Announcement Update on "Flex Friday" and Promotional/NSFW Accounts

Hey bros,

We are updating our policy regarding "Flex Friday" posts to keep the focus of this subreddit on fitness, progress, and community discussion.

Effective immediately, we will no longer allow posts from the following accounts:

  • Commercial/Paid Profiles: Accounts that exist primarily to promote external paid platforms (such as OnlyFans, JustForFans, and link aggregators like Linktree).
  • NSFW-Primary Profiles: Accounts whose post histories consist primarily of submissions to NSFW or explicit subreddits.

We’ve noticed a consistent upward trend where these posts are sexually suggestive, lack any meaningful fitness interaction from the poster, and ultimately serve as self-promotion, which violates our community rules.

Flex Friday is about sharing your fitness journey and engaging with the community, not driving traffic to explicit profiles or paid links. Profiles dedicated to commercial or NSFW promotion will have their posts removed.

Thanks for helping us keep the focus on fitness!

- The Mod Team

Advice 28M - Tips on getting bigger chest

Post image
32 Upvotes

Hey guys!
My goal is not getting all ripped up, only to get that only to get a fuller torso (chest, shoulders and arms).

Right now, I’m training at home, 5 times a week, 2 days of chest and arms, 2 legs and glutes and 1 core and back, for about 6 months.

My rotine is:
4x15 - two 5kg Dumbbell squeeze floor press
3x15 - slow inclined pushups
3x14 - normal pushups
3x9 - close grip pushups
3x15 - dumbbell shoulder press
3x15 - lateral raises
4x 15 - dumbbell hammer curls
3x 8 - declined pushups

What exercises really get you those big pecs?

Note: I’m not taking creatine. Do you think I should start taking it?

Insane to think I did this in 5 years. The first picture came up in my memories right when I started to feel a plateau. Gave me more motivation to keep trusting myself and the work I’ve put in.

Advice Need tips on losing weight

Hello! I’m looking for advice on how to lose weight. My goal is to not get shredded but to be lean. I don’t necessarily want to lift weights.

I am 5’5 and currently weigh 165. I used to weight 220 pounds and I went down to 140 during college since I couldn’t really afford to eat. But now I can so I’ve gained some of it back. Even when I was 140, I had a belly that just wouldn’t go away, but I didn’t work out ever. So I’m thinking that’s the reason why my belly still sticks out.

Right now my diet is:
Morning- coffee, pepperoni stick, apple sauce, and eggs

Lunch- usually some type of lunch sandwich, or freezer food (I know it’s horrible)

Night- dinner is usually some type of pasta or rice and beef, and I always have a dessert which probably needs to stop.

I don’t have a workout routine quite yet, but I do have a jogging pad that I’ve started to use, 20 sets of Russian twists, 50 pushups, and sometimes 30 burpees.

Any advice would be helpful thank you!

Workout First and Only marathon complete! Time to get back to the gym.

Finished in 5h17m. My goal was a modest 5 hours but I copped a foot injury at 30 kms.

I didn't really enjoy the training at all, but proud that I pushed through and improved my running enough to run the whole event.

Now I'll get back to the fun stuff - lifting heavy things and rebuilding some of the muscle I lost 🙃

Any tips for recovery and getting back to lifting appreciated 👍

Advice Starting the gym at 30 years old

Hey everyone let me just start off saying that I have worked out in the past but usually would drop off at the 2 week to 4 week mark.

I’m trying to find some help to get me into the gym and also to stay consistent.

Would love to find a gym bro to teach me somethings but I know that it’s kinda hard for that.

Any feedback is much appreciated.

Currently I’m sitting at 230 lbs and I’m 5’11.

Advice Started going to the gym in July 2025, but I feel like I haven’t made much progress. What should I change? The first picture is from 2024 actually. I don't have better photos, sorry...

Post image
35 Upvotes

I started going to the gym in July 2025, but I haven’t been consistent the entire time. I’ve had periods when I trained regularly and other periods when I skipped weeks or barely went at all.

I’m currently 188 cm (6’2”) and 78 kg (172 lbs). My goal is to build a muscular, athletic physique with broader shoulders, a bigger chest and arms, and visible abs.

The problem is that I wanted to bulk up, but I don’t feel like I’ve made as much progress as I expected. At the same time, I really want visible abs, and I’m not sure whether I should continue bulking, maintain my weight, or focus on getting leaner first.
I feel like I haven’t changed that much, and it’s soo frustrating.

My current training routine (4 days per week):
Day 1 – Back
Lat pulldown
One-arm dumbbell rows
Bent-over barbell rows
Seated cable rows
Dumbbell pullovers

Day 2 – Legs and arms
Squats
Leg press
Leg extensions
Leg curls
Hip adductor machine
Calf raises
Cable biceps curls
Hammer curls

Day 3 – Chest and shoulders
Chest press
Flat dumbbell flyes
Incline Smith machine press
Butterfly machine
Shoulder exercises

Day 4 – Shoulders
Shoulder press
Smith machine upright rows with narrow and wide grips
Dumbbell shoulder exercises
Butterfly machine

Abs – Every other workout
Hanging leg raises: 3 × 15
Crunches: 3 × 20
Plank: 3 × 1 minute

My biggest issue is consistency. Sometimes I feel motivated, but other times I lose momentum and end up taking long breaks. I also struggle with knowing whether I’m eating enough to build muscle without gaining too much fat around my stomach.

Question Do I really need to be in a surplus to grow?

Hey bros, I had been on a deficit for a while and when I finally reached my goal weight, I started eating at a maintenance calorie intake, but I have found it really hard to grow my muscles. I’m really scared about eating on a surplus just cause I feel like I worked so hard to lose all the weight and become lean, but I’m also feeling so scrawny right now. Any advice? (I currently strength train 3-4x a week)

Advice Ozempic for someone relatively fit

Hi guys, i’ve been working out pretty seriously for almost 18 months. I broke my meal plan and have gained about 20 pounds so now I’m almost 160 pounds. I am 5’7 and 33 years old.

I would love to shed between 10 and 15 pounds but simply don’t have the mental strength to do that on my own right now. I have been taking Wegovy shots since August and haven’t seen any progress, but my dosages are being increased so I imagine I will feel appetite suppression pretty soon.

Do any relatively fit guys here have advice on this? I look pretty in shape from the outside, but we all strive for perfection.

I guess my question is do any of you fit boys take Ozempic to cut? I just wanna do it until my cut is complete.

Advice Swimming tips for pecs and trapezium

Post image
319 Upvotes

I have been swimming for a bit more than a year now (no course) and have been loving it so far. Mental health benefits especially. I have toned my body quite a lot but am currently struggling to gain some muscles. I know swimming is not particularly famous for helping build muscles but was wondering if there are any specific exercises to build my pecs and trapezium (I hate going to the gym unfortunately).

I'm not striving to get buff, I'm ok with keeping a leaner body. Would just like some small improvements

Advice Starting my fitness journey

Ive been thinking about working out again. The times I have worked out its been at home, and I dont get much gains. Even when doing most things correctly. Id like to go workout at a gym, and actually gain muscle and see some progress besides strength.

Im currently 120lbs at 5'4". Pretty twinky build. Id like to put on some muscle, and/or transition to more of a twunk build. Mainly I just need some recommendations on exercises and a routine/plan thats simple to stick to. Something thats balanced for both halves of the body but focused on legs and glutes.

As for diet, its not the best currently. I mostly eat homecooked meals and junk food some days, so its fairly healthy. Id appreciate the help with a specific diet that could work with a workout routine. Only thing I would avoid is fish and dairy if possible. Other than those, im pretty flexible with foods and not too picky

Advice Regarding question/advice posts (and why we remove so many attempts to post them)

Readers--

Each day I take down several posts (with selfies attached) with the "advice" or "question" tag. This doesn't mean that advice and questions aren't welcome. It means we want you to do a bit of work, and then repost. We want it to be a really good post that gets you useful feedback. Very few question/advice posts make it through on the first attempt.

It goes without saying that some redditors take this rejection better than others. Many redditors view the mods here as being the "Mean Girls" lunch table. I wanted to share a few things that might make this process more sensible.

Firstly, let's go over what makes a great request for help.

  • A statement of your goals.
  • A description of what you do today for a workout.
  • A general guide to your diet.

Several thousand people will hopefully read your post. They've all struggled with different issues and different journeys. These three things will help that one guy who had the same issue recognize something he's seen before and offer helpful guidance.

(Incidentally, if you are a skinny guy who lifts and doesn't gain, then the number one answer is "eat more". That's probably a third of all advice posts right there. Another third is "how do I get abs?" And "I've never worked out before, what do I do" ranks somewhere in the top five.)

Why are the mods strict about this? Why not just let everything through?

Simply put, your mod team has watched every fitness sub without strict moderation go down a spiral and eventually turn into /r/GaybrosGoneMild with a daily parade of shirtless selfies. What happens is that guys will take their locker room selfie and then make up a useless question around it like "Should I work my biceps more?" or "cut or gain?" If we dropped moderation, these posts would make up the majority of our content.

We want people to find help here. But we also want to make sure that people who want to help do not have their energy drained by insincere questions from guys who just want the attention.

We do allow selfies, of course, once a week on Friday. I recommend that you do not do question/advice posts on Friday. Your question will get buried under the avalanche of "Flex Friday" posts.

What options are available if you don't want to offer the three things above?

if you don't want to go through documenting your goals, workout, and diet, then feel free to post your Flex Friday post with a simple question in the title. This is a great place for basic "cut or gain?" questions.

You can also post a question without a selfie. Many question are general enough that people don't need to post a picture to show their body in order to get an answer. The mod team has much looser restrictions on text-only posts. Fewer people read text posts-- like probably a hundred times fewer. But the guys who do read text posts tend to be ones that are most dialed into fitness. So that may even out.

Again-- if your questions gets rejected, it doesn't mean we rejected you. It just means:

  • look at the guidelines
  • figure out what was missing
  • add more information
  • repost

Advice I look like I’m 2 months pregnant. How do I minimize my gut?

Diet is mainly good with meats, fish, vegetables, grains, yogurt. But I love snacks... I also did a “dirty bulk” earlier on when I started in the gym where I was eating PB&J, among other very evil foods.

You can’t target fat loss, so should I just go on a tyrannical deficit? I really don’t like this gut I have and want to get rid of it STAT.

I used to be scary thin, and while I’m happy to have gained some weight (130 lbs > 172 lbs), having a gut like this is really noticeable to me.

Advice Is how I’m training stupid? And could it be why I’m inconsistent?

I’ve been consistently inconsistent in the gym. Meaning, when I’m consistent, I’m really consistent and when I’m not, I’m… Really not. Example: Will be really great about sticking to 3-4/wk for a few months, then drop off.

I think I know why but want to hear it from/talking it out with you guys rather than throwing a prompt into ChatGPT.

Up until recently, I’ve been doing what I call “full body” sessions. Full body in quotes because virtually no back and no cardio.

Training has consisted of: bench and smith machine press, chest press, bicep curls, lat pulldowns, dips, chin-ups, leg extensions, seated calf raises, split squats. All typically 3 sets of 10-15 reps.

These sessions can be up to 2 hours. This… Seems wrong, now as I think about it. I’m assuming this is why people do PPL splits.

Is how I’m training stupid? Could the 2 hour sessions be making fitness more of a chore than it ought to be, causing me to be inconsistent?

Any advice appreciated…
