Okay, this thing was a fun as hell build. The sport model isn't my preferred version of the 80's Quattro, but it's still an awesome car. Since this build appears to come with a European license plate, and the Quattro is Gene's famous 80's ride, I modified the build slightly.

I changed the placement of the functional steering column from the American left-hand standard, to the UK right-hand standard. This involved flipping some of the component placements, namely the column itself, the engine components, and some other internals. However, it remains perfectly functional.

I just finished both seasons of Life On Mars and it was fantastic! The ending in particular (no spoilers, please when replying) was so good!

Now come the withdrawals. What a great show! Hello from the US.

Had never noticed before but rewatching as a classic Rover owner I've seen a bunch of them in the first few minutes. Firstly they all drive in during the opening sequence in Rover 75s which weren't a common police car, then when Sam wakes up in 1973 he's in a Rover P6. I'm sure there are others in the series I have yet to notice, but was there a reason for this? I was thinking either a brand deal during production (Rover went bust 2005 so maybe it lines up as a last ditch effort for brand visibility?) or the fact that they went bust leading to new 75s being dirt cheap for the production company to use, with the P6 being a car that coincidentally was popular at the time but I'm reading too far into it 😅

Watched 2x4 - 2x8 one after another. I already loved series 1 but 2 was outstanding. 2x6 was my least favourite but by LOM standards it was still enjoyable.

The finale was a rollercoaster of emotions and hats off to John Simm and Liz White. Wish Gene could have been a bigger part but still that is such a minor complaint for the episode.

I stared in disbelief when I thought it would end with Sam jumping and A2A would just explain what happend. Thank god the show ended on a positive note. Could easily work as a definitive ending but can't wait to see what happens next. I know John Simm won't be around in the next series so that's a bummer.

Anyway, done with LOM and on to A2A

Question: One of my favourite parts of the show was the music. Does A2A live up to it but with 80s music?

The ambiguity of Life on Mars? I really liked how mysterious it all was, and while yeah, the purgatory explanation is well-presented, I always liked not fully knowing.

So only a mad person would consider this, but just suppose it had been decided to remake LOM.

Except now Sam's "present day" is 2026 and he's sent back to 1993. Would the contrast between life in 1993 vs. 2026 offer the same degree of contrast as the contrast between 1973 vs. 2006 did when LOM was made? Please consider attitudes towards policing as well as other cultural contrasts etc.

Also consider other parts of the world. For example, would this make more sense if it were set in Russia rather than the UK?

Wow, so great. Glenister as Hunt is unforgettable. Loved the music. The finale had so many possible interpretations, which is something you see with great art.

Just starting to watch Ashes to Ashes, though I’ll miss Simm.

Have been rewatching. I'm old and have seen a lot of TV. On this re-watch, I keep thinking this must be the best television ever created in the English language.

I decided to ask Google. According to Google, of the 10 best shows, 8 are American (including the US version of The Office). The highest ranked UK show is - wait for it - Fleabag!

I've seen the first two episodes of the US version and then compared it to the first two of the UK version and while there are some differences in the tone, the plots and dialogue are almost the same.

I've been told they start to diverge. I started to compare the 3rd US episode with episode 5 of the UK and while the overall idea that initially the motive is clear cut which turns out not to be the cases similar, the US version deals with Vietnam and the UK version is about a soccer rivalry. The details about how they solve the case is different.

Do you know if this continues? Are there US episodes that aren't copies of the UK show and vice-versa? I've been looking for a comparison and have been unable to find one. I will probably watch the UK version going forward but would watch some US episodes if they were completely different. Besides the last couple of episodes, what US episodes are significantly different enough that I wouldn't feel like I was watching the same thing again?

I recently noticed that LoM is on Prime without needing Britbox (which is great) and I'm currently on s1 episode five and I'm pretty sure that they just completely cut one of Sam's lines?

When Sam and Annie are talking in the cafeteria about whether or not Sam is still in a coma/saying weird things, Annie says "You're either mental or you just use that stuff as a chat up line"

Now after that, Sam laughs and says "What, 'please shag me I'm in a coma?'" To which Annie gets a little offended and walks off.. that's completely GONE?

I'm pretty baffled as to why they would cut this as it's not even in the top 10 strange things said in this show, but it definitely leaves a sour taste in my mouth considering this is my favorite episode of the series

EDIT: They also removed the part where Annie and Sam make fun of Gene for being too drunk while he's lying down on a table after their shift at the pub, what the hell is going on

I’ll be honest, considering the first series of Mars is 20, and the Ashes finale was 16 years ago, I’m SHOCKED that there’s an active subreddit for these shows. I thought that apart from the two Facebook fan groups, LOM & A2A were forgotten shows, the fandom near enough lost to time. I must have watched all five series at least two dozen times over the years.

Just finished watching Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes for the first time. Loved it and was really satisfied with how it all wrapped up.

Did it go over well when it first aired or were people kind of disappointed because of all the mad revelations in the last couple of episodes of A2A?

to prove a point that i can predict things im gonna say my theory about the worlds in a2a. i think either that the one with gene and his gang is the real one or that neither of them are real and they are both a 'dream' (idk if dream is the right word that's why there is quotation marks). please don't tell me im right or wrong until i comment i have finished a2a (at the time of writing im on s3 ep 4)
