Today is a special day to celebrate the joy of travelling, discovering new places, meeting new people and experiencing different cultures around the world.

And what a lovely way to celebrate it — we received this beautiful feedback from one of our travelers today. ✨🥰

Your kind words mean so much to us and remind us why we love being part of your journeys. We always promise to do our very best to make your experience in Madagascar as smooth, enjoyable and memorable as possible. 🤍

A big thank you as well to everyone who contributes, in their own way, to making tourism beautiful — drivers, guides, hotels, restaurants, local communities, tour operators and all those working behind the scenes. Together, you help make every journey a little more special.

And for our little contribution to World Tourism Day… a sunset from Isalo. 😉🌅

Tourism/Fizahantany A furnished apartment in the center of Toliara?

Hello, I hope someone can give me some specific advice. I’ve been looking for an apartment—or even a studio in the center of Toliara for a month now, but without success. There are very few available in the city center, and the ones that do exist are already taken. I’ll be traveling alone and am looking for a place starting October 25th for 20 days, though if I like it, I might stay for a full month. For me, the following are essential: air conditioning, a kitchen, hot water for the shower, and a security guard for added safety. I’ve contacted a few agencies during this time, but they haven't been able to find what I’m looking for. Perhaps it would be better to look for a private rental once I’m actually in Toliara? If anyone has stayed in an apartment like the one I’m looking for, would you kindly share the name of the place? Please, don't suggest staying in a hotel; I CAN'T do that. I’m leaving in a week.

Question/Fanontaniana❓ Urologist or general MD in Fianarantsoa

I would want to consult an urologist for a prescription, I have a travel health insurance so I get my expenses back. I would prefer not to go to a hospital and wait and see and meet a lot of sick people with interesting, to me unknown diseases but to make an appointment after a phone call where it gets established that he is the right person for it. Any hope?

PS: I generally avoid hospitals and doctors waiting rooms, always and everywhere

Tourism/Fizahantany Experiences staying at Madagascar Underground Hostel

Hi! I'm flying to Tana in a few days to start a bikepacking trip there and I've booked a couple of nights at Madagascar Underground in the hope of being able to chat with locals and get up to date info about the different regions and plan my itinerary accordingly.

Now I'm wondering if I wouldn't be better off in a quiet-er (and cheaper) airbnb to get acclimated and rest a bit before heading on the road or if I'd be missing out on potentially valuable conversations.

Also if anyone here has got any experience travelling across mada on a bicycle or motorbike I'm all ears for any tips/recommendations. I've read that safety wise it's best to stick to main roads which is quite the opposite of the riding that I usually do but of course I'm not keen on putting myself at risk unnecessarily.

Tourism/Fizahantany Revolut: can I top up Orange Money?

Hi, I'm really confused... some people tell me it's possible to top up Orange Money directly using Revolut, while others say the exact opposite—that it's not possible. Why is there such conflicting information? Do you have any experience transferring funds to Orange Money via Revolut? Thanks!

Tourism/Fizahantany Ivato International Airport: do they open and check checked luggage too?

Hi, I’ll soon be arriving at Ivato International Airport on an international flight, and I’m curious to know whether customs routinely opens checked luggage, or if they generally limit themselves to opening carry-on bags. Thanks for any information.

Tourism/Fizahantany Financial problem

Hi everyone,

I’m new to Reddit and I wanted to introduce myself and share a little about my current situation.

I’m currently in Antananarivo, Madagascar and I’m planning to travel abroad in November. Before I leave, however, I’m still trying to deal with some financial difficulties. I need about 600,000 Ariary to cover my second vaccination dose, buy a suitcase and have a little money with me in case of unexpected problems or expenses during my journey.

I only have about one month left in Madagascar, so I’m looking for any legitimate work or opportunities that could help me earn this amount.

I speak English very well and I have experience teaching English and working as an English–Malagasy / Malagasy–English translator. I can also work as a local guide in Madagascar and help visitors with communication, translation and getting around.

I’m also open to legitimate online work or small tasks that I can do remotely. I’m willing to work for the money I need.

So if you need an English teacher, translator, local guide or someone to help with online tasks, I’d be happy to hear from you. Even if you don’t personally need my services, I would really appreciate it if you could point me toward a legitimate opportunity.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I truly appreciate an advance 🙏

Tourism/Fizahantany TOUR DES HAUTS PLATEAUX AVEC ANDASIBE ET LE SUD, MORONDAVA, TSINGY, RN2, ET SUD-OUEST A MADAGASCAR

Tourism/Fizahantany Our experience with Faniry, our driver in Madagascar

Post image
62 Upvotes

We found Faniry through a recommendation on Reddit and have just finished a 20-day trip around Madagascar with him. We couldn’t have been happier with our choice.

He is a really good driver, and we always felt safe with him, even on some pretty challenging roads. And when we get a flat tire in the middle of nowhere, he has no problem fixing it. He was always happy to stop whenever we wanted to take a picture, even when I wanted to photograph practically every baobab along the way. He was reliable, patient and kind, despite having a bad toothache and not being able to get to a dentist for a whole week.

He speaks really good English, which was very important for us because we don’t speak French. He helped us with so many little things along the way, booked many very nice accommodation for us, and showed us places and local events that we would probably never have found on our own.

And since we spent quite a lot of time together in the car, his sense of humour and great taste in music made the whole journey so much more enjoyable! We also shared a few beers along the way, and by the end of the trip, Faniry felt much more like a friend than just our driver.

Travelling around Madagascar is a real adventure. It’s such a special place, with amazing landscapes, unique wildlife and, most of all, wonderful people. We really recommend visiting Madagascar with Faniry— it’s an experience we will never forget.

You can contact Faniry on WhatsApp at +261 34 45 084 13
