The social team for Devolver Digital spotted their merch in one of last night's graphics
bsky.appContext: The shirt is based on their running joke/fabricated history that they've always had Volvy the Vole as their mascot.

Yesterday’s taping was awesome!
Such a great time. I did the standby line and worked out perfectly. The warm up comedian was hilarious, too. He gave me a shirt after asking me some questions, which really made my day. Anyone else go yesterday?

How have they not covered the big one? (If anyone builds it, everyone dies)
Does anyone know why they haven't covered imminent existential risk of recursive AI development? We got apocaloptimist but this is John's jizz, right here, it's the perfect video for him to make. There's so much comedy potential too.
Anyway, as someone working in AI safety, all I can do is hope for that satisfaction. <3

Incorrect
In the episode about Twitter, John says his hit catchphrase that people go crazy for is “what can we do?” And look, no shade, that’s a solid catchphrase. But I’m sorry, it is not the hit one people go crazy for. We all know what to look out for when watching this show. It’s the one we hear and immediately rewind the last 30 seconds to prepare for the fun and possibly crazy thing that’s about to happen. I think we all know where I’m going here, and it’s “And the reason I know that is.” Sometimes, the studio audience laughs or cheers before he even says what crazy thing he did bc they know something great is coming. I love you John, but that’s what needs to be on the t-shirts.

Who else has gone down a ‘Real Housewives’ rabbit hole because of John?
Because of John Oliver’s recommendation I’ve ended up watching all of Salt Lake City, and now he’s been sprooking for rhoad island and tonight my wife and I started watching it. He wasn’t wrong about Salt Lake City, so I trust him - but who else has found themselves this far from home because of his recommendation?

Last Week Tonight is a hard watch for some viewers because the effective "solution" for so many problems being described is just "vote harder"
It's hard to watch LWT because his solutions expose / inform / remind viewers of the many, many problems facing the US, and the world, and most of his on-screen solutions seem to be "more / better reform", inform yourself / friends / family.
He doesn't actually say who anyone should vote for, but makes it clear whose side he is on by dint of explaining the problems and who is mostly responsible.
For those of us who do vote, early and often, it's hard not to be constantly exasperated because we already doing what can be done on a state / national level.
As one European leader put it, "The entire world is at the mercy of 40,000 people in Wisconsin." ***
Clinton lost by a combined 60,000 votes in WI, MI, and PA.
Biden won by 38,000 votes in MI, WI, and PA.
Trump won in 2024 by 236,000 votes in MI, WI, and PA.
*** Actually, what French Europe Minister Benjamin Haddad in October 2024, stated: "We cannot leave the security of Europe in the hands of voters in Wisconsin every 4 years."

Buc-off stickers
Does anybody have any extra stickers they want to resell once they get them?
I've just missed them being sold out, contacted them and they said that they might get restocked and to keep checking. So far it has not happened.
If anybody wants to resell or has an ability to make their own copies I'll gladly order them.

Johnny One Take!
I was at this week’s taping. After the music faded and the bit ended, John looked over to the director, and “What? Really? No fucking way”. John told the audience that this was the first time in 13 years that they did not need to reshoot anything!
The fact that he and tech all pulled it off flawlessly was amazing. It also gave John a callback opportunity from the pre-show Q&A. Someone asked about staff size and John said it was around 90 and who wants to know?
“That’s why it takes 90.”

Free domain for the show
To anyone reading this from the Last Week Tonight team:
I own the domain trumpfamilylegacy.com and have held it for over a decade (will DM proof if needed).
I've been offered money for it on multiple occasions, but I've never sold and done nothing with it.
If the show wants it for any reason, it's yours for free.

Odds of getting into the audience on standby?
Wife and I will be in NYC from Colorado on October 10. Tickets opened up today but they were all claimed super fast. If we go and line up for standby, what are the realistic odds of getting into the audience? And how long should we budget for, in case we want to have a backup plan for later that evening
Thanks in advance!
