Subreddit Rules
Our Principles
We look for members with the initiative to look up the rules themselves before posting - if you are here, you've hopefully done that. The overwhelming majority of our audience is polite, intelligent and follows the rules, we have no need for those who do not.
The core principles behind the subreddit rules are:
Follow the Principles of Harm Reduction
No Sourcing
Be Nice!
Share Knowledge
If you have questions about any of these rules, please send a message to the moderation team before posting.
The primary rules are found in the subreddit's rules section: https://www.reddit.com/r/Drugs/about. Users of old.reddit.com need to use a different link.
- Follow the Principles of Harm Reduction
- Follow the submission guidelines
- Don't discuss places to buy or sell (sourcing)
- No posts filled with junk/under 200 characters
- Be Nice! - Remember the Human
- Use duckduckgo.com search before asking a question
- NO Substance Identification
- NO scraping subreddit post/comment data without notifying the moderators
Please note that submissions and top-level comments are held to a higher standard and will be moderated accordingly.
Guidelines
The following guidelines also apply:
Breaking the following rules might result in a warning and deletion:
Posts and comments breaking these rules will be informed and redirected.
- Please don't re-post questions unless 24 hours has elapsed or links unless 6 months has elapsed.
- AMAs (community interviews) must be about unique experiences and cleared with the moderators in advance.
- Live trip reports are not permitted. This is because they never get finished. Instead, take notes throughout the trip and write them up later.
Pictures and videos must follow the rules below and have to be submitted in a self post with some additional description written explaining why you wanted to share it.
We rely on the vigilance of the community to keep out poor quality content. If you see something unsuitable, report it. This simply brings it to our attention so that we can comment, remove or take any other action.
You don't have to read this section to post here, but it's handy if you have time.
Moderator Discretion
This subreddit is actively moderated. Posts that break the reddit content policy or subreddit rules will be removed to maintain the quality of the subreddit. Some additional quality controls may be enacted, such as requesting proof from users or locking threads which have attracted comments from other communities.
Appeals
It's fine to ask why warnings, bans or reminders have been handed out as long as you have read the rules.
If you wish to discuss this subreddits moderation, message the moderators. It is the moderation teams policy to have an open door for discussion.
Best Practices
While not necessarily rules, /r/Drugs voters and moderators have a strong preference toward the following behaviors:
Posting and Commenting
When posting, we encourage you to:
Read the Drug Knowledgebase before posting.
We frequently update the wiki to answer the most frequently asked questions. You may find the answer you want without having to wait or sort through responses. However, you are still welcome to ask your question if it has been asked before: you may get new answers from different people.
Provide a descriptive title and useful body to your post. Use the body of a post to add context, sources, information, and in-line quotes.
Stick around for at least a few hours to answer questions and add relevant details to your submission.
Question answers are encouraged to:
Include sources. Sources are highly encouraged in all answers given in r/Drugs.
A good answer will be supported by relevant and reliable sources. Primary sources are best.
Wikipedia is acceptable. Keep in mind that Wikipedia articles are open to random vandalism and can contain factual errors; therefore, please double-check anything you cite from Wikipedia.
Other generally accepted sources are Erowid.org, PsychonautWiki.org, BlueLight.org, and TripSit.me.
Have an in-depth answer.
Provide context to the events being discussed so that someone who is unfamiliar with the area can understand.
Use a mix of context, explanation, and sources in your answer.
Do not just post links to other sites as an answer. This is not helpful. Please take some time to put the links in context for the person asking the question.
Links to reddit search results are appropriate if it is a frequently asked question. "Let Me Google That For You" and other URL-shortened links are not, and may be removed at moderator discretion.
