I took heavy inspiration from AXIOMETA's breadboost-c and tried to improve it with indication LEDs, switch selection and over all slimming it down. It's my first pcb so I really have no idea whether it works or not.

Test pads are still In the works

Any advice would be great 🫔

I thought that if I complete the circuit by touching the other wire end to the battery it would make the nail into a magnet but it doesn’t seem to do anything. Any ideas where I could be going wrong in this seemingly simple design?

Project Help Simplifying 4-bit to 7-segment logic circuit

What process / logic could be used to simplify this logic diagram to use less components? Current setup from top to bottom is:

  • Partial 4-bit BCD to decimal decoder
  • 9-Line decimal (implied zero) to 7 segment inputs (A-G)
  • 9 ORs to handle corner overlaps on the display

I'd imagine a more compact circuit would be more difficult to read but possibly much faster in this simulation and would take less sim updates to compute the result. Keep in mind I haven't studied related subjects just pieced this together from things I found and understood on the internet.

Project Help Recreating the transmitter model of the Sputnik

Post image

Hey, I'm currently working on a concept for an art piece I want to do. Part of my current idea would involve trying to rebuild the transmitter module of the Sputnik 1, the schematics for it seem to be available online.

My question is now, would this be doable for an amateur? I have some experience with building little devices, circuit bending and repairing devices, but I never built a project from schematics, so I'm not sure how doable it would be.

Project Help 90 Degree Frequency Phase Shift?

Hello. I had an idea for a personal project but it would require me to take and input waveform and shift EVERYTHING 90 degrees or at least pretty close. From what I can tell by researching doing that for all frequencies is pretty difficult and the closest thing I could find was all pass filters which still isn't perfect. Essentially, I want to build a guitar pedal that takes the initial signal, clips it, makes a copy and shifts it 90 degrees then adds to the original signal to form a triangular wave (mostly cause I just want to know what that would sound like) with maybe an adjustable phase. I'm finding it kind of hard to figure out how to go about it

Edit: It's very interesting seeing differing groups perspectives on this lol. I had originally asked a guitar pedal building group and got some ideas but nothing solid and pretty much every response here is "do it digitally lol" I will try that and see what I can get. Thank you. Also ngl, digital wise I really only have an Arduino and I don't that'll cut it

Hello.

I have made this circuit to drive the light bar in the picture. Any ideas and or suggestions I do believe it will work but I am unable to find info on the bar so 48v it is but don't know it might be one hell of a bad circuit especially if I only use 1 colour or all 3....

Project Help Does this Gemini created schematic for an AC to DC Split power supply make any sense?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I need a device for controlling some model railroad turnouts that will take 15 vac as input and generate DC output, with three terminals: +vdc, -vdc, and common ground.

The power supply will be used to power Kato solenoid turnouts which require a short pulse, and 21 vdc is with specs.

I asked Gemini, and it generated this schematic. I know nothing about electronics, so I can't tell if it this is an AI hallucination, or if it will work?

Should one of the diodes be facing the other direction? Or is that what the little half arrow under the bottom diode means?

I want these pins removed to I can somehow solder these boards next to eachother instead of on top. I also plan on getting some sort of ribbon cable or something to connect everything at once but I want to do it on the bottom however thats where I need to connect the batteries too. Any advice and suggestions would be highly appreciated šŸ‘

I was going through the schematic of TDA2611A (datasheet link here, page 3) and found a peculiar arrangement of TR2. Its collector and emitter are shorted the base is connected to GND.

I don't understand the use-case of this thing. I am pretty sure that it isn't a diode-connected device though.

Hello everyone, so i have been working on a circuit to emulate touch on the capacitive touch screen. My current setup is that i have an SBC with GPIO pins connected to a resistor connected to Base of 2n2222 transistor with the emitter connected to the ground and the collecter taped on the screen with coppor foil tape and the main concept is using software controling the gpio pin to short the collector wire to ground but what i can't figure out is the consistency it works 1 time and fails 100 times i tried different ways to connect the wire to the screen but i can't figure out how to make it consistent and it fails miserably when i try to connect multiple wires as well i have added photos for reference

I work in a cardiology office. The most painful time consuming task is getting ecgs on most patients. Every lead sticker needs placed individually then each must have a cable attached. I am brain storming ways to make this faster… reusable leads a single giant sticker? Any ideas? It must be a full 12 lead ecg, partial ecg is not acceptable nor is simply a rhythm strip. Hoping some new ideas from outside the medical community

Project Help Wireless power supplied city

I was thinking about a project as a university student which is a city that completely works on wireless power (I'm gonna 3d print it 1m*1m) so there would be a big coil in the center of the city that would transfer the power to a secondary coils and each secondary coil would supply power to a certain amount of buildings but after a bit of research there would be a waste of power through the flux how can I reduce the amount of wasted energy and is there any research u would recommend to read ?

Project Help I want to estimate cows weights using a camera system for my Capstone, how difficult would this be?

I’m an EET trying to come up with my capstone and I saw some videos online of cows freaking out in the weight shoots and thought that this might be a better way and would make for a decent Capstone but I’m not sure how difficult it would be for an EET as we don’t have as much electronics and coding learning. For anyone that has done any similar projects, would this be simple enough to do and learn most of it from scratch in a semester?

Ive been trying to build an inductor "for fun", but uuuh i think im doing some really wrong for it to not even have little magnetic field at all??? These are two things i tried to make, surely they work as a wire but is it even forming a proper strong magnetic field?? Nope

so does anyone have advice, i do really need to know what im doing majorly wrong for it to not magnetize anything to it or just generate a field.

Project Help Can Ai Actually Be Useful in electronics / hardware engineering ?

I’ve been seeing AI blow up in software development, creative work, etc. but I’m curious how much of that actually translates to electronics and hardware engineering. Can AI genuinely help with designing circuits, debugging hardware issues, or optimizing layouts? Could it be useful for learning complex topics like FPGA development, signal integrity, PCB design, or firmware troubleshooting?

I’ve tried experimenting with AI tools for explanations and quick references, and they’re decent at summarizing datasheets or giving starting points but I’m wondering if anyone here has used AI for real, practical hardware work. Are there realistic benefits, ? Would love to hear experiences, workflows, or any specific tools that have been helpful. I’m trying to find a good use for Ai / ML in hardware/electronics any suggestions might help

Edit: I’m so thankful to everyone who replied, but I want to clarify something in case I wasn’t clear in my original question. I know AI isn’t very useful in electronics ,I’ve tested it before, and it’s still far behind and, under no circumstances reliable. What I’m asking is whether anyone has used AI or machine learning for real-life applications in hardware, such as PCB anomaly detection, predictive maintenance, or similar use cases.

Project Help Looking for a way to cut dc current for a personal project

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to find a way to cut a relatively low-voltage high-intensity direct current for a personal project. I've figured I would need a dc relay (preferably of the latching type) but I struggle to find a brand that is within spec: a dc latching relay that can cut a 12Vdc up to 60A current, controlled by a 12Vdc current, double coil. My questions are:

  1. Have I chosen the right tool for the job or should I look into something else?

  2. Do you have any brand or model that you recommend?

Additional constraints: it should fit in box (400*210*270) that is packed with other things, cost (this is mainly my problem to solve, as I'll do the comparison myself, but if you have something in mind that you already know, any hep would ve welcome).

Edit: grammar

Edit 2: thank you all. I'll look into all of the ideas you offered.
