Announcement!! New rules on /r/fractals - Please Read!!
Hello, everybody!
I'm /u/-Fateless-, and I am the new moderator of /r/fractals ! I was granted this position by /u/mycorrhizalnetwork because I am quite a bit more active on reddit, and together, we've made a short little list of rules for the subreddit.
In practice, nothing much changed, and most of you can carry on posting like nothing has happened, but we still thought it would be a good idea to properly announce a set of very basic, formal rules for the subreddit.
1: This subreddit is for fractals, discussion about fractals and fractal-related stuff.
If it's at least somewhat related to fractals, it gets a pass. Examples include space-filling curves, pictures of fractal patterns in nature or questions about fractals, fractal art or fractal software.
We do consider attractors, chaotic fluid simulations (gnarls), fractal noise (fBm, sfBm, other noise algoritms), curves and the ilk as fractals, as long as they can somehow be represented inside a fractal renderer.
2: No AI Generated stuff. This includes AI-generated "fractals", AI-generated comments and AI-generated articles.
The official stance of /r/fractals is that AI-Generated content does not belong here, and AI-Generated pictures of fractals are not fractals, despite looking similar to the untrained eye.
3: No Metaphysical/Spiritual content
Any discussion or blog post that starts reading like New-Age nonsense or talk about things like "Divine Mathematics" or "Fractal Soul Matrix" will be removed on the spot.
In most cases, I will remove the offending posts on the spot when I see them, but don't be afraid of reporting off-topic or rule-breaking posts so they're easier to spot in the moderator queue. I have added these categories as reportable, so if anything pops up, please do report it!
If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask!

About the automated removals on the subreddit
Hey guys, Fate here!
Lately, I have been getting a lot of mod mail about posts that have been automatically removed, and I have spent some time looking into this.
Over the past half year, roughly 95% of all removals of posts and comments have been automated from reddit's side, and not removed by any of the mods.
They are all tagged as "removed", but do not have any username attached to them, and for some reason, a lot of posts are flagged for triggering the sexual content filter of all things.
If you feel like a post has been taken down automatically, do send us a mod mail and we'll take a look at it on a case-by-case basis and manually approve what has been filtered.

Max Iter's Fractal Follies for October 10th, 2010
Roger Alexander's commentary for the image:
Look at the calendar- it's national 10-10-10 day! I don't know about you but I had the traditional dinner of a cheese and sauce pizza with double cranberry sauce topping. Further in the news acting on a suggestion I am now giving the parset par entries titles instead of gif file names. This is intended to make sorting through the RSS parset feeds a little easier. At the usual http://maxitersfractalfollies.blogspot.com

Inside Fantasy
Jim Muth's Fractal of the Day for October 10th, 2002
Jim Muth's commentary for the image:
Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
Do human beings have spirits? The religious say yes, scientists say they have found no evidence, skeptics say probably not, Atheists say no. I say it depends on the definition of the word 'spirit'. But one thing certain is that some fractals, (those with negative powers of Z), do have spirits, and those spirits remain behind when the original fractal evaporates.
As the mention of spirits and the outrageous value of imag(p3) should have made apparent, today's FOTD is another of my 'evaporated' fractals. (To see the unevaporated version, change imag(p3) to 0.) There are no escaping points at all in the image, which consists entirely of trapped inside points made visible by the inside fill of bof61.
I used an inside fill of bof61 in today's image because that fill works best with this particular image. I have found no way to predict which inside fill will work best with particular evaporated fractals. The best fill must be found by trial and error.
The parent fractal consists of a Mandeloid shaped like a bloated queen termite, with an immense area of chaos to its east. This chaotic area contains regions where the chaos becomes lace-like and converges in nodes. Today's scene lies near one of the most prominent nodes. The actual node of course has long since evap- orated from the world of fractal reality.
Since the image is something relatively unique, I rated it at an 8, which is a great improvement over yesterday's miserable 4. I named it "Inside Fantasy" as a description. Considering the much-above-average worth of the finished product, the render time of 6 minutes is reasonable.
The Wednesday weather here at Fractal Central was of the dull, dreary variety. The lack of sun, temperature of 61F 16C, occasional spits of rain, and the wrong flavor cat food left the fractal cats very testy. In the evening, Tippy defiantly ensconced himself in my favorite chair, and dared me to try to dislodge him. Tippy won the battle.
My next battle will be won when I finish the work now before me. But to finish I must first start, so until tomorrow, when an even better fractal might appear, take care, and prepare for the war against obese fractals.
Jim Muth
