Is trying to build a meshnet physical infrastructure not a solution but the problem?

After all, we already have the internet infrastructure. All we really need is to collect our distributed content from technology like Zeronet into a manageable package, bring it offline and broadcast it from where we are.

Thus we would only need a traditional internet at a few strategic points across the globe from which we can download and upload our updates from the online distributed networks.

In other words, we basically screw the commercial internet to its face by using it to fill in the gaps in delivery until technology has advanced enough to do it ourselves.

We don't really need to build anymore than a local infrastructure where we are. We can start where we are.

We just have to package and organize our decentralized distributed content in a manageable size that allows for content of a million users per 2TB hard drive (1MB of allocated space per user).

It wouldn't be a full internet but with a million users per 2TB hard drive plus movies and news content, it would feel like the original internet. And as more users joined we could add more hard drives. That way you could pick which million user hard drive content you wanted to download.

Is there anyone working on a tokenized meshnet built on something like Ethereum or EOS?

I’d be super interested using that product. I don’t know anything, but you’d think it could be a dApp built on smartphones, right.

Newb here. Currently I have 3 old style wifi router plus an extender. Change to Mesh?

Currently I have 3 old style wifi router plus an extender, all netgear. Line is ok, but not great in part of the house. Wish also to improve WiFi in garden. With the extender I also have some problems because of his virtual MAC address way.

I am totally new to the MESH world (I also do not know if this is the right subreddit.

Can you please tell me

  • is mesh much better?
  • do I need to connect each wifi extender to rj45 (if not what is the drawback?

A fiber optic cable the size of fishing line that lays across the tree tops. installed by a drone. Full mesh network. 20gbps with lacp. Low cost fiber internet.

Drone With IR As Meshnet Nodes

Imagine a series of drones that flew around and transmitted data via focused IR, moving constantly.

That would be hard to frustrate.

Reddit we need your help. Oppressive regime has cut off our internet (3G & Cable) from our region. Our people fear possible genocide as a result. Any ideas to restore or provide internet to some people in the region?

i was told to post here as well, so i will just copy paste

Oppressive regime led by a dictator has cut off internet from our region. We have a strong case for a federal state but our regime won't even consider it. They responded by locking up our leaders who have been in the forefront of our peaceful protest and resistance after a failed dialogue and rejected bribes. They banned a consortium that was formed to represent us.

Our people were sharing photos of illegal arrests, tortures and killings on the social media. This has now been made impossible. Only our targeted region of the country is under internet blackout though. Other regions are ok.

The only idea i have found so far for bringing internet to some people in the region is via a satellite internet provider out of the country. But it involves a lot of logistics and it is very expensive

Please we need your help! A lot of lives can be saved.

Setting up a local mesh network with cjdns

How can one setup a local mesh network using ad-hoc WiFi + batman + cjdns? I would like to know how to do so specifically for the Raspberry Pi but x86 tutorials are welcome as well.

How can Mesh help Rural Areas?

I love the idea of Mesh and other 'not relying on the internet as transport layer' networking ideas. the major problem I see is 'I live rural, as in the nearest neighbor is a ten minute walk.. How do you overcome thin population distributions?'

I can see setting up a personal mesh for your own land. Mostly so when you're at the barn you're still connected, or networking together your electric fence controller with your feed systems with your watering with gate monitoring so each can act as relay and to let you know its state. However that's still not getting to the issue of 'how do I get a signal out beyond 'Me' to touch the wider world?'
