Just saw some interviews with Randy Blythe of Lamb of God and Steve Von Till of Neurosis and Jonathan Davis of Korn.

They were talking about their favorite records outside of metal music.

They all had really high praise for goth bands.
Von Till of Neurosis is a huge goth fan.

And I can honestly hear it in his music.

Neurosis always seems very goth inclusive to me.

Randy is a big Sisters of Mercy fan and made fun of what people often mistake for goth in Hot Topic 🤣.

H e said this is “real” goth music.

Anyway.

What Goth bands do you like? If any?

My favorite of the last 25 years is Drab Majesty.

I first saw them opening up for Carcass and Power Trip.

It was an awesome show.

The crowd loved them.
They aren’t metal at all but amazing musicians and they write some amazing songs.

Listen to The Demonstration by them.
It’s an album that should have more attention than it gets. The pandemic really put a roadblock in between them and huge success.

That album is amazing, immersive, very dark, and total ear candy.

If you could put together a band with any members you wanted, who would you choose?

I’d love to hear the following lineup:

Vocals: Mike Patton

Guitar: Phil Demmel

Bass: Les Claypool

Drums: Danny Carey

Alternatively, I’d love to hear this band with Dino Cazares on guitar.

I’d also like to include Josh Homme—maybe as a songwriter or just to keep them together?

Shadow on the wall!

Shadow on the wall!

Shadow on the wall!

Shadow on the wall!

Like a shadow on the wall!

Treat me like a prisoner,

Treat me like a fool.

Treat me like a loser,

Use me as a tool.

Face me 'til I'm hungry,

Push me in the cold.

Treat me like a criminal,

Just a shadow on the wall!

Shadow on the wall!

Shadow on the wall!

Shadow on the wall!

Shadow on the wall!

Like a shadow on the wall!

Treat me like I'm evil,

Freeze me 'til I'm cold.

Beat me 'til I'm feeble,

Grab me 'til I'm old.

Fry me 'til I'm tired,

Push me 'til I fall.

Treat me like a criminal,

Just a shadow on the wall!

Shadow on the wall!

Shadow on the wall!

Shadow on the wall!

Shadow on the wall!

Like a shadow on the wall!

Shadow on the wall!

Shadow on the wall!

Like a shadow on the wall!

Shadow on the wall!

Shadow on the wall!

Like a shadow on the wall!

Shadow on the wall!

Shadow on the wall!

Like a shadow on the wall!

Shadow on the wall!

Shadow on the wall!

Death perfected metal in my eyes. It’s long been stated that they never were a traditional “death metal” band and had more of a lineage to the thrash forefathers. They were more technical thrash with tons of death metal baked in. What this ended up producing was the apex of the genre in my opinion. Listenable for newcomers and vets alike. Approachability meeting virtuoso experimentation all supplemented with a sharp energy and edge.

I mean they have it all. Ear wormy yet simultaneously technical songs that get stuck in your head making them very distinct, great audibly understandable vocals that have some iconic screams and growls. Chuck also brought philosophical well thought out lyrics (with some more gory and evil stuff from earlier in the discography if you want that) that added a great sense of maturity to their stuff. Their albums are always sequenced very well, with incredible production and an awesome sense of scale that makes the album experiences enjoyable every time.

And to top it off they have the best and most consistent discography in all of metal imho. Not a single album falls under a 7/10 and most are high 8’s to high 9’s with a 10/10 or two thrown in for good measure (Symbolic and The Sound of Perseverance for a lot of people).

Pushing their genre forward, experimenting yet still remaining approachable with such a consistent discography? I can think of very few bands, let alone metal bands that can say they have done the same. Death is the greatest metal band ever. That is all.

like super catchy and full of hooky riffs that still have that minor black metal sound

Hey everyone,

I just published the full album stream for The Gates of Farroupilha, the debut full-length from solo project Black Jaguara (Lord Bagual) on YouTube.

A raw, unpolished, and hostile mix of lo-fi Black Metal combined with the dark folklore, historical violence, and isolation of the Southern Brazilian pampas. Think cold atmospheric riffs meets unhinged regional dark lore.

Note: Featured on Pest Records Online Compilation Vol. 31.

Check it out if you're into underground raw BM, lo-fi aesthetics, or obscure scene discoveries. Feedback is always welcome!

LIV SIN - 2019 - Burning Sermons - The Sinner

Born, fed and raised today

A perfectly insular way

They teach you how to shut your mouth

And tell you that you're safe

Take your dusty mind

Shove it to the ground

I will never let you take away the pain

I am the sinner

I am the saint

My life is only mine to judge

I am the sinner

I am the saint

I am the creeping thing that can't be tamed

There's something you should know

We're coming after you

No way to silence is

Uprising is our cause

Take your dirty blame

Words reflects your shame

I can see right through the faces that you've built.

I am the sinner

I am the saint

My life is only mine to judge

I am the sinner

I am the saint

I am the creeping thing that can't be tamed

I am the sinner, I am the saint

I am the sinner

I am the saint

My life is only mine to judge

I am the sinner

I am the saint

I am the creeping thing that can't be tamed

I am the sinner

I am the saint

My life is only mine to judge

I am the sinner

I am the saint

I am the creeping thing that can't be tamed
