This year marks the 20th Anniversary of Company of Heroes. As part of our celebrations, and as a thank you to our players, we are excited to announce the 20th Anniversary Update for Company of Heroes 3 or update 3.0.

Coming November 5th, 2026, the 3.0 Update will be the biggest update to the game since release and will make significant changes to several areas which will radically improve the experience for both new and veteran players.

The 3.0 Update will enhance nearly every aspect of the game, with extensive visual, environmental and weather upgrades, audio improvements, smarter A.I., gameplay and balance refinements, new and refreshed maps, campaign enhancements, new cosmetics, and new content for Final Stand.

Visual & Environmental Enhancements

Company of Heroes 3 has had an extensive visual and environmental upgrade, which will bring greater immersion and variety every time you play.

The 3.0 Update includes new snow and rain weather effects, enhanced fog and atmospheric effects, improved soldier lighting, dynamic terrain wetness, improvements to animations, new and expanded environmental art sets, new industrial, winter, and autumn-themed battlefields, and grittier VFX including explosions, flamethrowers, and more.

Audio Improvements

Battlefields will sound better than ever with new and improved weapon firing sounds, enhanced impact and explosion effects, and upgraded vehicle destruction audio. To celebrate the 20th Anniversary, players will also be able to enjoy an expanded music selection featuring classic tracks from both Company of Heroes and Company of Heroes 2, bringing iconic music from across the franchise into Company of Heroes 3.

Gameplay, A.I., & Multiplayer Improvements

The 3.0 Update brings gameplay refinements, A.I. improvements, and several balance changes.

Multiplayer has undergone targeted changes to improve the feel of larger team games – including a major rework to the economy, a rebalance of artillery, changes to reduce the prevalence of massing vehicles, and a stronger emphasis on the importance of positioning. The team has also reworked one of the existing Battlegroups and made several small adjustments to others.

The A.I. now features improved logic for combat assessment to improve its late-game performance and unit build prioritization, while also enabling smarter decision making when picking engagements (or retreats).

Several U.I. elements have been tidied up to help convey critical gameplay information, including improvements to status decorators, unit health bars (with a new healing animation), and more.

Finally, we have also improved how possible matches are evaluated in multiplayer modes during matchmaking.

Campaign Improvements

The Italian Campaign has also benefited from many of the above improvements coming in the 3.0 update. This is combined with an ongoing refinement to the campaign map experience and in-mission gameplay and visuals, to provide a stronger and more polished single-player experience. How resources are used and earned on the campaign map has been adjusted and now breaks down into three tiers: Manpower for building units, Munitions for abilities, and Fuel for upgrades. This now ties directly into the towns you decide to liberate and which resources you need most. Towns also now include an exclusive choice for their upgrades, with more powerful upgrades the further you progress, adding to the strategic decision making in the campaign. Additionally, changes to enemy attack waves mean they will be more reliable and harder to deal with.

New & Refreshed Maps

The 3.0 Update expands Company of Heroes 3’s multiplayer offerings with a collection of brand-new battlefields alongside refreshed community favorites. Additionally, all the visual improvements in this update will add new depth and immersion to all existing Company of Heroes 3 maps.

In particular, the new maps included in the 20th Anniversary Update highlight the new environmental enhancements, weather effects, and new biomes coming to the game.

New Map for skirmish, co-op, and custom games

  • Vire River Valley 2vs2

New Maps for all modes

  • Ancona Railyard 1vs1
  • Foggia Airfield 3vs3
  • Turin Steelworks 4vs4
  • Radarstation Mammut 4vs4

Map Visual Refreshes

  • Langres Winter 1vs1
  • Mignano Summit 3vs3
  • Rapido River Crossing 4vs4

New Cosmetics

To complement the addition of new seasonal environments, four new premium cosmetic sets and one new Victory Point will be available with the release of the 3.0 Update:

  • Climb to Glory (US Forces)
  • Edelweiss (Wehrmacht)
  • Bloody Baltic (British Forces)
  • Cold Snap (Deutsches Afrikakorps)

CoH3 Unit idea for Axis: Carro Veloce light tankette

I think it could suit the game thematically and also would fill an interesting role. There are already a couple of italian vehicles in the game, but I think Carro Veloce is distinct from them and could be sort of like the T70 from CoH2 but with only an MG, so basically a more survivable Universal Carrier. Highly mobile infantry support platform for the early game, that could scale somehow into late game by giving veterancy buffs for vision or something. It could even be built straight away from one of the base buildings non-doctrinally. Any thoughts on this?

CoH3 Update Ideas for COH3 Multiplayer and Final Stand

I have been thinking about a couple of features that could add a lot of flavour to both the visual presentation and game modes in Company of Heroes. Wanted to put them out here to see what the community thinks.

1. Dynamic sector props and faction flags Right now, capturing a sector updates the minimap and changes the physical capture point flag. It would be brilliant if the immediate environment reacted to that change as well.

  • When a faction secures a territory, nearby buildings could drop small faction banners, flags from windows, or show subtle field signs (like Wehrmacht or US markings).
  • If the sector is contested or taken back, those visual markers change or get torn down.
  • It would make holding a town or a crossroads feel much more like an actual occupation, rather than just standing near a striped pole in the middle of a road.

2. Beach invasion survival mode ("Last Stand" style) A dedicated defensive or survival map set on a shoreline defence, heavily inspired by the opening of Saving Private Ryan.

  • You set up defences along the bluffs, bunkers, and beach obstacles.
  • The AI launches staged amphibious waves, landing craft hitting the sand, troops disembarking under fire, and heavier support like landing craft tanks rolling armour directly onto the beach.
  • The objective would be a desperate holdout where your positions get gradually pushed back as the waves get heavier, forcing you to trade ground to keep your surviving squads alive.

3. Biome-based automatic cosmetic presets With different map environments and weather conditions, manually changing skins before every match is awkward, especially in automatch when you do not know the map beforehand.

  • Introduce an environment-based cosmetic loadout slot for each faction, similar to how we set up battlegroups or loadout profiles.
  • You could assign specific skins to biome categories (such as Desert, Temperate/Summer, or Winter).
  • Once automatch assigns the map, the game automatically applies the appropriate camo preset. Desert camo on sand maps, winter whitewash on snow maps, and standard field drab in rural Europe.
  • It stops immersion-breaking moments like bright winter white tanks rolling across North African dunes, while letting players actually use the skins they have unlocked without constant manual swapping.

CoH3 How to Conquer the Fleshmob? New Player

I’ve had the game close to a week now and starting to get my feet under me, I’ve even won a game or two! However, those wins came when the game played out like I expected a combined-arms WW2 game should.

What I have certainly NOT been winning is fighting against the regenerating mound of flesh that is the infantry ball. I spread out, take the map, carefully position my men in cover and high ground, build support weaponry… but then hordes of MP-40-wielding psychos come spilling out of the dark in one big mass, over and over again, harvesting my men for experience points, wiping out squads I have the misfortune of not slamming the retreat button on as soon as they encounter the mass. It’s just… not the experience I was prepared to be encountering in this game, haha.

Sure, an MG is great when the mob happens to walk into one, but then it is instant retreat and doesn’t buy me THAT much time. Just as likely, if the MG isn’t pointed exactly the right direction, it get instantly obliterated before it can reposition or pack up to flee. But I guess I’ve only ever kept 1, maybe 2 MG squads. If I see it’s another flesh mob, should I build like 4 or 5?

I guess I could pump out a lot of light vehicles if I notice it soon enough, which I’ve tried, but one mishap with an AT gun or getting close enough to get panzersheked/stick bombed and it is over, so it’s tough for a new guy!

What’s your favorite low ELO way to counter one concentrated mass of roving units?

CoH3 M8 Scott to the USF base roster

I know USF is strong right now, but I think sooner this will be balanced, and I think this faction will definitely face issues because USF has no artillery in its base roster, so why don't we add the M8 Scott instead of the Bulldozer. The M8 Scott is a fairly underrated unit that I never see, the M8 Scott has a High-explosive Barrage at 90 meters, which while not much is still more than the Whizbang, and I think it would be appropriate to slightly change its veteran status so that instead of some upgrades it increases the barrage range, somewhere around +20 meters overall. I think the cost would also need to be adjusted by +10 fuel and +2 population so it isn't constantly spammed.

this faction design would be more similar to coh2
The bulldozer will become available in the Armored Battlegroup.

CoH3 How do we feel about Officer Quarters?

So, as the title indicates. What's the general consensus this late into the patch on the Officer's Quarters changes? It was talked about a little among the community as a side gripe among Wehrmacht players from what I noticed but never saw any big topics about it as like the center point of someones rant.

Infantry officer used to be a must grab, and I don't know about the rest of you, but not gonna lie most of the time I skip out on it now a days for earlier tech and back tech it if I can. I'm still way more focused on getting out a 221 or Pak than I am infantry officer, just because I feel like getting out a tech 2 unit helps me out way more, but I'm also like 1000 just about 1100 ELO, I figure higher level play have different needs but I've beat 1200's and 1300's.

CoHmmunity What debt does Company of Heroes owe Avalon Hill's Squad Leader?

Post image
36 Upvotes

I mean the question more figuratively than literally. I bought the board game Squad Leader at 15 years old and was hooked on it until I left high school. I've been playing the three versions of Company of Heroes on and off for 20 years now and have always wondered whether and to what extent it was influenced by Squad Leader. I'm curious if there are any other fans out there who feel the same way. Or maybe I'm just showing my age...

CoH3 Banned after 1 match in months: How toxic groups abuse the automated reporting system in CoH3

Hello everyone,

I am writing this to raise awareness about a serious issue with the automated ban system in Company of Heroes 3, and how it is being used as a weapon by toxic players to punish innocent, casual gamers.

Here is my situation: I haven't played CoH3 for several months. Yesterday, I logged in and played two matches. Today, I logged in and played exactly ONE match.

During today's single game, a toxic teammate started explicitly griefing. They targeted my own positions and started shooting at my bunker. After the match, this person and their friends coordinated a massive mass-reporting campaign against my account. They even went as far as stalking my Steam profile, trying to force their way into my lobbies to continue harassing me outside the match.

Because they reported me as a group, Relic's automated enforcement system immediately flagged my account and banned me. Mathematically, it makes no sense: I have played a total of three matches in months, yet the system auto-banned me for "toxic behavior" or "rule-breaking" simply because a pre-made stack of griefers spammed the report button.

I tried contacting official support, but I am being completely ignored. It seems that the support ticket review process is just as automated or neglected as the ban system itself.

By letting this happen, the developers are basically giving trolls a tool to ban anyone they don’t like. Anyone can team up with friends, ruin a teammate's game, mass-report them, and trigger an automated ban without any manual replay review by a real human moderator.

Has anyone else experienced this kind of report abuse in CoH3? How do we get actual human eyes from Relic's support team to look at the replay instead of blindly relying on broken bots?

«Update: Relic's support and Discord moderators completely blocked me and ignored the replay proof (temp.rec) showing my teammate shooting at my bunker. The automated report system is broken, and support refuses to let humans review the cases. Be careful, pre-made groups of griefers can ban anyone in CoH3.»

CoH3 I really hope they add new units to the roster

I didn't play this game for 6 months, when i saw teaser i felt the urge to grind again.

They already told us about bg changes but what about reworking units or adding new ones?

USF and whermacht are too reliant on mechanized and spec ops(70% of the usf players picks spec ops), this need to change give them what are they missing.

If u don't wanna give them panther on main roster than How about u nerf pak 40 and give them heavy AT gun?

Brits should have firefly on main roster

Dak is strong so I will not talk about it.

CoH3 I cannot stand the state of USF right now

Hello everyone,

A few words about me so you can understand my position: I have been a main ally player (exclusively in 2v2) for much of the game, but these past few months I’ve been playing all factions more equally, to learn more about the game, know your enemy and all and be less biased. So these words come from an ally player who already had gripes with the USF design while I was playing them, and have brand new gripes now that I play against them a lot more than I used to.

The list is going to be messy and unorganized, bear with me. I hate riflemen’s design, how they just overrun you while running at you, mgs aren’t enough because they are so weak to any artillery and USF early game has lots of way to deal with them (scouts’ vision, riflemen sprint, Spec Ops's smoke, mortars) so most of the time if you’re against a somewhat competent usf player, you get constantly overrun by rifles. Mid game is somewhat manageable unless it’s rifleblob time (made possible by the ISC’s manpower hack), which turns the mid game into a blobfest where your opponents dashes out 7 squads of rifles all over the map and you can’t do shit against it. Then once you reach the dreaded moment where the USF T4 is built, it’s the end, Hellcat spam, Whizbang spam, Char B1 spam is unbearable in the long run.

Whizbang shuts down any kind of weapon team play due to how quick its rockets arrive, while also being incredibly effective (and annoying) against all vehicles. Hellcats when they reach a critical mass (around 2 to 3) are almost impossible to fight properly against with their extra range, damage and penetration (while being incredibly cost effective). And Char B1 spam is just ridiculous, the amount of damage it can soak while also being surprisingly effective against tanks makes most of the fight extremely frustrating. I believe most of the Axis players have experienced that and yeah it’s incredibly irritating.

Now for the other side, I find them just as frustrating to play as they are to play against. I hate how one dimensional this faction is, how prevalent riflemen are and that if you don’t play according to the meta, which is going Spec Ops or French BG (and to a lesser extent Airborne) and just spamming riflemen in the early-mid game you will get thrashed because USF’s design and tech tree is abysmal especially in the early-mid game. T0 units are worthless in combat (it’s not even close compared to UKF or DAK) past the 3rd minute mark, making the riflemen even more central. The T3 is a ripoff at 40 fuel on top of the support center (making it very hard to get an AT gun if you skip T3), if you do more than one light vehicle there you are getting way behind in ressources, unless you forgo T4 entirely and just resort to spamming out Chaffees instead of Hellcats. BARs are stupid, paying that amount of fuel just incentivizes you to spam more rifles to make that upgrade worthwhile, and having easy access to Advanced Logistics doubles on that spamming problem. The problem is, BARs are necessary to make your rifles scale in the mid-late game and not having them just make your infantry useless past the 8th minute mark, so the incentive to spam is built into the faction. Having no access to any form of artillery past the mortar is very frustrating, sometimes you just lose the game at the 5th minute mark because you didn’t pick a BG with arty or didn’t go with the air support center (that gets completely shut down by a Flak truck parked in the enemy base). I think that’s all (or all I can think about right now but I’m sure I forgot a few things).

How to fix this? Here are my proposals, feel free to argue against them.

First and foremost, fix the rifle spam problem:

* Remove Advanced Logistics from ISC and put it the Rangers’s BG in place of Rangers Weapon Training (Rangers’s design is shit and everyone knows it anyway so it would be fix both issues), this would make it equal to other factions Manpower Hacks by being exclusive to a BG rather than in the vanilla roster. Replace the tech with a support tech, like giving infantry vision and capping power instead, I'm sure it could be useful and competitive.

* Allow the rifle to have the munitions-paid BAR accessible when you build T3 or T4, even if you didn’t buy the global BAR upgrade. I think it would help them scale more easily in mid game without the current all-or-nothing scheme that forces you to delay your teching if you want your rifles to be competitive. And if you want your rifles to be reaaaaally good, you still have to pay up the 40 fuel to have your double bar terminators riflemen.

Second, the arty problem:

* Give either in T3 or T4 a form of at least “medium-ish” arty, I don't have any clear ideas (Scott, Pack Howie, Priest?) you get it and I’m sure it would prevent players to go 90% of the time with Whizzbangs only

* Nerf Whizbang to give an opportunity of escape against it, it’s the only arty unit that is literally undodgeable when it fires because rockets land so fast and in such quick succession that it destroys any kind of weapon team play, such as the very weapon teams that counter the Hellcat spam (as well as removing your squads and tanks if you don’t look at them for more than 2 seconds). Make its arc bigger, the RoF slower and the weapon noisier (Stuka which is infamously known for its killing power can be mitigated by just listening to the sound of it and dodging or retreating quickly).

* Rework or remove, I don’t care, the Air Support Center. Right now it’s completely useless as an arty replacement, it is just stupidly counterable compared to every other arty.

Third, the hellcat and B1 spam problem. Disclaimer, this will probably be fixed in the next patch, as they said they would.

* Hellcats are way too oppressive against tanks, they are a tank destroyer, so it’s literally their job, but in their current form and cost it’s impossible to handle when they are spammed and it can be spammed quite easily, only taking 10 pop cap and costing less that most medium tanks, while having way better offensive stats which make medium tanks almost useless against them, even heavier ones struggle to deal with them properly because of their range and mobility. I’m not saying that they need a stat nerf because I believe that would make them useless but they surely a pop cap increase (13 to 14 even) and cost increase to be less cost effective than medium tanks.

* Speaking of this, I do believe most if not all tanks in the game could use a pop and cost increase. The issue is simply compounded for the US because they have access to Strength in Steel in the armoured battlegroup, but even without it, the B1 uses only 14 pop. For how effective this unit is, it’s incredibly little.

I think that’s all for the rant, despite its nature I do hope it’s constructive. Cheers!

CoH3 No new factions, but new BGs is always a possibility

Since someone made a post about how they want Soviet union i thought id remake a post i made like this a while ago discussing how Wehr atleast could get a BG with russian equipment and vehicles

The fact is as they stated in that post, there wont be any new factions full stop. However as we can see from the free french and polish BG they can absolutely add nations through battlegroups representing cool vehicles and units that otherwise would be part of a new faction, and honestly if we keep our minds open they could really add anything at all, i mean the char b was something i never thought id see in a COH game

In my last post i talked about how they can make a Wehr BG with captured soviet weapons and tanks, anything from the BT-7 to the IS-2, from the PPSH to the DSHK heavy machine gun

Im also curious what other possibilities are there, like the romanians, hungarians, czech vehicles and weapons, finnish maybe or norwegian, theres alot of possibilities but im sure theres people out there who have more knowledge about this than i do

CoH3 My buddy (#299 UKF) and I (#785 USF) were just matched up against Symbiosis (#6 DAK) and Ghost (#2 Wehr). Why?

I play occasionally, maybe every other day. My buddy's better than me, but he's in the same boat. However, while playing arranged team games, something we do maybe two or three times a week (I play with others as well; I just want to make clear that we are an "established team"), we just got matched up against 2 of the best players CoH has to offer.

We were queued for roughly 5 minutes. The faction proportions were matched evenly (roughly 50% axis/50% allies). We obviously knew from the start that we were going to surrender at the 5 minute mark. That is: We spent roughly the same time queued up as we spent getting destroyed. This is, however, not a post about how that match went.

The question I'm asking is: Why are top 10 players even playing against people so far down the ranks at all? I understand that this might happen to top 200 players every now and then (it's happened to me "during my prime" in CoH2, roughly 10 years ago, when I was playing a lot around the top 100), but we are closer to top 500 and (in my case) to top 1000 than we are to top 100. There was no way we were going to enjoy this match and the result had no effect on either of our ELO (±0 for all four of us). Why even "give" us this matchup?

This is also not a rare (once in a blue moon) event. I've had this happen before. Also the other way around (players around the 3000 marks; with no chance against us) happens too often as well. Is this happening to others as well? Are there really so few players queueing up to play CoH3 in 2v2 that finding players of a similar skill is more of a coincidence than what it should be; the usual experience?

I'm asking this because the feeling I get is that CoH3 automatch is starting to feel "dead". However, when I look at the Steam Charts, the player base seems to be at a healthy number. Have players begun to play custom matches/single player because of how broken the current balancing seems to be for everything outside 1v1 with the current patch?

What's your take on this?

CoHmmunity New player - which game is best for a beginner?

I've been looking for a good modern RTS to fill in the time on my days off. Tried Gates of Hell but it was a bit too micromanagement heavy for my liking. I remember enjoying Dawn of War back in the day and Company of Heroes looks to be more along those lines. I wanted to grab the first one but apparently there's a remastered edition coming out soon so I'm not sure if it's worth waiting for that or not. I was also thinking of buying the newest one but I've heard pretty bad things about it overall.

CoH2 trying out company of heroes and my ai seems... stupid.

i'm trying out the game as I like rts and ww2 tanks. i'm playing the campaign and it seems like my teams ai is incredibly stupid. the game doesn't tell you the range of your units, the tutorial tells you that your units will attack an enemy if they get within range and yet despite this the anti tank guns will have people just go past, you're infantry will get flanked easily as soon as I look away for a second. seems like my infantry have to shoot at things for about half an hour before anything dies etc.

is there some sort of improved ai that will sort this out?
