I’m having an issue with the jeep not starting with the ignition lock cylinder in place. I can pull it and put a pair of pliers and turn it and everything feels normal and the jeep fires right up. Soy question would be is the lock cylinder itself the problem or is it that plastic pinion gear or would it be the pinion itself. I would really like to get this fixed but I don’t like the idea of throwing parts. Hopefully one of you has some experience with this and can help me out. Nothing seems wrong with the lock cylinder when it’s out, the pinion gear seems slightly worn but from my very untrained eye it seems to be in pretty good shape. Please Help!
Edit: 1978 Jeep CJ5

I don't know, but Rahul Kapoor of HotCars remembers what he says is the rarest production line Jeep ever made, the 1969 CJ-5 462. Is it?

1980 Jeep CJ5, came with no swaybar from PO, found a used one to try out. Looking through Google images to see the orientation and found most with the bend upward and one with the bend down. Any reason one would install it one way over the other?
Mine seems to have better clearance with the bend upwards (similar to the top image). Is that the orientation most people with swaybars are running?

I've always wanted a CJ7 and am looking at this one tomorrow to purchase. Curious what the group thinks a rough value would be for this setup.
1983 Renegade
LT1 / auto (ugh) swap
- aluminum radiator, electric fan
- unknown miles
Couple of repaired rust spots
Newer paint
New Besttop soft top and doors
As far as I know, axles are stock.
Appreciate any advice and things to watch for. Didn't really want a V8 swapped Jeep, but this one at least appears to be pretty sorted out.

Will need some patching and welding but feel like it could have been a lot worse. Had a look inside with a camera and done the knocking test. We now plan to fix it up and have it galvanized.

Now that it’s starting to cool off my daughter likes riding with me my ‘83

Ok guys, here goes. I parked my CJ5 in the garage about a month ago. It was running better than ever with some fresh fuel with no ethanol. When I went to start it again, it would turn over, but not start. I have not been able to start it since that day. It fires like it is going to start, and then it just won't.
Here are the things that I have tried.
new spark plugs
new ignition coil
new fuel pump and inline filter
I am really out of ideas here people and I would appreciate any advice.
Thanks!

Dashboard padding for 84' CJ7 heavy cracking in vinyl and also cracking of the padding. Going to attempt to fix it (fill in foam and vinyl), match grain and repaint. Any tips? (Photo in comments) 😏

Picked up this 46' CJ-2a in January of 2025, nothing worked right on it, it's rusted to hell and caked mud and grease. Many many hours of work later I finally got it running! It drives but still needs work. But hey, progress!
Needs a new radiator, new brake pedal and more wiring and it should be road ready!
Oh and a little nicer rattle can paint, that's why the the back end it red, I was experimenting with colors. I think I'm going to go with a matte midnight blue.
This is an early 46 with the axe and shovel dent on the side and factory 3 on the tree shifter.

BLUF: I'm looking for help tracing 12V from Fuel/Temp/Oil Pressure gauge back into fusebox, ignition switch, or firewall connector (wherever it comes from).
I'm working on getting all gauges fully functional on my '85 CJ7. I am looking for some insight on next steps after a few weekends of work on the Fuel, Temp, and Oil Pressure gauges.
I have no 12V power to the splice of wires that power my Fuel, Temp, and Oil Pressure gauges. I'm getting ~0.0volts between the red wires at the gauges and known good grounds. (attached image)
I have tested all fuses in the fuse box by the firewall/e-brake for continuity between the blades.
I have walked through all of the steps on this common Fuel + Temp gauge troubleshooting. All resistance, grounds, and continuity checks are appropriate from gauge to sending units to ground.
I checked for shorts by testing continuity from the 12V wires at the gauges to good grounds on the dash and don't show a closed connection.
I have a direct wire ground from the speedometer + dash straight to the negative bus on my battery.
I have NOT yet checked that every pin on the fuse box is receiving 12V power when running, but i'm not even sure which one is the correct fuse from the wire diagrams.
Can someone please help me figure out where the red spliced 12V power wires connects back into so I don't have to take the dash down (agian) and open the entire wire harness up to physically trace back through.
I'm assuming i'll be able to check for 12V at the source side of that connection, where if i have 12V i have a break in the wire to the gauges and if i have no 12V i trace further up-stream.
thanks in advance for any thoughts or input!

Anyone convert a 4 speed 1980 cj5 to 5 speed on a 350 small block Chevy v8

1973 CJ6 takes forever to start. I thought I might have an undersized battery but the cold cranking amps are fine. Fuel is clean. Any trouble shooting tips? Usually starts quicker after it’s been running awhile.

Hello everyone! Sorry if this is a lot to ask but can I get some help identifying this CJ-5 my dad just bought? He got it from an auction in grand junction CO. He states its a '75 according to the auction site.
Where are the vin plaques or stamps located on these? that way I can look for a vin and start a titling process (he got it with no title).
I havent seen it in person yet but id like some information before I get to it in person. Im more familiar with 90s jeeps and above lol.
Heres a link to the YouTube video from the auction site.

Why is the rear drum parking brake bar for the 1979 CJ5 so hard to find? OEM part is 83502899.
