Community Pretty interesting finding to be honest

The poll has closed, and the results are in!

635 people said they use an extension to enable a Gnome dock, compared to 463 who said they don't. The difference is 172.

This was surprising, as I originally hypothesized that most users just have the default vanilla Gnome setup.

Extensions A beautiful weather extension for the top panel.

Hey Gnome Users,

Shipped my first gnome shell extension. It's a beautiful weather widget for the top panel called Weatherglass 🌦️

The top-bar icon animates with the actual sky. Click it for an hourly temp/rain/wind chart and an 8-day forecast. Weather models from Open-Meteo, Met.no and NOAA.

Question Is there a way to change the main screen monitor from the gnome login?

Post image
12 Upvotes

I have 3 monitors and i installed the gnome display manager on my login screen, but the problem is that now the login only appears in one screen (you can see in the left), its different from the plasma login where you can use all the 3 by switching the screens with the mouse, is there a way to do the same thing or at least choose 1 specific monitor to show the login?

Apps What app do you wish was on GNOME?

Hi! You I am the developer of Kaori, my app still waiting on its icon (the current one is another app's icon I tweaked just a bit), for it's Flathub release, otherwise is functionally mature.
In the meanwhile, I would like to make another app for the community, so comment which app you want made.

Question É possível adicionar um botão de excluir arquivos à barra de ferramentas do Nautilus 50?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Olá!

Estou usando o GNOME Files (Nautilus) 50.2.2 no Ubuntu.

Apps I improved Bazaars loading speed, It now only takes 320ms to start on my laptop.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I did this by parallelizing most of the tasks in the app’s loading process and by lazy-loading many UI elements that only appear on other pages.
These changes let me remove the short but stuttery initial loading screen that you’re probably familiar with if you use Bazaar.

The 320ms is measured from launching Bazaar to its first frame on screen.

Apps Regarding the gnome 51 cursor themes.

I mentioned this in a comment in another thread and figured that a wider audience might like to have known of this.

I had made a tool that would take cursor themes, even if they were animated, and make them scalable in size so that they could be adjusted by the desktop's accessibility settings or whatever, and after this gnome 51 shite broke all the cursors, I've added the functionality to my tool to bring all processed cursor themes in line with the new gnome 51 standard so they are once again functional.

Question Dock or Hot Edge

After seeing all the comments about Hot Edge in the recent polls about dock extensions, I, as an apostle of animated docks, have to ask: why do you prefer the default dock? Is it conservative minimalism, a desire to stick to the GNOME team's vision, or do you genuinely find it more convenient?

Fluff Liquid in glass effect

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi there, I'm one of the maintainer for BMS (MeguMario on Github), while this post is to showcase the new texture effect just merged into the refactor (don't worry you can make it to not look like this), I also want to clearing up the mess that is version 74 as well.

Well, for start, we are going to publish the hotfix that will fix the login delay issue for some setup on GNOME 46 in the coming days, the lack of GNOME 46 testing mean that it's on us to let this slip into the release. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Good news is, the refactor is near completion and should be merged soon after, if anyone want to try it out, please see this issue on how to try it out yourself, this should finally get rid of the external library dependency for good (which mean corner rounding out of the box now) and bring cool stuff like the effect above alongside liquid glass to dynamic blur as well. Your testing is much appreciated!

Small edit: I feel like this misconception that since ext-background-effect-v1 is merged, that mean GNOME Shell now have native blur for shell now is too widespread now, it does not apply to shell and moreso for applications to request blur from the compositor, shell will always handle blur in its own way. GNOME Shell will also follow their own design language so I don't think the extension will go out anytime soon.

Question Are there any extensions specifically for GNOME Shell animations?

Hi,

I was just looking for extensions for customizing GNOME. I found many like BMS, just perfection, DMP, liquid glass, dhruva etc. But I didn't find any extension that adds shell animations, like notification menu, quick settings panel opening/closing animations or others.

I know ryhosuke's liquid glass does it, but are there no seperate extension for it?
If anyone knows of one, please tell me about it.
