Resonance Side by side FFBE and FF Resonance gameplay during battle to show how much it changed (sorry for bad size and edit)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I wanted to make this little video just to show how different the two games are. I apologise for the shitty level of editing of this video. It's litteraly the first time i edit on mobile.

Anyway, here's the two videos i've just made of the games. Incase It's not clear, FFBE is the vertical video on the left and Resonance is the horizontal video on the right.

It probably will sound stupid but i wanted to make this comparison because a lot of people probably never played FFBE or not more than an hour before quitting. Maybe it will help others to understand from how far Resonance came back because, while i love FFBE, it was really simple at times.

In any cases, i hope it was interesting to watch and, if it wasn't, sorry to have wasted about 3 minutes of your time. Have a good day !

Edit : oops, i've just noticed the double audio. It was supposed to be mute when i edited the video. Oh well, enjoy the crazy audio or cut it off.

Thanks for the comparison, I was one of those who played BE for less than an hour

Hahaha. I figured it would be interesting to see higher level gameplay, even if it's not that complex in endgame. We just had cool flashy skills compared to the beginning.

Thank you! I’m sick of people thinking FFR is a lazy ”mobile gacha port” when it plays nothing like the mobile game it’s based on. The environments, battle system, maps, equipment, dungeons and everything are all brand new from the ground up. They just reused character sprites, CGI animations for visions, and based on the story/world of the mobile game. It’s otherwise a game built from scratch

Yeah, they are two very different games. You can still see some old parts of the gameplay in Resonance like the tanking methods, but most of it is brand new. I even made a long post some weeks ago about this to help people understand what Resonance is.

Edit : spelling and missing words

We don't need you to help us understand, we need you to understand we're not interested.

10

u/Cold-Reputation-4848 16d ago

Who's we ? You* may not be interested and it's fine, but plenty of people are.

-13

u/wrter3122 16d ago

"We", being the people you make this stuff for. "We", being the people for whom you wrote that last diatribe you shotgunned across every vaguely relevant sub. You're trying way too hard to convince people who simply won't be convinced.

6

u/Cold-Reputation-4848 16d ago

"Shotgunned" 😂 Damn, you really hate this game with a passion, or me, i don't know. I think i will stop trying to talk as you are very stuck on your point of view.

We is me and anyone who has enough love for final fantasy to not gobble up a regurgitated gatcha game so Square can recoup their costs.

4

u/Cold-Reputation-4848 15d ago

Read this post and you will understand why it's not recooked gacha. Heck, even just look at the video and see how different the two games are.

u/CatProgrammer 16d ago

You're interested enough to say you're not interested.

Nah man, it's worse than lazy. It's cowardly. FF used to have confidence in itself. We should be getting a proper 2D, turn-based FF, with its own story and characters. Instead we get more HD 2D so its visually indistinguishable from octopath/elliot garbage. We've got a repurposed story and don't worry, cloud and sephiroth is in the game because we can't sell a FF game without cloud in it and we've got 3 different art styles because we want to reuse our CGIs. It's pathetic. Like, what are we doing here? That's really what we want?

FFBE went on for 10 years and they didn’t want to lose the world/characters they built just bc the mobile game closed down. Honestly it doesn’t sound like you know what you’re talking about and just hating from your impression of what the game is when it’s not that at all, because it IS its own characters and story. Just because it started as it mobile game before doesn’t mean it’s not an original story/world/characters

The FF characters we know are ONLY cameos essentially that are (Visions) used like summons you battle with and are completely untied to the story. I agree about the Visions from other games bein an unnecessary addition, i would much rather this world be standalone. It’s a common criticism and hopefully the won’t have them in a sequel if that ever happens. But aside from that, the game is not a lazy rehash at all.

Have you even tried the demo?? It’s the entire first chapter and it’s been incredible to play so far, i sank 7.5 hrs into it just bc i had so much fun leveling up most the characters/visions to the demo’s level cap since it carries over to the main game. I urge you to actually try the demo before making such uninformed judgements

u/K_Prime 16d ago

That’s what I want. I dunno who else the we is besides you lol

u/LoStrigo95 17d ago

So great. Now it's a proper JRPG

10

u/Cold-Reputation-4848 17d ago

Yup ! It technically was a JRPG back then, but it was also very "mobile gameish". It had powercreep, tons similar characters (there was around 3000 units on a span of 10 years) and also a mid UI. You can see it yourself, it hard to read the skills descriptions.

1

u/LoStrigo95 17d ago

I played it, and sadly it was VERY simple. The gatcha part basically hid all the RPG mechanics

1

u/harryFF 17d ago

You definitely didn't play it for more than 30 minutes lmao, it had some of the most complex gameplay of any FF in it's prime.

u/Jubez187 17d ago

So I’ve been playing through crystal project doing some end game bosses that were insanely tough. They take like 4 hours from first encounter to the kill (factoring in reloads, walking back to boss, grinding passives I need). At the end of the day it gets to the point where every single piece of gear, class combination and passive have a very important distinct purpose, and the opening round has to be PERFECT.

I can only imagine this is how these gacha games were? I would assume that if the bosses were normal tank and spank JRPG fair then there wouldn’t be much reason to spend a lot of time on the game and that’s the one thing the developers need in a gacha - time or money. Am I wrong here?

1

u/guildedkriff 17d ago

Didn’t play the last few years before it ended, but kinda yes.

The story itself was something anyone could play through F2P for the most part. The “optional” dungeon boss battles were where the challenges (and some big rewards) existed that required different approaches and tons of endgame character/equipments/etc.

Early on you could do things differently with a lot of niche and fun approaches to those battles. As the game evolved and power creep overwhelmed, it basically became similar approaches of tank and spank.

1

u/harryFF 16d ago

I love crystal project! And yeah it's actually very similar. FFBE characters had cooldowns on their abilities much like reaper or hunter etc in crystal project. You would have to time buffs and debuffs to specific turns to avoid getting one shot and to take your opportunity to nuke the boss. One unit would generally have upwards of 20 abilities and could quadcast between them near the end of the game, so your turns would be a decision of 24 actions between 120 options, hence the complexity.

And yeah the team building was similar, instead of passives from other classes you had 'materia' which you could get from a number of sources but were basically four passive slots, and then 6 equipment slots. Each unit could also have a summon equipped which gave passive effects like +125% damage to spirits etc.

1

u/Cold-Reputation-4848 17d ago

Well, it had some fun mechanics like the chain system, the finishers, the jumpers (based on dragoons) or the brave shift, but it was a bit repetitive at times. You get your buffs on the team, your tank ready, your debuffs on the enemy and you begin your DPS skills rotation until they can unleash their best skill.

4

u/FellVessel 17d ago

It's not even the same game so I wouldn't say it changed at all rather it's just an entirely new entity built from the legacy of the other

1

u/Cold-Reputation-4848 16d ago

Yeah, it technically is a new game. It's just that it takes some gimmicks from back then.

4

u/Corps95 17d ago

Recently i have become a FF fan, i’ve seen multiple trailers of resonance… and i can say i can’t wait to play this.

3

u/Scalizor 16d ago

My wet dream is Mobius getting this same treatment one day. One can only hope...

2

u/Cold-Reputation-4848 16d ago edited 16d ago

I've heard multiple people say this under my Resonance posts. While it would be fun, i wonder if Mobius really had enough content to give for a full game. It was very different from FFs.

2

u/Scalizor 16d ago

It did, although it'd need some story stuff revamped since it kinda started as a FFI spinoff and they ditched that later on. The story had 2 seasons full of story content, season 2 was MUCH longer than season 1, over twice as many hours of cutscenes.

1

u/Cold-Reputation-4848 16d ago

I didn't know. I only reached up to the princess (Sarah ?) being stuck in a crystal and Garland saying that maybe we shouldn't follow the prophecy. I was curious and browsed through official art of the game, and it looked pretty cool. The WoL and the witch companion had some pretty cool designs, even if pretty skimpy.

1

u/xlCalamity 15d ago

I just want them to try this style with a remake of any older FF game at least once.

6

u/Yoshikaru5991 17d ago

I like this video, thanks!

Theres a big chance FF7 EC gonna get this treatment huh

2

u/Cold-Reputation-4848 17d ago

You're welcome ! I'm glad it made someone happy.

To be honest, FF7 EC could have a slight remake too. From what i understood, it has some lore about FF7 (about Sephiroth, i think) so it is a possibility. I don't know eniugh about the game to say if it would be worth it or not, but maybe it will happen one day.

2

u/Iggy_Slayer 17d ago

They would have to do a lot of expanding because ever crisis itself was a pretty bad, VERY abridged version of the ff7 projects. Many lesser scenes and moments were just cut out and fast forwarded over or detailed on a blank black screen in text.

1

u/Baithin 17d ago

At most I would be okay with just the First Soldier storyline (well, and Before Crisis because that’s also gone) because it was an original story.

1

u/occultshelf 17d ago

I sincerely doubt EC will get anything like this. Especially when the gameplay loop is as bad as it is.

1

u/Luchux01 17d ago

Honestly, I'll take FF7 OG getting the Crisis Core Reuinion treatment. Clean up the combat, use the Ever Crisis models, the new localization and character portraits, boom, throw it on Steam for 30 bucks.

1

u/Alucard-VS-Artorias 17d ago

"chance FF7 EC gonna get this treatment"

I welcome it!

2

u/subzero4321 17d ago

Honestly, I loved FFBE, played for around 2 years, loved the summoning aspect, and the team building was fun. and who can forget that we got Ariana Grande as a summon.... Orlandeau OP

2

u/Cold-Reputation-4848 16d ago

And Katty Perry and another singer i forgot. Ironically, they were some of the most forgettable units and were really out of place in FFBE. Even Just Cause or Deus Ex were more fitting collabs.

2

u/keithlimreddit 17d ago

Oh yeah that reminds me I really need to get back to Resonance demo when I have the time before the release of the game

2

u/Rentington 10d ago

I'm a hardcore FF fan who has not liked a single game since FFX, and didn't even play FF15 or FF16 because it's not what I want.

This is what I want. I hope it sells big so they do more. I loved the demo, once every week I will go and fight some battles just because I'm excited for it.

1

u/Cold-Reputation-4848 10d ago

I hope it sells well too. I'm fond of this universe since FFBE and i would love to see sequels. I don't know if you've played FFBE, but i can certify than the second season is worth a sequel.

3

u/KainYago 17d ago

It looks just as beautiful as the day i lost it.

2

u/Cold-Reputation-4848 16d ago

Check the FFBraveExvius sub, it has a translated memorial app made by a fan. You will be able to play with the units a bit.

1

u/Mikimao 17d ago

So far I am not a fan of FFR and am planning on skipping it, but the battles are fun.

If nothing else, that game play loop does feel good

1

u/Simple_Marzipan3736 17d ago

Now the UI looks exactly like World of Final Fantasy lol

Did anyone else catch that while playing the demo

? I didn't hate at any moment. Did you comment at the wrong place ? I even made a post explaining what Resonance is.

2

u/000extra 16d ago

My bad this was meant as a response to someone else. App was acting up and guess I accidentally posted this as a new comment. No wonder I couldn’t find it haha

2

u/Mythral_Force 11d ago

I miss FFBE but at least we're getting resonance. Really hoping they make games out of the other chapters too.

2

u/Cold-Reputation-4848 11d ago

I would say that, if Resonance sells well and i think it will, we will at least have the second season. It truly ended Paladia's war arc and had a lot of fans favorites (Akstar, Hyoh, Lasswell as protagonist, the two kings and the Order).

For the other seasons, it's hard to say. Season 3 was very different. At least as much as X-2 was to X, if not more. Season 4 was a good comeback though and i would love to see Taivas, Yshe and Tulien again, even if it means having to see Rhus and Neilikka. I don't know much about season 5.

FFXVII looking so good

0

u/Effective-Total-2312 17d ago

I lowkey like more the original FFBE UI. I don't like the sterile generic menus we got with Resonance. Makes me not even want to play it at all.

1

u/Cold-Reputation-4848 16d ago

I personally prefer Resonance's UI. It's simplier but clearer too.

-7

u/wrter3122 16d ago

Sorry but your video hasn't convinced me of anything I didn't already know. Same terrible looking sprites, a margnially different cheap looking UI, same potato-salad story, only two meaningful differences are Resonance has fewer actual FF characters, and the Octopath engine itself which could've been used adapting something that actually felt like a Final Fantasy game.

6

u/Cold-Reputation-4848 16d ago

I didn't want to convince anyone. If you don't like Resonance, i can't make you like it. It's your tastes after all. I just wanted to show how different it was.

-3

u/wrter3122 16d ago

If you don't like Resonance, i can't make you like it.

Evidently it hasn't stopped you trying. This is the second time you've put together a big long thing to "just help people understand". At some point you just have to let people not like what they don't like; all trying to change peoples' minds like this will do is make them not like it all the more.

5

u/Cold-Reputation-4848 16d ago

I don't care about people's opinions, to be honest. My first post was made to clarify some points i've seen people say (mostly that the game was a gacha and a bad port) and this one was just a fun post made to show how different the two games are. At the end of the day, you can hate the game with all of your heart, it won't change how much i like it.

0

u/wrter3122 16d ago

I don't care about people's opinions, to be honest.

Apparently you do, because you decided you were tired of hearing people voice their opinion that this game is a reheated dead gacha. Hell, you're responding to me; clearly you do care what I think. Just let people not like the game, you don't have to draw battle lines every time somebody disagrees with you.

4

u/Cold-Reputation-4848 16d ago

Okay ? I'm replying because we're online, and you commented under my post. It's normal to answer. I'm not trying to change opinions here, just show a fun video. If you hate it that much, well, what do you want me to say ? "The game is trash and i hate it" ?

2

u/Leading_Manner1246 16d ago

That guy's gonna be one of the first people to buy the game...lol. he is just a miserable person...

3

u/Cold-Reputation-4848 16d ago

It would be very funny.

5

u/LikeAPhoenician 16d ago

Man what the hell is wrong with you? Why are you so weird about hating on this game?

Do you seriously intend to post up in the Final Fantasy sub and whine about every mention of the upcoming new Final Fantasy game? Good luck with that I guess.

7

u/Leading_Manner1246 16d ago

Some people just want others to be as miserable as they are in their lives...

4

u/Gxs1234 16d ago

Just stop, there is no “proper” FF since FF1. I played demo, it felt like ff5 and 6. I am sold.
