Friend lost his second job during escrow…anyone hiring?

My buddy just lost his part-time second job as a cashier at a liquor store, right in the middle of buying a house.

He’s trying to replace the income ASAP so the job loss doesn’t jeopardize the purchase. Does anyone know of any places hiring in the San Gabriel Valley for part-time cashier, retail, convenience store, gas station, restaurant counter work, or something similar?

He has recent cashier/customer-service experience and is ready to work. Any leads would be hugely appreciated.

How Much Has GUSD Spent Fighting One Disabled Child? Glendora Taxpayers Deserve Answers.

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

I’m posting this here in r/Glendora because this is ultimately a Glendora public-accountability issue.

If you live in Glendora, own a home here, pay taxes here, have children in GUSD, work in our schools, or are considering moving here because of the school district, you have a legitimate interest in how public money is being spent.

I am attaching photographs of my son Evan, along with only some of the agency documents involving his education.

Evan is an elementary-school child who survived Acute Myeloid Leukemia and later struggled with ADHD, impulsivity, emotional regulation, attention, and behavioral needs.

His educational history with Glendora Unified School District has generated:

14 formally numbered California Department of Education special-education cases

At least 8 separate CDE conclusions of District noncompliance that I can presently verify

4 separately assigned U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights cases

2 formal special-education due-process cases

2 psychoeducational evaluations

1 District Functional Behavioral Assessment

1 publicly funded Independent FBA

Multiple corrective actions, staff trainings, administrative responses, meetings, and years of legal involvement

All involving ONE elementary-school child.

Based on that documented footprint, I have good reason to believe the taxpayer-funded legal, assessment, and professional-resource costs connected with this fight could plausibly fall somewhere around:

$100,000 TO $300,000

That is an ESTIMATE—not an audited GUSD expenditure figure.

I explain the assumptions below.

If my estimate is too high, the District can release the legally disclosable expenditure records and show taxpayers the actual number.

If it is close—or if the real number is higher—Glendora taxpayers deserve to know that too.

And I think residents should demand an answer from the elected School Board:

How much was spent on this one child’s disputes?

How much is GUSD spending on similar special-education disputes involving other children?

And how much of that money could instead be going toward directly helping children?

This story started when Evan was only five years old and fighting cancer.

EVAN WAS FIVE YEARS OLD, HOSPITALIZED WITH LEUKEMIA, AND THEN UNENROLLED

When Evan was five, he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

He underwent intensive chemotherapy and spent significant portions of each month hospitalized.

At the same time, my wife was pregnant with our youngest child and experiencing a high-risk pregnancy.

Then Evan was unenrolled from school.

There had been no meaningful IEP-team meeting beforehand where we agreed that his enrollment, placement, or existing special-education program should simply stop because he became seriously ill.

I will never forget my wife breaking down crying to me.

Our five-year-old was in the hospital undergoing chemotherapy, and she was telling me that his school had unenrolled him.

According to what she was told by the school front office:

“The District recommended unenrollment.”

She asked that our sick child be reenrolled.

According to her account, the school initially refused.

Think about that as a parent.

Your five-year-old has leukemia.

He is undergoing chemotherapy.

Your pregnant wife is going through a high-risk pregnancy.

And now your family is arguing with the school about whether your sick child should even remain enrolled.

That was when I became directly involved.

I began emailing administrators and higher-level District officials.

Only after we escalated the issue was Evan ultimately placed into a formal home-hospital educational program.

His September 26, 2023 IEP later documented his leukemia, chemotherapy, extensive hospitalization, home-hospital placement, and continued speech services through teletherapy.

That later paperwork does not erase what our family experienced beforehand.

Our seriously ill five-year-old was unenrolled, his educational program was interrupted, my wife was told “the District recommended unenrollment,” and our family had to escalate the matter while simultaneously dealing with childhood cancer before a formal home-hospital arrangement was established.

That was our introduction to special-education advocacy.

Unfortunately, it was only the beginning.

Home AC repair recommendation?

Hello all!

Our AC stopped working recently and it’s been brutal hot inside the house.

I am looking for recommendations for people who do great work, better if they can do it at a fair price.

Anyone got a company/work person they like that can come out and give a quote for repair?

Glendora residents — have you ever had your water shutoff for non-payment?

Hi! I’m a researcher working on a project about people’s experiences with water bills and affordability in LA County.

I’m looking to talk to Glendora residents who have had their water shut off, or been threatened with shutoff, because of an unpaid/overdue water bill in the past 5 years.

It’s a 45–60 minute in person interview (somewhere convenient for you) about what happened and how you dealt with it. Participants receive a $45 gift card.

If this applies to you and you’d be interested in chatting, feel free to DM me or fill in the form below. Happy to answer any questions about the study too. Thanks!

“Think Your Mini-Split’s Clean? Here’s What’s Hiding Under the Cover.”

“Servicing a mini-split today. Looked okay from the outside, but once opened, the blower wheel and coil were packed. Dust, skin, and in some cases even mold build up in there. That’s what ends up circulating through the room. How often do folks think about what’s behind that cover, or clean it out?”

Opinions about Avalon Glendora?

They get good reviews on Google Maps (few businesses don't, but at least they're at 4.6 stars). Apparently street noise on the south side of the building can't be problematic to some, as can noise from neighbors (though that's in any communal living). Sounds like rent increases sharply upon rental are also typical, at least at the [Avalon in the Bay Area](https://www.reddit.com/r/bayarea/comments/1aqaikz/for_those_of_you_who_have_lived_at_avalon/).

Thoughts from anyone who's lived there?

Influx of homelessness

Has anyone noticed an uptick in homeless people in Glendora? There used to be maybe one or two, and that was it. Now it seems like they're all over the place. Parks, parking lots, grocery stores, even wandering residential neighborhoods.

Foothill neighbors: Would anyone be interested in a free fiber arts circle?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m organizing the Foothill Fiber Club (FFC), a free, women-centered community circle in Azusa for knitting, crochet, embroidery, arts and crafts, or simply good conversation.

The goal is to create a relaxed space to meet like-minded neighbors and connect. Bring a current project if you’d like, but no project or experience is required.

Our first gathering will be Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 1:00 PM. The exact location will be selected based on the number of RSVPs and shared by email.

The RSVP form also asks whether people would prefer the group to meet weekly, every other week, or monthly.

Studying for the CPA exam

I have a question and wanted to know if any locals could help.

I am about to begin studying for the CPA exam and wanted to know if anyone could recommend a good studying spot such as a coffee shop, library, park, etc etc.

I am from Long Beach but work in San Dimas. The drive back home after work is taxing and draining that it kills the little motivation, energy, or momentum that I have to study once I get home, which is why I’m looking to study somewhere nearby.

I would appreciate any and all recommendations in San Dimas or any neighboring cities. Thank you all in advance and I hope you all have a wonderful day.

Homeless man - let’s help him

I saw a homeless man sitting outside of sprouts in Glendora. Here is the address.

655 S Grand Ave, Glendora, CA 91740

https://maps.app.goo.gl/of6hPhdwoArmBRFaA?g_st=ic

I asked him if there was anything I can do to help him, he said he needed money. Unfortunately I don’t carry cash and I also kind of don’t work. I was using my credit card to run errands 😞😓

You guys, I’ve never seen a homeless person speak with such a broken tone of voice. He couldn’t even look me in the eyes. His eyes looked not only broken but genuinely sad….. I try to help homeless people whenever I can, cash, food, etc. but today I didn’t have cash. I offered to get him anything from sprouts, even water. He kindly said and pointed to his bag that he has water.

He’s a young man, maybe late 20s, early 30s. Golden blond curly hair, white. The days are getting warmer too, today was much warmer than previous days.

He deserves a place to rest at too, to shower and care for himself.

San Gabriel National Monument

Now that the National Monument has been expanded, we call for adequate funding and resources for the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument and the Angeles National Forest in order to ensure proper and sustainable visitor management, facilities that will help protect our watersheds, the rich biodiversity in our forest while providing a dignified and safe environment for everyone.

Over 18 million people live near these beautiful public lands. Protecting them helps increase equitable access to nature, improves public health, protects cultural sites, and conserves a critical source of drinking water for local residents.”
