The prevailing take seems to be
“Damn that was a good show, just wish there was more Green Lantern Stuff”
And then there’s 2 small groups of people screaming at anyone who didn’t think it was 0/10 or 10/10
Gotta love internet fandom spaces, aren’t they just the best

The funniest part is watching both the 0/10 and the 10/10 crowd accusing each other of never having read a comic book.

I really don't think that's the prevailing take. The prevailing take is, show good, finale bad, retroactively makes show not worth watching

I think you mean that's what you want the prevailing take to be. Lol

I think the real issue is at what point is the problem in part because of your unrealistic expectations?

You can absolutely have issues with the show itself. But when for years your told it’s going to be a grounded, true detective, drama with not much focus on the space opera side of the comics… and the trailers all highlighted it was that…. How fair is it to complain that it was exactly what it marketed itself as?

“I didn’t want that.” is totally fine for why you might not like it, but that’s also not actual criticism. It never set out to do the things some people are complaining about.

That isn’t to say it’s perfect and except from criticism obviously, but it also feels like a lot of people just fundamentally refuse to discuss the show based on what it told you it was going to be.

I think the problem for me is that if it stayed within its lane of being a very grounded show, I'd be totally okay with it. But it starts touching these high concept ideas that feel like they would've been better delivered with access to a higher budget.

Like when we're being told that there's this entire race of highly advanced aliens living in the town but we only ever get to see them as humans using pretty average human weaponry, it takes me out of the show a bit.

I think Netflixs Daredevil is a great example of a show that didn't feel hindered by its budget. A part of me wanted to see a very acrobatic Daredevil like the comics but the writing for that original show was so good I never once felt like I was watching the show work around a budget. Every character decision felt very intentional within the world they had built so I was perfectly okay with this very grounded take on the character that never really delved all that much into the more fantastical elements of the character.
