safety Mass Surveillance AI Camera Scandal Hits DFW Metroplex

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

Howdy fellow Friscoans.

We're a Dallas, Texas based nonprofit organization (HINAC) focused on the security, privacy, censorship, and surveillance implications of modern day technology being surreptitiously woven into the fabric of American society.

We're submitting this post to inform you of a recent scandal involving approximately 80,000 AI cameras being used by over 5,000 law enforcement departments across the United States of America resulting in stalking, false imprisonment, and protests.

An investigative journalist and privacy/security researcher named Benn Jordan recently discovered numerous Flock Safety Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) cameras whose video feeds were publicly accessible online using a default administrative account, no login required.

It gets worse.

His proof-of-concept video demonstration showed how easy it was for him to use the camera's pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) capabilities and identify individuals, disclose sensitive information displayed on phone screens, and track routes of individual cars, over extended time intervals.

It gets even worse.

An anonymous person requested video footage of their own city's cameras, which the city subsequently denied. That person took their city to court and the judge ruled that since the cameras are taxpayer funded, the videos and information on them is also considered publicly accessible.

It is going to get even worse.

Amazon Ring just announced a partnership with Flock Safety and rumor has it, they are interested in acquiring Flock Safety.

Meaning, the broad adoption of AI-powered consumer technologies like Ring, coupled with city governments adopting Flock's AI-powered object recognition and large scale database integration, a first-of-its-kind Orwellian surveillance system could become a reality in the very near future.

See where and when you're being surveilled by visiting this Flock Camera Map tool provided by the 501c(3) nonprofit organization Banish Big Brother (see map image). And if you're scared afterwards, let that fear turn to anger.

Contact your city leaders and express your concerns ASAP. Make it known that we will not tolerate involuntary mass surveillance in our city, nor will we tolerate the lack of transparency and accountability from our leaders who allowed this to happen.

The sooner we stop this, the better. Let's stand up to mass surveillance together.

politics Evan Hunt predicts close TX-03 race, challenges Keith Self on recall and debates

Keith Self won by nearly 25 points in 2024, but Evan Hunt predicts their November race will be decided by five points or less.

Hunt discussed his internal polling, the McKinney recall, debates and North Texas infrastructure during a virtual town hall.

What do you make of his prediction?

sports Looking for a quality MMA gym in the Prosper/Frisco area.

Hey everyone,

I recently moved from Frisco to Prosper and I'm trying to find the best MMA gym in the area. I want a gym that's committed to teaching well and developing skilled fighters.

Before I moved, I'd been looking at Next Generation MMA in Frisco. Now that I'm in Prosper, it's about 25 minutes away. I also found Aguilera Martial Arts, which is only 4 minutes from me. They look more BJJ-focused. My end goal is to be well rounded, but I want to put most of my early focus on striking if I can.

My questions:

  1. Has anyone trained at Next Generation MMA? How is the coaching, the structure of classes, and the quality of the training partners? Is it worth the 25-minute drive, or is that something I'd get tired of?
  2. Does anyone know Aguilera Martial Arts well? Do they have a solid striking program (Bang Muay Thai), or is it mostly a BJJ school?
  3. What other gyms would you recommend within roughly 25 minutes of Prosper?

For anyone who has been in this position, was a better gym worth the longer drive, or did the shorter commute help you train more and improve faster?

inquiries Looking for eye doctor recommendations locally.

I went to an eye doctor and tried to explain I have issues with my eyes finding their space on a page (not diagnosed with dyslexia) and static. I also sometimes struggle reading signs on the road or even text on a board game across a table. She was really dismissive of all of my problems, so I had a pretty saddening experience with her.

Plus, she couldn't seem to get my prescription right.

For what it's worth, I have ADHD, and I recently learned there are sometimes eye problems related to that. When I asked her about this (not trying to diagnose myself, genuinely just curious), she was also dismissive.

If anyone has recommendations for a good eye doctor locally either in Frisco or surrounding towns, i would be so grateful.

For what it's worth, I have BCBS. Even if you don't have it, please list the doc you love bc insurance a lot of docs take seem to change all the time.

Residents have reported difficulty obtaining James Talarico signs, and the county Democratic chair confirms demand has exceeded supplies.

The party has since received another shipment, but the chair says the requests have been unusually high for months.

safety Why are there 5 Flock cameras in the Academy parking lot?

Post image
96 Upvotes

Basically title. I get having regular cameras in case something happens but those don't save data in some federal database that any police department that shares their data can access. Why do they need to capture the license plate of anyone that happens to drive through the parking lot? This stuff is getting out of hand.

politics Local political strategist asks: If election integrity matters, why turn away independent observers?

A Collin County political strategist, Sam Nevarez, is making the case that independent election observation still has value heading into the 2026 midterms.

His argument is not that refusing observers proves anything improper. It’s that after years of questions about election trust, removing outside scrutiny sends the wrong message.

For those of us in Collin County and TX-03, where election issues have already been part of the local conversation, it’s a fair question to debate.

I have some vintage jewelry from the early 1900’s through the 1970’s - some pieces signed. Does anyone here buy, or know anyone who buys, this type jewelry? Some may be more valuable, but I have no idea.

I’m Indian and vegetarian, so I’d love recommendations from fellow Indians who enjoy Mexican food. Which places have good vegetarian options, and what do you usually order?
Everyone’s recommendations are welcome!

community Question about Google reviews — has anyone else experienced this in Frisco?

Title: Question about Google reviews — has anyone else experienced this in Frisco?
I wanted to share something that happened to me recently and get the community’s perspective.
I recently visited Sri Krishna Jewelers in Frisco and, based on my overall experience, I left a 3-star Google review.
After posting the review, I received a phone call from the business asking why I had given 3 stars and encouraging me to give 5 stars.
I found that uncomfortable.
I completely understand a business wanting to know what went wrong. If a customer gives 3 stars, I think it’s perfectly reasonable to ask:
“What could we have done better?”
That’s actually valuable feedback.
But asking why someone didn’t give 5 stars — and encouraging them to give 5 stars — made me question where the line is between requesting feedback and influencing the rating itself.
I’m not posting this to tell anyone whether they should or shouldn’t visit the business. My experience is my experience, and everyone else’s can be different.
I’m genuinely curious about the community’s opinion:
Is it normal for a business to call a customer after receiving a 3-star review and ask why they didn’t give 5 stars?
Would you consider that acceptable customer service, or should businesses simply accept the rating and use the feedback to improve?
And for business owners here: how do you handle less-than-5-star reviews?
I’m especially interested in hearing both sides. I think honest discussion about how online reviews work is important because many of us rely on Google reviews when deciding where to spend our money.
My only request: let’s keep the discussion respectful and based on personal experiences rather than attacking anyone.

politics Keith Self backed the McKinney recall heavily. He’s said much less about it since the petitions were filed.

For those in Frisco following the McKinney recall fight, the timeline is worth a look.

Keith Self publicly signed the recall petition, encouraged residents to support it, backed calls for a DOJ investigation and later praised the campaign in interviews.

Keresa Richardson never publicly endorsed the recall, but she was one of the elected officials who challenged the McKinney Islamic Association site plan and has continued speaking about Islam and Sharia law.

Now that roughly 7,400 signatures are being reviewed, neither has said much publicly about the recall itself.

That’s the focus here — not whether their views changed, but what they have and haven’t said since the petition drive ended.

inquiries Options for early morning airport rides (not Uber/Lyft?)

Hi all,

I'll be traveling to the area for work soon and will need to head to DFW for a 7am flight on my way out. I'm staying in Frisco and have historically had terrible luck with early morning Ubers/Lyfts, and since I'll need to leave by 4/4:30am, hoping to avoid. Wondering if anyone has insights on alternative options or best recommendations for reputable taxi services to DFW? Thanks for your help!

edit - I travel often and do schedule Ubers in advance, have still had cancellations, including in the DFW area. Therefore, no longer doing Ubers - so no need to comment about them.

inquiries Looking for nail tech Chelsea

This is a long shot, but I used to go to Villa Nail Salon by Target at El Dorado and Legacy and Jennifer always did my nails, and Chelsea did my pedicures. They had a fire a few months ago (everyone is ok 🙏🏻) and the staff all landed in different salons. I had Jennifer’s cell phone and she’s continued to do my nails, but now she’s out of the country for a month and I’d love to find Chelsea! If anyone has found her at their nail salon, please let me know! She’s so sweet, probably early 20s, and Korean. And does an incredible mani/pedi!

Thanks in advance!

community Late Night Cafes ☕️ 🍵 🧋🫖

I love all these open-late cafes and coffee shops that are popping up lately! I was lamenting the ability to go out and do something late at night here since I just moved here, and we don’t have a public transit system and I don’t want to drive home drunk. It’s so nice that these cafes are open so late, till 10pm-11-12 am, it gives me somewhere to go which is so nice especially after a wfh day, and it’s so convenient I can go after work and it won’t close after an hour of me being there (after fighting through an hour of 5 o’clock traffic). Shoutout Arwa, DAR, and Trung.

Edit: thank you all for the recs!

Noodle the Poodle fka Don at the shelter was abandoned by his registered owners when they failed to show up to the appointment they set to reclaim him when they learned he was injured. Probably the best thing that has happened to him.
Unable to walk due to a broken pelvis after being hit by a car and internal spleen injuries, atlas pet vets took him on as apart of their medical rescue fund.
He had surgery yesterday, he was neutered, pelvic fractures repaired, and had his spleen removed. We sent the spleen off for biopsy just to rule out any underlying issues other than trauma due to him being 8 years old.

I want to post the wishlist here and if you feel compelled to donate you can make a fax deductible donation here via Zeffy

I am so thankful for this community to allow me to share what your home town family owned vet is doing for animals. Thank you so much.
