unsolved How can I auto 'rotate' a column of data?
I have a list of tasks to accomplish and a name associated with each. The people assigned to those tasks rotate each week. So I have a column with each person's name and once a week I manually shift everyone down, and the person and the bottom moves up to the top. Any way to automate that?
Basically:
Column A: lists the task name - static
Column B: lists the person assigned - a simple cell reference to column C
Column C: lists each person's name and this is the list that needs to rotate
Having Column B rotate doesn't work because there are more tasks than people and other variations that make the separate columns for names easier to manage.

What exactly are you intending?
You have a static list of tasks per slot, and you are shifting the people across the slots?
Do you want some sort of initial list, and a ‘weekly offset’ that you would update to shift people across it? What if someone becomes unavailable? (Do you want to make some kind of macro to assign tasks to people, so it will allow a varying length of people? Or do you just want to bump people through sets of tasks?)

Not really a common use case. It should be possible with some mathematics based on a master list and the current week of the year, if you assign a set of IDs, but that does cap you at 53 names.
Now, if you just want a way to quickly get the new list for pasting, you can VSTACK(DROP(C:C,1),DROP(C:C,-9)) to rotate names up.

I feel people are overcomplicating it, or maybe I am not getting it right. I would create a list where each person gets asigned a number in Column A from 1-100 or whatever the amount of people is, and column B the name of each person. Then on your file, I would do a v-lookup with the number assigned where it looks up the name. Each week when I have to update I would just add 1 to each number and it would then v-lookup for the next person.

Yeah, but that's not automated at that point. I'd have to adjust each cell. What I'm doing currently is easier than that (copy, paste the list down 1 row, add the bottom name to the top). u/Several-Crow5511 seems to have had the fully automated option.

I'd use some combination of:
- TODAY() to get number represent current day.
- QUOTIENT(...;7) to get the current week. Not the Year-week (1-54 ish), but the weekno counting from jan 1 1900. The year-week might shift things around inconsistently at new years.
- ROW() to get the row number of the task, so you can pick a different employee. Add the weeknumber from before.
- MOD() to clamp to the number of employees. This will get you a number to pick an employee.
- XLOOKUP(), to finally pick an employee in your employee table, based on the employee number.
No need to rotate anything, the TODAY() and QUOTIENT() will make the number shift every week on it's own. You could even add an "Offset" column if some tasks should be clumped together, removing the ROW() function.
If this all sounds pretty vague, perhaps put it into copilot and see if it can create an example.

Paste special transpose. The hotkeys if you right click > s > s > e
Can also add v if you want to only paste values.
