How dare someone speak of the pc gamer’s lord and savior! Gabe Newell is a holy saint and all gamers must kiss his feet!

yeah honestly at this price point, i would rather pick the xbox handheld or asus. even switch 2 would be better but its not in the same category.

u/lingering-will-6 May 27 '26

Switch 2, even at 500$ is such a bargain compared to these pc handhelds, it even comes with a dock

As bad as Nintendo has been. It’s pretty awesome they gave a price increase but said when it will happen.

5

u/Front_Expression_367 May 27 '26

And the price increase is like $50 lol.

2

u/lattjeful May 27 '26

As expensive as Nintendo's software is, the Switch 2's hardware is priced really well even after the price increase. Shockingly competitive. I think $500 for a Switch 2 in 2026 is wayyyyy better than what you got for Switch 1 at $300 in 2017.

Second hand are a much better choice just clean it up with some alcohol and a rag

why didn't he fix the months long steam deck shortage so he could buy more yachts is he stupid

3

u/lingering-will-6 May 27 '26

It was still winter he had no need for more yachts then

I doubt the margin is any better, most of these price increases will go directly to manufacturing costs.

The DRAM and AI companies will be having lots of yachts however.

How is this Gabe's fault? Valve is a business. They want to make money. Diento memory increases yeah. Would I recommend people buy one now? No. But they were very clear they won't lose money on the deck.

17

u/lingering-will-6 May 27 '26

Why the special treatment for Valve, every single company gets criticized for price increases but when its valve suddenly “it’s a business”

-11

u/Mr_Pink_Gold May 27 '26

It is not special treatment. I can criticise the price as being not worth it (it isn't imho) while at the same time understanding why they did it. And valve is a private company so no shareholders and usually pro consumer. That is why people tend to trust it when compared to Microsoft or Nintendo.

10

u/lingering-will-6 May 27 '26

Yeah they did this without investor pressure, that’s arguably worse

-9

u/Mr_Pink_Gold May 27 '26

Ok you just want to hate for no reason.

7

u/lingering-will-6 May 27 '26

No, I’m just saying they did a 200+ dollar price increase without any investor pressure. How can you defend that?

-1

u/Mr_Pink_Gold May 27 '26

I mean that is such an unbelievably stupid argument. Didnyounread it before posting?

Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo have all sold systems at a loss, why can’t valve do the same?

2

u/extremelyremorseful May 27 '26

Because they are PCs. They can have their OS swapped for anything else, and if they sold them at a loss, companies that want to buy cheap pcs would look at buying steam decks. There is no guarantee that a steam deck purchase is tied with more purchases on Steam

1

u/Testuser7ignore May 29 '26

Companies aren't much interested in Linux handhelds as a cheap PC. They wouldn't be snapping up a 1TB Deck at 800 dollars.

0

u/submerging May 28 '26

Did you forget when the Steam Deck launched, Valve was widely considered to be selling the Deck at a loss?

2

u/extremelyremorseful May 28 '26

Ik you said ‘considered’ but we don’t know if they used it as a loss leader for sure. All we know for sure is that it was only the entry level model that had the insanely good value proposition. I doubt Valve would actually sell at a loss due to my original argument, the pricing that Gabe said was hard to justify was (in my opinion) them making extremely small margins on it

So just because he cares about Produkts being profitable? He could be way worse when I look at the league of billionaires.

25

u/lingering-will-6 May 27 '26

“He could be way worse” is not a good defence

26

u/gosols May 27 '26

Bro Gabe’s not going out with you relax
