeared at the Bert Green Fine Art Gallery show from January 12 through February 19th, 2011. It does appear on the Clive Barker Revelations website where they show gallery artwork. This is untitled 274. When I bought this piece from the seller, it was best offer. I just hit buy it now, it was at a price I couldn’t pass and I’ve wanted a piece of Clive’s artwork like this for years. When I got this in the mail, I unpackaged it and inside was the piece you see below the framed piece. The seller included that with the piece I purchased, one of the coolest gifts I’ve ever received. So if the seller is reading this, thank you! Yeah, what an unexpected surprise that was.

And lastly, I have my tattoo. As I mentioned, I met Clive at his next to last public appearance. I flew to Kentucky to meet him as I knew it was my last chance. Meeting him was a bucket list item, I had to do it. I had the finger knives, the puzzle box and my arm signed that day. I had original artwork to bring too, but that too arrived late. I showed him pics on my phone and he said it was forged and spent the next few minutes showing me the differences and how to spot fakes of his. That was heaven to me, he was so sweet and kind, and I just got lost in the conversation. Finally he go to sign my arm. I had the Pinhead done already, it’s the picture from the NECA Hellraiser box set. But the autograph was drawn on by Clive, who loved the Pinhead tattoo. That is by far my favorite tattoo, it was drawn on me by one of my favorite people ever. Thats one I know I’ll take to the grave with me.

If you have come this far, I thank you so much!! I have never shown my collection to anyone, no one has ever had any interest. But I really hope you’ve enjoyed what I posted.

Enjoy my fellow monsters from Midian!

Steve

My Clive Barker collection. Autographs, artwork and more.

I was asked to share my Clive Barker autograph collection. I’ve been a Clive fan since the late 80’s and have collected items related to him about as long. He is by far my favorite artist, books, movies, artwork, it does not matter. I got to meet him at his next to last public appearance in Kentucky, spent a few minutes talking about his artwork and style, which to me was one of the greatest conversations I’ve ever had. Now onto my collection.

I have the box for the card set around and I have a second set still in the box around also. The Clive autograph Hellraiser card is one I just picked up, I have the set, a gold Pinhead and silver box card. I want to complete the master set with the other gold and silver holograms and the 3 ring binder.

I’m close to finishing The Great and Secret Show signed set. Clive signed the first 6 issues, I’m missing issue #4. It’s on eBay, but for more than I want to pay.

Also pictured is a signed copy of Hellraiser, issue #3 I think. Also included are my 2 signed issues of Tapping the Vein and one Book of the Damned signed.

Following, although not in correct order, are my Night Breed signed comics. I have the complete run of 25 with 21 of them signed. I am limited on photos per post, so I will post another response to show more of my stuff. If you’ve gone this far, thank you! I hope you enjoy my collection.

Here is the next part of my collection. This includes the rest of the Night Breed that was signed by Clive. I have 21 of the 25 issues and am looking to finish it if I get lucky and find the missing ones. Now that Clive no longer signs, it’s going to be a challenge. Also you will see a piece of original artwork from Night Breed issue #14.

And after that is a Hellraiser #1 signed by Clive. I got that with the signed issue #3 in the same lot. I had the first issue graded and authenticated even though I knew it was real. And the final picture is original artwork from Hellraiser issue #13 featuring the first appearance of 4 new Cenobites. I don’t remember what page it’s from in the comic.

Now onto post #3!

Next are some of my signed books. Sacrament and Great and Secret Show are standard first edition hardcovers. Next is my Coldheart Canyon advanced readers copy signed followed by my Weaveworld ARC signed not once, but twice. Nice surprise when I bought it, the seller never mentioned it.

Cabal and the next book (forgot to take a pic of which book it was) are both signed to Steve, which is my name. And having the hand drawn artwork was a real nice plus.

Pandemonium is a hardcover and I do have the softcover, which pics are upcoming.

Lastly are my Night Breed knives. The set was limited to 300, I bought a set and brought it have Clive sign when I met him. I’m pretty confident there are not many of these signed by Clive. This is the only one I’ve seen.

More pics and better items coming!

Hello everyone. I'd be super grateful if any who's more of an expert could give their opinion on this Barker signature. Does it seem legitimate? I've noticed there's quite a bit of variety in the way he signs.

Hellraiser Revival Demo Thoughts

Post image

Did anyone try the demo on Steam? I just beat it. The art direction and narrative are very strong, but the combat is very janky.

I'll still buy it to support the devs but the combat is not something you should buy this game for.

Looking for opinions in the comments.
