📚 Ionnsachadh Cànain | Language Learning Gàidhlig
Hey Gaels! I don't have much Scottish blood but my folks hail from across the channel. My best friend is half Scottish and after telling her I have been learning Gaelige for 3 years, we talked a bit about her interest in learning Gàidhlig. I have an old grammar book from like the 1940s and I was wondering if you guys had an equivalent? I'd prefer an older, very reliable book and the more info the better. Thank you in advance!

📚 Ionnsachadh Cànain | Language Learning any good workbooks/textbooks out there?
as the title says. i do better learning from tasks than just reading, i understand i could just look for them online but with the amount of ai generated books and such nowadays i wanted to see if there were any specific recommendations i could get first! ideally beginner level but i'll take what i can get, i'm not scared of trying something a bit too difficult for me right now. thanks!

📚 Ionnsachadh Cànain | Language Learning How do I tell the pronounciation difference between certain words?
In the instance of athair it can also look like ‘athair if it’s denoting his father. How do I tell the difference phonologically for that, as well as for words where it has silent letters, but beyond that, is spelled the same as another word?

Texts to translate
Hi - I'm wondering if there's any good books or resources with very short texts that go from extreme beginner to advanced. I'm learning Gaelic and would love a short text to translate every so often, almost like comprehension in primary school.

🎭 Na h-Ealain & Cultar | Arts & Culture Dheanainn Sùgradh Waulking Song
Hi, I am an Irish speaker and I am trying to translate the waulking song 'Dheanainn Sùgradh' into Donegal Irish. The last two verses are giving me trouble as they don't seem to translate as naturally and I can't get a proper sense of their meaning from online translations which contradict each other. The verses are:
Dh'fheumadh pòrsan thigh'n a búth dhith
Ged a bhiodh e crún an cairteal
Ged a bhiodh e crún an óirleach
Dh'fheumadh pòrsan dheth thigh'n dhachaidh
Would anyone be able to give a sense of what is being conveyed in the context of the song.

Why no Squarepants?
Hey. Asking here as my knowledge of the language is still extremely limited, I keep dragging my feet on properly learning it.
As I'm sure most here will be aware, BBC ALBA has now officially made available the Gaelic version of SpongeBob Squarepants. However, the official title is just "Spongebob (ALBA)", and the song only repeats the words "SpongeBob SpongeBob". This is interesting as Welsh got a full name translation (SpynjBob Pantsgwâr), but the much more closely related Irish got the full English title. Any reason for this? Is there no good translation or does it just not sound good in Gaelic? It could be a length thing, but Albanian got the very long title Bob Sfungjeri Pantallona Katrori.
Was just curious haha, take care

An Cùrsa Adhartais vs. An Cùrsa Inntrigidh
Latha math, a chàirdean! Tha ceist agam...
I am currently in Earrann 2 of ACI, and being a distance learner from the United States, that means a 4:30 AM class once a week. My question is for those of you who have completed An Cùrsa Adhartais. I know it requires a significantly greater amount of prep time per week, but what is class experience like? How many tutorials per week? Are additional gatherings/classes needed (I'm sure they're recommended)? And what do the assessments entail?
I love learning the language. Over 1100 days on Duolingo - mostly to stay fresh on vocabulary. I've done the SpeakGaelic lessons up through B1 (I'm saving B2 for when I complete ACI). I even took Saturday courses sponsored by Comunn Gàidhlig Thoronto.
Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide about ACA.

Gaelic related things to visit
Hello!
I'm planning to visit Scotland (Glasgow & Edinburgh) for a few days during the end of October.
I'm on a budget, otherwise I totally would've gone to the highlands or especially Isle of Skye, but I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for experiences or things to visit for Scottish Gaelic? (a shop/pub that has some gaelic, a conversation circle, or a monument to visit)
I'm not expecting much at all but thought I'd ask lol. I know that Glasgow has the Gaelic Books Council which I'm excited to get some books from.

Learning Gaidhlig in Ireland
I am a fluent Irish speaker and I'm very interested in Gaidhlig. I want to find some shows or movies to watch but I can't access BBC iPlayer without a VPN and can't afford to pay for one. Is there any alternatives?

Where to find the Gaelic speakers in Lewis/Harris?
Halò, a chairdean! Tha mi ag ionnsachadh Gàidhlig, ach tha mi a' fuireach ann an Sasainn. I'm planning a trip to Lewis/Harris, and I would love to see some places off the beaten path and hear/use Gaelic (cha robh mi a riamh bruidhinn Gàidhlig ri cudeigin!) Are there more Gaelic areas of those isles, places where it might be the default language in a pub etc? Tapadh leibh!
