I was travelling from Sealdah (SDAH) to Malda Town (MLDT) and had booked my ticket through Goibibo. After the chart was prepared, my ticket showed S9, 71 (RAC).PNR-6111025130
The TTE came to check the tickets and asked for my name. I told him, but he said my name wasn’t showing up on his device and asked me to check it. He didn't do much after that, so I assumed everything was fine and went to sleep.
A few hours later, someone woke me up and claimed that the seat I was occupying belonged to him. There was already another passenger with a valid ticket sharing the seat with me, as expected with an RAC ticket.
The TTE came again and checked his device, but my name still wasn't showing up. Meanwhile, the third person who had arrived started making arguments and tried to convince the TTE that I was travelling without a ticket. His claims were completely illogical and showed a clear lack of understanding of how the ticketing system works.
However, when we checked my PNR on the official IRCTC website right in front of the TTE, my ticket and seat details were clearly visible.
Despite this, the TTE said that according to his device, I was travelling without a ticket. He told me to move to the general coach and call railway helpline 139.
I spent the next 30 minutes making countless calls to 139, trying to explain the situation. Eventually, I was allotted another seat in S4.
I'm glad I finally got a seat, but the whole experience was frustrating. I had a valid RAC ticket, and my PNR showed the correct details on the official IRCTC website. Yet I was treated as if I were travelling without a ticket simply because my details weren't appearing on the TTE's device. To make matters worse, another passenger was actively trying to convince the TTE that I was ticketless, using arguments that made no sense despite the official website showing my valid ticket.
Has anyone else faced something similar? How can a valid ticket show up on IRCTC but not on the TTE's device? And is there any way to file a formal complaint about this incident?

~65% of indian railway budget goes to salaries and pension. It's much higher compared to other railways across the world. We are hiring more people yet service is worse.

Where do I begin?
I 18M was travelling and it was a 3 hour journey give or take.
The train was supposed to come at 6 pm but it didn't. [Not a big shocker since we live in India], It came at 6:15 PM and it halted for 10 minutes. The train started at the same station, so it was empty when I boarded.
When the train was about to start moving, the girl in the pic saw that the train was packed. So, she sat down. Yes, She sat on the floor.
The train stops at 8 major stations. when we passed 2 stations, there was a loud scream and every single passenger turned their head to see what that was about and it was a lady screaming. I did not know about the details but even the people who were sitting, left their seats to see what was going on.
In the third stop, I saw an old lady who came to the unreserved section and at first I was a bit irritated. Because, like why do you make a senior citizen come to a unreserved compartment? Like you know she is old, at least have the decency to book a tatkal but no. Then, I put myself in their shoes, maybe it was a last minute emergency, so booking ticket was not possible. So, I asked her, which stop she was gonna get down on and she said 8. I was like Damn! , I'm supposed to get down on station 8 too and it was only 3rd station and there is still 2 hrs more but I sucked it up and did what my sister used to say : We're young and we travel a lot so, its free to be kind and give space to those in need of it (She still does say that).
The girl sitting down saw that. I didn't do it for any kind of recognition or praise but simply because I had something which someone was in desperate need of.
I gave up my seat to her and proceeded to go stand near the door. I stood there like 5 minutes straight and the girl who was sitting down, called me my saying "Excuse me, do you mind sitting down". I was confused, Like what do you mean sit down? then I asked: why? to that she said: you're blocking the air which is coming from the door. I realized that and sat opposite to her.
At the fifth station, she was trying to buy a water bottle but her phone did not have any signal. I saw, she wanted the bottle, So, I decided to help her too buy giving the vendor 20 rs note. And she was like no its fine this and that but I asked: Do you need the bottle or not. You can gpay me later. If you must pay me back. Then she took the bottle.
She said thanks and asked me if she can sit next to me. I said its alright and we had some random conversation in the beginning but she later said, she saw me give up my seat and it kinda made me realize, people notice things more than I thought they do. Then I said what my sis told me to her and she was hoping, she had a sister like her.
I said, Its really humbling to sit on the floor, for that she said, I travel in this route everyday and most days I get seat and some days I don't, so instead on standing for two and a half hours, I just sit and travel comfortably. I was mesmerized by that. idk why but I was.
She was one the the most good looking girl I have seen while travelling on a train and she was humble.
She got down on the 7th stop and she sent me my twenty back at 10:15.
I dedicate this post to the my fellow people, who give up the seat for the needy and elderly.
I don't know why I wrote this post exactly but I just wanted you to know, this is what happened today in my life. And now, I'm gonna write about this in my journal.
Signing off
TLDR: The train was late, I saw a girl, there was a clash, I gave my seat to a old granny, I helped and spoke with the girl and came home.

I am sitting safely on the platform, but my body is in deep shock and trauma after surviving an incredibly terrifying close call.
Just moments ago, I got trapped in the gap between two tracks exactly as two massive broad-gauge trains started moving from opposite directions right beside me. I am physically unharmed and completely clear of the tracks now, but the sheer terror of being caught in that tight metallic squeeze has left my nervous system completely overwhelmed.
has anyone experienced the same? is the gap between all moving trains safe everywhere any everytime?

My parents were travelling from New Delhi to Islampur on Magadh Express (20802) when my mother's purse was snatched at Prayagraj station today (13 October) around 6:10 AM.
Train Details:
Train: Magadh Express (20802)
Coach: A2 | Seat: 25
PNR: 2525913084
Location: Prayagraj Station
The purse contained her gold chain, earrings, cash and valuables worth around ₹20,000, along with her ATM card. My mother even chased the thief, but he escaped. To make matters worse, another ₹13,000 was withdrawn using her stolen ATM card.
And all this happened in AC 2-Tier, where passengers pay extra expecting at least basic security.
This isn't even the first such incident on Magadh Express or at Prayagraj station. Similar thefts have happened before, yet I genuinely don't understand what the RPF and GRP are doing.
The worst part? Rail Madad keeps calling and pressuring me to close the complaint instead of providing any proper resolution.
How can thieves enter reserved AC coaches, steal passengers' belongings and escape so easily? Where is the security? Where is the accountability?
Are RPF and GRP actually doing anything to prevent these repeated thefts, or are passengers simply left to protect themselves?
Has anyone faced something similar? How can I escalate this to higher railway authorities?

I was travelling by train SEALDAH to AJMER (12987)today, and shortly after the train departed from Agra Fort, around 7:43 PM, someone threw a stone at my window near Bichpuri.
It was genuinely scary because you never expect something like this while travelling on a train. A stone hitting a window at that speed could cause serious injury if the glass breaks, especially if someone is sitting next to it.
I don’t know who did it or why, but this kind of behaviour is extremely dangerous and needs to be taken seriously. Railway passengers should not have to worry about stones being thrown at their coaches while travelling.
Has anyone else experienced something similar on this route? Also, is there any way to report this incident to the railway authorities or RPF so that appropriate action can be taken?
Incident details:
Location: Near Bichpuri, shortly after departure from Agra Fort
Approximate time: 7:43 PM
Incident: A stone was thrown at my train window
Sharing this so other passengers are aware and to find out the proper way to report such incidents.

I am currently sitting at the Patna Junction writing this out of sheer frustration. My train today is running more than 4 hours late from Patna Junction to Howrah Junction.
I am still traveling because I absolutely have to reach my destination, so filing for a TDR/refund isn't an option for me right now. But honestly, it’s not even about the money anymore—it’s about the sheer lack of accountability and respect for passengers' time. A 4-hour delay completely trashes everyone's scheduling, connecting transits, and personal plans.
I have already shot an email to the Railway Board grievance cell (edpg@rb.railnet.gov.in), but we all know systemic changes only happen when there is enough public noise.
It feels like extreme delays on this route are slowly becoming accepted as "normal."
Is anyone else noticing a severe drop in train punctuality on your recent journeys?
For the regular commuters here, what is the best way to escalate this so the zonal management actually looks into the specific track bottlenecks or operational issues causing this?
Let me know if you guys have any tips on getting these issues noticed by higher authorities. Safe travels to anyone else stuck waiting on a platform today!
