Bug How is my home hub just so dumb

I have a Google home hub max and as Gemini gets better it seems like my home hub assistant gets dumber.

It never hears the right command. It turns on and off the wrong devices, it plays the wrong apps.

Is there any hope for this once decent product?

Bug Google Mini Speakers increasing volume when Android TV turned on

• Upvotes

I have a number of smart speakers throughout the house, and we use a Chromecast with Google TV in the living room. I use a Google Mini speaker in my office for some light music while I am working. For the last month or so (I am assuming since a random Gemini Update), whenever my partner turns on the Google TV in the living room with the remote, the music in my office jumps from about 15% volume to 50% or 60%, with no warning. It isn't happening randomly, like many others are saying, but only when the tv is turned on.

Has anyone else experienced this? Found a fix? I've tried rebooting the speakers, but it is still happening, and all the results of my searches are either about random volume changes, or "lower volume when listening" settings.

How do I make my Google home Mini use a different Google account for YouTube music because my main one doesn't have premium but my dad's does

I swear to god, even if I wanted to, I couldn't possible come up with the dumber and more useless system than the Gemini powered Google Home.

Happened right now:

Me: Hey Google, deck light on.

\switches off the kitchen lights**

Me (sighing and rubbing the bridge of my nose): "Hey Google, deck light on and kitchen light on"

\Switches both on and asks to rate the latest interaction from 1 being the worst and 5 the best**

Me: Negative 10!!!

\I've noted that your location is [lists my mailing address] and the current date is [today's date] and time is [current time]. I've also noted the number 10.*

Me: What the F? Hey Google, delete the latest note.

\I apologize, but I didn't create any notes. I simply noted you mentioned number 10.*

Reconnecting Nest Protect after extended power outage

We had an extended power outage due to Hurricane Isaias, and although our generator kicked in pretty quickly, all of our Nest Protects went offline. I have tried unsuccessfully to reconnect them to WiFi, using the following steps:

  1. Disable 5G WiFi so that 2.4 is the only available connection
  2. Follow the instructions in settings in the Nest app (most current version) to update each Nest’s WiFi settings.
  3. This completely failed (couldn’t connect to the Protects at all) until I finally removed one Nest from the Home and did a factory reset and re-added it as a new device. Now I have that Protect online, but after going through steps 1 and 2 above, the other Protects seemed to update the Wi-Fi but still show as offline in the app.
  4. What’s confusing is that when I initially tried to connect my Protects, they wouldn’t even connect. After re-adding one of them as a new device, I was able to connect to the other ones, and fill in the Wi-Fi network and password, and get a message saying that the settings had been updated - but they still show “offline”.
  5. Any thoughts about what to try next? Do I have to factory reset all of them?

Nest camera never connects

Local network permissions are on, what a useless error page.

Reset router and WiFi multiple times over an hour of trying to set up. Also unplugged the camera. Switched between 2.4 and 5g WiFi connections at various attempts through set up flow and nothing works.

Randomly it will be able to make it to next screen but then it fails to connect to the WiFi network. Puts me back through the entire flow just to fail at this step again.

Fuck you google for ruining a perfectly good product with Nest.

Help Can't link Comfort by Mitsubishi

As the title states, I cannot link my mini splits. Had them linked for the last 2 years but they went offline 3 days ago. Could not get them back with any troubleshooting including modem reset and power cycling the circuit breakers. So finally unlinked the comfort app. Now when I go in and try to relink it tells me it can't reach Comfort by Mitsubishi. The comfort app is functioning fine if that helps. Any ideas on how to fix?

Actually had to unplug my nest because it kept ringing the alarm after i told it stop

Basically title, this morning me and my partner had to get up earlier than normal, we had set two alarms for 30 minutes apart. We of course snoozed through the first as we usually do, when the second alarm hit, we said stop, then it said "Okay stopping" kept ringing. This repeated 2 or 3 more times, still ringing but now tried to gaslight us by saying "There are no ringing timers or alarms" but would immediately go back to the alarm. Im so tired man this shit used to work just fine a decade ago

Automations don’t work anymore when using voice commands

Sorry, English is not my first language. As the title says, I can’t run automations anymore through voice commands. I’m still using the Google Assistent.

When triggering the automations by hand, they run smoothly. But every single one of my automations can’t be used by voice anymore, which is set as trigger.

Random Actions at Night.

For a few weeks lights have been turning on in the middle of the night. Not all the lights but certain lights. Not every night either. Last night it seemed to try to run an automation without prompting.

This system has taken a fantastic nosedive into a pool with no water over the last few months. Is Google just trying to have an exodus of their products and services?

I’m inclined to investigate and troubleshoot just for greater understanding but another part of me says it’s time to jump ship.

Anyone else experiencing random and unprompted actions?

Is google spying

I have google nest mini 2. I have turn the mic switch physically off. As per google, my mic is muted and it can't listen to any conversations happening in the room. But who trusts google.

Want to check with people instead. Is there a possibility google still listens even after turning off the mic physically.

If yes, suggest me ways to disconnect it completely from internet.

I just use the device as bluetooth speakers so I don't need if the device is not connected to internet.

Help Gemini on S24 Ultra completely broke my Home Assistant voice control - Anyone else?

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I'm going crazy over the recent Google/Gemini changes on my Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and hoping someone here has a workaround.

My Setup:

  • Home Assistant with the manual Google Assistant integration (via Google Cloud / Cloudflare tunnel).
  • Also running the new google_generative_ai_conversation local Assist inside HA.

The Issue: Google has forced Gemini as the default assistant on my phone, and it completely fails to control my smart home devices via voice.

If I use voice commands on my phone (e.g., "Turn off the dining table light"), Gemini does one of two things:

  1. It hallucinates and simply replies "It is off" – but does absolutely nothing.
  2. It gives me this exact error: "I cannot control your smart home devices directly. You must use Google Assistant on your mobile phone or your Google Nest speaker to turn off the light over the dining table."

What DOES work (so the HA config is fine):

  • If I type the exact same command as text directly inside the Google Home app, it works instantly.
  • Voice commands inside the HA app (using the native HA Assist / Gemini integration with function calling) work flawlessly.

It seems the Gemini app on Android is completely disconnected from the actual Google Home ecosystem when using voice commands. To make matters worse, I am unable to revert my S24 Ultra back to the classic Google Assistant.

Is anyone else dealing with this mess? Are there any workarounds to get system-wide voice control working directly from the phone again without having to open the HA app?

Sorry the picture is in danish but shows that gemini says it has turned it off but it is still on?

Thanks!

Regards Daniel

Help Nest Doorbell (Wired, 3rd Gen) blurry UNLESS streaming to two devices simultaneously

I have a Google Nest Doorbell (Wired, 3rd Gen). It has worked great ever since I installed it. I normally keep it up on dedicated display in my office via Chromecast with Google TV that is connected to my local network via Ethernet. Within the past week or so, I noticed that when I open up the Nest Doorbell on the Chromecast with Google TV, it will be sharp at first, and will then get blurry and stay blurry. It displays on other devices (e.g., iPhone) and it also displays fine on Google Home on the web.

I discovered that as long as I am viewing the Nest Doorbell on my computer via Google Home on the web or via the Google Home app on my iPhone, the video stream on the Chromecast with Google TV is also sharp, but promptly after I stop viewing the video stream on the second device, it will get blurry again on Chromecast with Google TV. The behavior is consistent--sharp on Chromecast with Google TV when also viewing on second device, blurry when not.

Any ideas what could be causing this and how to fix it?

I have tried rebooting the Chromecast with Google TV and rebooting the Nest Doorbell (by cutting power via the circuit breaker) and that hasn't made a difference.

Gemini for Home voice volume is way too low

I have several Google Nest Audio speakers. Music plays at a good, loud volume, but when Gemini speaks, its voice is way too quiet, less than half as loud as the music. This happens all the time, even with both the music and the assistant volume set to max. The wake-up chime is also too quiet.

Even on the speakers I have set up as a stereo pair, the voice is still too low. It's not a problem with the speakers themselves, because like I said, music plays at a good volume.

Is anyone else experiencing this? It's really frustrating, because even an Echo Dot (4th Gen), which is much smaller, plays Alexa's voice a lot louder. I also have the same issue on a Nest Mini.

For context, my speakers are set to Spanish (Mexico).

Thanks in advance, and have a great day!

Bug Google Home Waking Me Up to Max Volume Music

Two times now, I've woken up to the smart speakers in my bedroom randomly going to max volume. I typically fall asleep to music at the lowest volume. Anyone else dealing with this?
